An urgent matter

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 7:11 am

Finally after years of waiting and wishing, Bethesda has announced the next installment in the Elder Scrolls series. I haven't been in such high spirits in a long time, and many of you are the same - so begins a new age of relentless forum speculation and overanolyzing trailers. Just in time for the holidays, too. But there's just one issue which has left me ruminative:

How are we going to abbreviate Skyrim?
SK, SY, SR, SI (taken), SM (hot)

I call the continental Elder Scrolls naming summit to order! :celebration:

We really don't, considering nobody abbreviates Arena - both that and Skyrim are mercifully short names compared to the other installments in the series. But still, one will probably emerge sooner or later.

Arena - It's so badass it gets its full title

DF - Daggerfall

MW - Morrowind

OB - Oblivion

So following that general pattern, I support SkyRim, SR

I've always abbreviated it as SK.

Now by always, do you mean for the past hour, or in all of those hypothetical TES V: Skyrim announcement day scenarios you've been planning all along? :P

I'm quite fond of SR as it is, because two unconnected consonants distinct from one another seem to more wholesomely represent the title of the game, as with the majority of the other abbreviations - DF, MW, BM, SI.

SK, I think.

S(ky)R(im) works, too, since it removes an equal number of letters and also has the first letter of the roots of the name (sky, and rim, respectively).

SK is the best. SR sounds nothing like Skyrim, and the 'R' sound isn't pungent enough to make a good abbreviation. DF, MW, OB. The second letter is always stronger than the first. SK follows in line with that, SR does not.

SK, SM, SY, SR. I'm not too fussy.

It'll probably follow the SR route that was set by Morrowind with two clear "words" inside.
