Upgrading from Overseer rifle

What's a good rifle to go to after after the Overseer's? I'm getting a little tired of using it.

I am using the last minute until I find that one. You can buy it from the girl at the castle who arrives to help you unlock the arty. Gauss rifle with +25% limb damage, I use it quite effectively to initiate combat.

Overseers is flat out probably the best store bought gun.

Getting lucky with drops will give you some cool stuff though.

Kneecapper guns in full auto are monsters

Any other two shot gun us pretty awesome.

Instigating is great for snipers/big guns.

Explosive for automatics

Lucky if doing luck/vats build

Another great automatic modifier is Wounding, causes bleed damage that stacks with each hit. Turns a mediocre Minigun into the harbinger of death.

A slight correction, for full autos wounding is currently the best as the effect stacks with each hit, any high DPS gun will deal stupid high levels of damage quickly. Explosive is also powerful but wounding has less collateral damage.

Two shots for some weapons like Fatmans, and Missile launchers are just as good as Instigating if not better I say, as the damage is essentially doubled and isn't limited to a requirement like being at full health so you'll do double damage consistently.

Other good types are Furious for high DPS guns as well as they do more damage for every shot at the same target perfect for big bosses that are massive and have a lot of health.

And Penetrating which ignore bullet and energy resistance.

Twoshot or instagating for single shot high power like a guass rifle or missiles

Explosive or Furious for a High ROF weapon like auto pistol or assault rifles.

you cannot really buy any really good ones, the last minute is not much better than a upgraded standard guass rifle. Partystarter and Big Boy are good but prohibitive to use.

i suggest farming the glowing sea.

overseer is possibly the best gun you can BUY in the game. When I got to the point where I was becoming bored of it , I just set my difficulty to very hard/survival, went to the glowing sea and farmed legendaries until I got some cool stuff to replace it.

Plasma Rifle. Deals both kinetic and energy damage. If your rifleman skill is up there by the time these are showing up it's hitting at 150+ base damage and that's nowhere near the max it can do.

How does limb dam,age work? You have to aim for the limb, or it's added on top of, say, a torso shot?

I am not entirely sure, but when I headshot them it nearly always pops off. From what I can tell it doesn't do any extra damage to the guys HP total, but damages the health of the limbs quicker, so you can disable them much easier, which is good for instigating fights if you have good aim. The very high damage combined with the sneak attack bonus and stuff it is an almost guaranteed disabled limb right at the start of the fight.

So head counts as a limb? Because if it does, with the bug in Macready's perk, this gun is just a win button. :D

I haven't done extensive testing or research, perhaps it is just a coincidence since a gauss rifle has high base damage, and combined with all the damage bonus perks and sneak attack perks and stuff I have, it does ridiculous damage.

I am still enjoying playing the game so have no immediate plans to investigate any of this beyond just casual observations.

I also found a double shot Hunting Rifle but because of it's very low rate of fire I found the Overseers' Guardian far better in all situations except against a single target, which is rare.

I LOVED my two-shot hunting rifle, once it was pimped out as a sniper rifle. (complete with .50 cal barrel.....) Fully perked out, I was north of 300 points damage per shot. Combine with sneak attack criticals, and the ninja perk, and you can one-shot damn near anything in the game, provided you see it FIRST. :)

If you put a suppressor on it and take Mr Sandman perk then you do even more. I can kill 5 or 6 enemies at range with the Overseers' Guardian before they scatter too much or detect me but even a tricked out double shot hunting rifle fires too slow to get more than 2 if you are lucky. It's not bad but for my gameplay style the Overseers' Guardian is better.

I am getting kind of fond of the Wazer Wifle. Range of 263, damage 155 or so - and unlimited ammunition.

Someone makes it for you, in exchange for some scrap junk. And it has sentimental value.

Every limb is a... limb.

Anything you can target in VATS is a separate limb.

I generally like to find a vantage point above the target area, that is 'difficult' to get to. (need to travel a good distance, or, a convoluted path) The overpass by the Corvega plant, for example. I can sit up there, snipe from a great vantage point, if I am detected, I can simply move a bit, and they lose me again. I can clear everyone outside, in about 20 minutes. :) And yup, suppressor helps quite a bit.
