Use Meteoric Iron set in WEPON mod?

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:18 pm

I was browsing TESNexus today, and came across MadCat's "Meteoric Iron" weapon set, http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5521 It really caught my attention, as it appears to be a nice set, and one of the additions I wish to make to WEPON (Weapon Expansion Pack for Oblivion Nthusiasts) is a set of Adamantium weapons.

The reason for Adamantium's addition is that, besides the Orcish and Mithril sets added by WEPON, it is the only major set that has appeared in previous Elder Scrolls games but not Oblivion.

Assuming that MadCat agrees to it, what do you think about including the Meteoric Iron set (with more mundane enchantments etc.) in WEPON as Adamantium?

Well, it outright pains me to say this, but I'd recommend against it. Reason is, the set is already included in OOO (and possibly the Ayleid Steps and COBL), and may possibly cause confusion (especially since OOO's weapons are usually well hidden. That said, it is a beautiful set, and if it wasn't already being used in other mods, I'd totally vouch for its inclusion.

you can just use the BASE esp included that hand-places weapons inside ruins to be found and doesn't touch leveled lists, so regardless of what other mods you're using you can still have it

Well, that's disappointing, but I'm not surprised since as you said it's a great-looking set. I supposed I could always try talking the OOO authors into removing their set but I'm guessing I wouldn't get far. :)

Well, to be honest, I have no interest in the ESP; it's the models that I'm interested in. Any weapon set incorporated into WEPON would have stats, leveled lists, names, locations, etc. changed.

Those ones look REALLY nice.

I'd wholeheartedly say yes to them.

Oh, now those are rather nice, too... Intricate looking, yet obviously made for combat. I like 'em :)

The thing I like about that other set - "Expanded Weapon Set" - is that it looks a lot like I imagined Adamantium to look. My original design specs for Adamantium weapons called for a dark, highly lustrous metal similar to platinum, which looked very heavy. I don't know about "heavy", but otherwise these weapons fit the bill!

I really like the look of the Ayleid Meteoric Iron set and I use it in one of my personal mods. You could retexture the set and include it in WEPON without any conflicts. As for that other set, I like it too, but you'll need Andragorn's permission to use it.

I just heard back from Madcat; he has asked that I not repurpose that set as Adamantium. So now I'm trying to get ahold of Andragorn...
Another alternative, of course, is that someone with a lot of energy could develop a new set...it won't be me though as I don't know enough about meshes yet to do much of anything :)

Well except for Chitin :hubbahubba:

I like that second set for Adamantium though.

Heh, I should rephrase. Adamantium is the only other set that's appeared in multiple other Elder Scrolls games. It was in Arena, Daggerfall, and Morrowind, so why not Oblivion? :toughninja:

On a related note, I need ideas for one more set of weapons, and a related Light Armor set. The reason for this is, if I add Adamantium armor to WEPON, there will be more Heavy than Light armor available in-game, unless I also add a Light Armor set.
To be added to WEPON, the additional set needs to be "canonical", i.e. be a major set that has appeared in previous Elder Scrolls games. It also needs to fit between Dwarven and Elven in weapon quality, and between Mithril and Elven in armor quality (for reasons I can get into if anyone is interested). So far I've only been able to come up with Chitin or Stalhrim. Any suggestions?

I recommend Stalhrim. There are already a couple of mods that add Chitin armor to the game (including John's Overhaul) but I've never seen one that brings back Stalhrim. The only one I can find that even mentions it is http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=30276 You might have a hard time finding new armor and weapons that looks appropriate for the set though.

Have you looked at the mod Vvardenfell Imports? It includes literally dozens of armors from Morrowind, including an Adamantium set. There's not much in terms of weapons included, but it should include potential candidates for light armor.

but I've never seen one that brings back Stalhrim.

You would have to search for Ice Armor/weapons as that is what those made from stalhrim were called

Ice (Stalhrim) armour and weapons (medium armour rating):

It was in Arena, Daggerfall, and Morrowind, so why not Oblivion?

Well... it wasn't in Morrowind, it was in a DLC. When Morrowind was being created, there was an active decision to leave out adamantium and mithril to help distance TES from D&D/Tolkein -- we're talking a deliberate retcon, i.e. it was a bad idea in the first place and let's pretend it never happened. I remember one of the folks involved (Kirkbride, probably?) being rather upset about that DLC.

Of course, mithril came back for Oblivion. (Which reinforces my hunch that it was mainly Michael Kirkbride behind the toss-it-out movement.) And this is a mod anyway. So no harm in adamantium, really; but I figure, you might as well have the full context. :)

Rats. It appears that the weapon set I was planning to use for Adamantium is not complete. I was going to use the Sotonhorian set from Andragorn, but it is missing a bow, warhammer, and one other weapon (can't remember which off-hand). The dagger would also need rescaled, and the arrow quiver doesn't look like it quite matches the rest of the set to me.

I contacted Andragorn and while he has given me permission to use any of his resources in WEPON, he is not interested in doing any further weapon modeling work. As I cannot do weapon modeling, would anyone be interested in completing this set so that I can add it as Adamantium to WEPON?

That was my thought, retexturing them would work ok :)
I have to say no to outright use though.
