Because they're pros. This isn't just something solely for the fans, it's for advertizing the game, and they need to be professional about that.

How would you feel if they just kinda threw together the gameplay trailer with random shots of the devs playing the game? I find it to be much better with the epic music, the videos edited to follow it in a nice manner, the awesome voice over. It just all fits together so well. Now I don't expect this gameplay video to be as epic, but it still needs to be worked on for a long time to come out nice and professional.

Exactly this^

These guys aren't just run of the mill hacks. At the end of the day it is a professional studio with an image to uphold. Releasing a video with the crowd screaming obscenities in the background is not very professional at all. Also, it's not just a matter of, "Okay, we've finished the video so now let's post it." They probably show it to their superiors who have them go back and tweak things; take that out, put this in, change this to that and that to this. As with many companies that are owned by a larger parent company, there are company policies about confidentiality agreements detailing what information is allowed to be shown to the general public while you are working on an unfinished company project and most likely they have to go through some sort of approval process for pretty much any new information they want to release. There is always legal red tape to go through. Maybe not really a lot for a "simple" 40 minute video, but nevertheless, they probably have to get approval from a few different departments before they can launch it. As much as it looks like a very simple task to just encode a video, there is a lot more going on in the background. They are still just another business and the employees still have to adhere to their company's policies.

Todd's not just creating this video in his basemant you know! Let's give these guys a break as they will release the video when it is ready.

I know it's another branch of the entertainment industry, but to give an example of Doctor Who trailers - for each one, there's a timeslot of length, you're told what kind of thing they're after. You cut something together; then different managers give their opinions. The showrunners may also get involved with their opinions. Different execs may chip in opinions. That's a process. Then it has to be signed off by everybody. Then the rights people have to sit and watch the trailer, find out exactly which actors are in it, for how long, at what times, then they have to pay everybody due royalties. Then there's a 'monster fee' - the different writers and/or producers who invented the different monsters get paid if they are reused. So, for example, Russell T. Davies has to be paid for the ood in the latest season, despite him not working on the show. Then if somebody says 'this is too expensive' or 'this is too long', you scrap the whole thing and start again.

Am I the only one who doesn't want Todd's VO? What else can he tell us we don't know yet? Besides, I want to just hear the sounds of the game.

No... I also very strongly want to only hear in-game audio.

Are we talking about QuakeCon? If so, release of the footage was confirmed at QuakeCon.

Pete Hines (I believe it was him) asked no one to record the footage so Bethesda could release it later in "all it's glory".

Basking in the glory of Skyrim isn't arguing with each other about when a video is going to come out. It seems more insulting than anything. Why not waste time actually talking about the game, instead of talking about a video of which release date is unknown? These threads are a waste of space. No one will gain any knowledge of this, and probably no satisfaction. It's like a bunch of 6 year olds arguing in a sandbox.

This thread is pointless, you say, yet its existence got extended one post further by yourelf.
Interesting.

I think you have missed the point entirely.

These threads serve one purpose:
1. For some people to vent their frustration over Bethesda's complete inability to meet the deadlines it itself has set.
If it were not for threads like these, just how would Bethesda know of such frustration?
2. For people who disagree with group #1 to counter.

Now, regarding the usefulness of your post above...

I hope they release it on youtube first so we can actually all see it. If not then no one will be able to see it for a while.

Ha, except someone was able to get the QuakeCon video almost entirely. I believe they are now releasing a PAX demo of some sort. I doubt we will see that QuakeCon video, even if they said so.

I'm still kinda bummed about not getting this video at all this past week and hearing we won't have it until next week or the week after. But oh well. Gives me something to look forward to. And once we get it, goodbye forums for a loooong time. But here's some things that I would like to see in the video:

I hope the video is at least 15 mintues long; with an epic intro & ending.
More 3rd person animations (dual-wielding, magic being used, swimming)
A walkthrough in a town other than Riverwood
A walkthrough in Whiterun (because we know they won't show us anything other than Whiterun)
One or two more creatures that we haven't either seen or don't know about.
Some of the smithing stages.

That's all. Oh and I hope the video is put on Xbox Live!

Your points on the purpose of this thread are correct except for that they never set themselves deadlines. They merely gave us estimates and if people took those as deadlines then they themselves are the cause of their disappointment. As for those "deadlines," no one has provided any source where they said end of the month or end of the week. They said end of the summer and the last I checked, it's not fall yet.

I wait for that video too, but seriously people need to chill! And some respect to the creators of this awesome game would be good, especially from those who want to spend time with it! People who say things like shooting them, don't even deserve the video, nor the game, that's my opinion. That kind of agressivity really makes me sick!

They're humans too, sometimes things aren't going according to plan! OK they're late, and what happened? They are working on something you'll get for free!!! So be patient! Good things come to those who wait!

I agree Peter!

You are so wrong. We've been following this right from the Quakecon announcement months ago when Pete said "we'll get an HD video out by the end of the week". After that, Pete has said loads of things about when it'll be here on his twitter. GStaff gave us a date as well.

No one has provided any source? We have. Read the previous threads. :shakehead:

No.
Check Pete's older tweets, which I did at the time but shan't bother to go through.
Also be sure to check Pete's pretty recent implied admission of the delay.

It also must be noted this is not new. Bethesda has now built a long lasting traition of missing deadlines - of which ?end of month? is a rather precise wording of one. The frustration has been building up.
