Upper limit on crafting skills?

I keep reading about how you can't increase all of your crafting skills to the max.. you should pick 1 or 2 to max out. Where can I find details on this? During the beta I only got my character to level 8 or 9 but I was using all of the crafting abilities and levelling them all up with each item that I crafted or deconstructed. Will there be some point at which I am crafting things and no longer get crafting XP to level those abilities up? If so, what is that point?

There are a finite amount of skill points available. How many, I don't think anyone knows for sure. Every 3 skyshards gives you a skill point. Some quests give skill points. Every time you level up, you get a skill point. There's a lot available, but apparently not enough to get every skill in the game. If you were to focus on crafting and spend the minimum necessary points on non-crafting skills, you could probably max all of them.

maybe i'm not understanding something then but when I was crafting and my various crafting skills were gaining levels, I wasn't gaining and then assigning skill points... it just levelled up (for example) cooking from level 5 to level 6.

I guess my concern is, I was picking up every crafting material and then crafting stuff with them. I did not actively "spend" skill points (the ones you get when you gain XP from killing stuff) on any of them. By doing that, was I taking potential skill points away from my class skills?

You don't need skill points to level up a crafting skill, but you need them to unlock better materials. Obviously you want to be able to use the best available materials if you're a specialized crafter.

He has it, you can level up without using skill points but you wont be able to use anything higher then iron to craft items. Really after getting smithing to 21 i don't know if i will put any points into it other than the material area. The crafting bags were a joke, i was getting mats for items that were like 40 lvls higher than me and were of no use at all. I might put points into the research reduction and the one that gives you more mats out of tearing down an item. But thats about it.

side note, but i noticed the higher tier of items i crafted they did change color, i know some people have asked about this just thought i would toss it in.
