USB Speakers

Post » Sun May 15, 2011 10:01 am

Hey, so I went out and bought a Dynex DVI-D to HDMI cable compatible with my HD computer monitor for both computer use AND more importantly, so I can hook my 360 up to my decently sized monitor when the TV is taken. The only problem is there isn't any sound. Can I go out and buy a pair of USB speakers and plug them into the USB port on my 360, or if not, what should I be looking at? An adaptor? Different cable?

Thanks ahead, dudes.

1. I'd be highly surprised if you can plug USB speakers into the 360. I am 99.999% certain that won't work, since I doubt MS included driver support for that

2. Look at your monitor's papers. If your monitor has built-in speakers, there is probably a way to get the audio out of the built-in speakers. If your monitor does not have built-in speakers, then yes, you will need to look for an adapter that separates the audio (probably to 3.5mm) and video (either keeping it HDMI or switching it to DVI), since your current HDMI line is carrying both.

Unfortunately, most adapters I've seen do the opposite.

Yeah, I kinda doubted the speakers would work. If only companies could cooperate and make life simpler for us, huh? Thanks for confirming. But, see, the rubbish is that my monitor DOES have built in speakers and at 100% volume there is no sound with the 360. If I plug the little cable that came with it from the monitor into the computer, the sound will work fine, but no luck with the Xbox.
