UPdate concept: decay of the dead and land keeping.

Post » Fri Feb 26, 2016 10:33 pm

yeah this may be an iffy topic, but really the fact we can not clean up corpses in our own settlements is annoying I Have a few settlements that have dead ghouls every where cause the will not despawn and I can't clean them up.

Suggestion: add an immersive decay to anything dead, make it so every in game day a body gains a level of "decay" this would just be a number once a body hits level 10 it turns into a skeleton which can be scrapped.

alternatively give us a building to clear the dead, like a morgue and graves.

IDea for morgue and graves

morgue

info: misc building requires settler, when built will clean up skeletons and bodies around the settlment be that robot, goo pile or just a dead raider.

effect: removes bodies around the settlement and turns out bone/robot parts in exchange. also can dig graves.

graves

info: increases settlement happiness if some one dies. Knowing that you will be taken care of after death and that even loved ones can be burried can be dark but it can be conforting

note: graves have an empty and full state. full graves will have bone and what ever items the settler had before death, requires a morque to be filled.

note w: some times an empty grave yard is better then a full.

LAND keeper

info: ok here is a misc concept for settlments a lands keeper job, this would be a simple area like the scavanging station, unlike the scavanging station this one can have more then one settler put on it (max 3)

lands keepers job: any one set to this station will start clearing up the area, removing and junk items and putting anything usable in storage (chairs, tables, containers) this station is limited in its usefulness as once the area is cleaned the station is useless.

note: the lands keepers will remove rubble and overgrown plants from the grounds, clearing up the area for more building.

Decay is a cool idea to players... but pointless from development perspective. Too much work for too little gain.

IMO, they should just enable corpse scraping in the Workshop menu as it's simple but gets the job done.

Akul not really, all it needs is a value, a counter and a result for once the value is hit.

example raider

decay value 5

once hit turns to "withered ghoul" loot lost, crows spawn around corps if out side.

dcay value 10

goes from ghoul to skeleton parts, can be scrapped for bone, parts decay at the end of 4 hours in game if player is not near.

Or just add a remove option once a corpse is looted that just makes it fade out of existence, no need to overcomplicate it.

Since when is that possible? They disappear after a while.. Oh wait... you use PC mods.

I'd rather just see them despawn. There's no need to over complicate things. Maybe it wouldn't be too terribly complicated to implement something like this, but it would surely be more complicated than just setting corpses to despawn or just making them scrappable.

For the time being, the only workaround is to open the console, click the corpse, enter 'disable', and then 'markfordelete'. Aside from using mods anyway.

If the corpse decay were implemented, I'd like to see it come with issues. As the corpses decay, they attract vermin. Radroaches. Bloatflies. Some of those disgusting mongrels. Perhaps they sprout fungi that our groundskeeper (taking from the OP's suggestion list) would have to attend to.

If there's nothing to do with the decaying corpses except to wait for them to disintegrate, I'd prefer they just *poof* despawn.

That's an interesting idea. I like it, but sadly that will likely never come to exist. I usually just move them by holding the A button and dragging them into water or off my land. EX: outside my Castle settlement i probably have 30-40 bodies stacking up in the water.

I'd actually like to see the bodies of the dead NPC's decompose in real time for once in a video game in real time.

I want to see flies come to the dead bodies of the dead NPC's and maggots come and eat the rotting flesh. Maybe attract other NPC's that eat dead bodies to come eat the flesh?

Unreal Engine 4 actually has this for food like fruits and vegetables that you can do with morphing.

I like this idea, it's a small secondary detail, but I can only see a dev like Bethesda adding stuff like this into their game. While every other dev would ignore these interactive gorgeous details and focus on cinematic crap instead.

"all I wanted was sharks with frikken lazer beams attached to their heads!"

result = no more bodies in your river, but what about the lazer sharks...
