UPnP In Crysis 2?

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 12:22 am

Yesterday I disabled the firewall in Windows 7, ever since I have not been able to connect to an MP server. When I try I get a momentary pause and then 'Connection to host has been lost'.

I have tried turning the firewall back on, resetting the firewall and 'allow'ing access to Crysis 2. Setting rules in the Advanced firewall CPL for Crysis 2 in both incoming & outgoing paths. Re-installing Crysis 2. Uninstalling Crysis 2 then wiping every reference to it on the hard drive and in the registry then re-installing it again. No success. I entered my details then went to the server browser. Servers appear and I can select them but I cannot connect. My stats all appear to be reset and my NAT shows as 'moderate'.

I am wondering if Crysis 2 uses UPnP to configure a router for program access and if so is there a way to trigger the behaviour agaiin.

I had similar issue quite some time ago, and I resolved it by deleting every Crysis 2 listing in the firewall list, then launch the game to let Windows pop up that firewall notification thing.

Not sure if your case is the same, but doesn't hurt to give it a try~

I did try that but it made no difference.

I have since done an OS wipe and re-install, plus a re-install of all drivers and the game. Still get the 'Connection to host has been lost' message any time I try to join a server. I'm baffled, there seems to be only a few possibilities left..

1) My router has suddenly stopped working as it should although I ran in DMZ yesterday and that made no difference.

2) A deep, hidden virus has hijacked the relevant ports. Virus and malware scans show nothing.

3) My ISP has blocked some of these ports as of Sunday evening.

4) My key has been banned, blocked etc - although I would expect to get a message saying I have been banned not just a 'connection lost' message.

I sent a message to EA Support yesterday but I would be surprised if it gets an answer.

Have you set port 64100 in your router forwarding/triggering options? There are sites that can check specific ports but not sure of the links anymore.

I don't use windows firewall because its POS. I use Zone-Alarm (less pos) and the router.

I tried your suggestion - no luck but thanks.

There are 10 TCP/UDP ports that the games lists should be opened but my router only has 10 spaces to enter ports and half of then are in use. Besides, I ran the router in DMZ last night and that made no difference. I assume that the game used UPnP to open the relevant ports anyway - I haven't had any issue since release up until Sunday evening.

I might reset my router to factory settings tonight. It's gonna be a hassle having to set everything back up though and TBH I don't know if I can be assed just to play a game.

I turned UDP off and manually add the correct ports and triggering ports.

This is odd - I just logged in with my old account and it works fine.

My old player was Jac70, I created a new player because I couldn't get my gamesas account to sync with my in-game account. I created a new in-game account and gamesas account, Jac75, and managed to get them synced. Now the Jac75 account won't connect to any servers.

If a Crytek mod sees this could you see if you can find a reason why my new account wont connect.
