URGENT HELP NEEDED!

Post » Thu Mar 17, 2016 8:33 pm

I need some assistance. I have a problem with getting into Diamond City. The guards keeps trying to kill me every single time i approach. The last time i tried, for some reason Preston began firing back at me for reasons I'm not certain of. What exactly did i do to spark off the problem. I don't want to have to start the game all over (although that'll be fun but still not the best solution out there). Someone please help me

OK that never happened to me. Tell us a bit about your character's background. What have you been doing so far? What level are you? Is Preston your companion? Have you accidentally killed a turret or a guard that protects Diamond City?

Are you wearing any modified power armor, where the helmet highlights living targets? I heard that this will cause NPCs to go hostile for some reason.

Also, leave the area, go back to Sanctuary or some where with a bed and sleep for 48 hrs and then come back. Try that and people might forget that they were hostile before. :)

Maybe you accidently shot them in the fire fight outside with supermutants, or whatever. I believe if you fast travel to somewhere far away and rest for like 4 days till the cell resets and try going back. Ive had that happen. But if Garveys being like that maybe you should put his head on a pike outside your choice settlement. JK but still it could be a bug, if the method I suggested doesn't work try reloading one of the auto saves or saves right before you go into that area.

Firstly Preston is my companion. I may have shot down a turret on my first attempt to go to the City but only because i thought it was hostile. The guards have also been hostile to me. My last attempt to go to the city yesterday made it worse, Preston began to fire at me and i don't recall him being in my line of sight to have mistakenly shot him. Also i'm on level 16

Geez, you really must have done something bad to make sweet and calm Preston mad! LOL ;)

Head back to Sanctuary and sleep for 48 hrs or more. Do some other stuff and then go back to Diamond City. :)

Also, if someone is shooting at you, try to holster your weapon. Some NPCs will stop attacking you. But right now, your best bet is to let them all cool down and go away for a while.

Save often and don't just shoot stuff on sight. Use VATS to figure out if something or someone is hostile.

Not really, in my 1st game all of covenant went hostile towards me and in defending myself preston went hostile and left me as a companion..hes easy to piss off. I reloaded a save and went there, this time I didn't fire till preston did and he stayed on my side and helped me clear the place out.

At OP, like agrona said, use vats to see if what ur about to shoot at is hostile or friendly. And ur only options are to reload an earlier save from before you shot that turret or leave for 3-4 days and see if you can return to a non-hostile diamond city. Good luck!

Using vats isn't a guarantee that it will show hostile/friendly. Many times I've had raiders, turrets, gunners show as friendly (green) in vats knowing full well they are hostile.

True, but i'd say 999/1000 vats gets it right..

Maybe it's my game not sure but it happens quite frequently to me. Maybe the sneak/night person perks. Maybe the game doesn't even know I'm there so it defaults to friendly.

Seen that happen often too crunch1200

Vats has shown deathclaws as "good/green" and raiders as well.

It would randomly be one or two raiders mixed in with vats targeting the others as red. Don't know why these guys are tagged as non hostile like that for vats. Ive even seen raiders, normal hostiles attacking me still in the "green"

I had something very similar happen to me, except it happened with the Brotherhood on the Prydwen. I didn't do anything to get on the BoS bad side, and this is right when the Prydwen first shows. I hopped on the vertibird with Danse and set the controller down. When I arrived at the Prydwen, everyone (including Danse), was hostile and firing at me. I don't know what caused this.

I reloaded my game to before hopping on the vertibird, and replayed boarding the Prydwen, and everything was fine after the reload. No one was hostile. Seems like there may be a bug somewhere here.

On the topic of bugs, I ran into a bug yesterday where there was an invisible wall blocking my path to the Railroad HQ. It was at the secret door that you open via the rotating lock mechanism in the church.

Thanks for the advice. It worked for me after i left the city and rested for about 48 hours or so. Now i've got them off my tail.

I'm assuming there was a Settlement that needed your help and you ignored it.

Sometimes the Companions get in fights with the settlements or factions ( I play on XB1). If you help them, the fight seems to escalate. But if you just reload all the damage is undone. If you saved over all your saves and it's still there, then it might be a problem. The NPC's who died might be dead. Luckily companions usually just heal after the fight. I think the agro seems to fix itself if you log out of the game totatlly and come back in.

I have only lost companions to faction choices and Hancock was down (during that huge fight at a base quest) and got hit by a grenade when I was playing on the pre patch survival mode, and I didn't have any perks (still don't) that protect the companions from my damage. Thus my Hancock is dead :nope:. And to make it worse I didn't unlock his perk yet. In fact all the ones that died, I didn't. Ouch. But at least I have all the other companion perks.

So it's usually not a game breaker. Though you might lose some NPC who you didn't want to kill, if you save over all your saves prior.
