Hoping this update doesn't screw with the dll fix i discovered not 5 minutes ago though... If it fixes my quick-save/auto-save problems and keeps the fps fixed I consider this game bug free (by gamebryo standards) and playable!!

If the update is decent you might not even need that dll fix now.

Yeah... any documentation released on the mystery patch?

Also, can anybody confirm this fixes the horrible fps problems without the ghettorigged .dll that most of us are using now?

Here's hoping...
The dll fixed my npc framerate drops but outside of buildings I get major stutter when panning around. The video card ramps up for a second and then it goes away until I happen to pan back on that certain spot again. Just murder my video card and run it balls out so I don't have to deal with it thinking about rendering something, it was 100 bucks at tigerdirect, I'm sure I can afford another 9800gt

The launcher bug is still there, still have to set compatibility mode. I'll check the npc stuff right now.

Ok, the NPC performance issues are still there. Leave the DLL in place. This seems to be a patch for gameplay bugs rather than performance/technical fixes.

Didn't fix the quick/autosave problems either...

Still good to see such quick patching being done though!!!

Keep it up Bethesda/Obsidian my faith is growing stronger now!!

Yeah, the NPC talking thing is still just as bad as ever on my system. Gonna use the dll again (hope it still works!)

Hopefully it fixed other things like those white lights with AA

Definitely did not fix NPC slow-down. Fortunately patch still works with the .dll workaround, staying with that.

falloutnv.esm is only new file. Wasn't it called fallout.esm before? I don't remember, but that's what the ini points to

Is there any way to cancel the update and play the game? I'm on dial up and I can't even get into the game due to it auto forcing me to download the update...

I don't mind playing a buggy game for a bit at least until I can go to a friends house in the city and get a patch and put it on a storage drive.

Yup I live waaayyyy out in the country. Can't get anything here but satellite and it's not even worth it since you can't play games on it anyways and costs 3-4 times what cable in the city does for 1/10th of the performance.

But seriously there is no way around this?

I'm confused as to why we're being forced to be online to play the game or at least to download a patch... especially what looks like a large one. I've never used steam before (or had any reason to) so maybe I'm misunderstanding something. I try switching to 'Offline mode' but it tells me the game isn't ready to be played in offline mode. So I change back to online mode and it tells me its launching but shows like 19 hours remaining and has a % on the main screen which I'm assuming is for a patch because I already installed the game from disk.

The back of the box said online connectivity required to ACTIVATE the game which is fine. I've played games before where I needed to be online to activate it but then I wasn't required to after that... Any help would be much appreciated. :]

Ouch that svcks dude, I live out in the country and I have cable internet...very high speed. You must live out in the sticks if you cant get any cable internet. I wont even live in a house that cant get cable internet.
