Useful re-animation

*This thread may contain spoilers for you if you haven't finished the mage's guild quest*

Personally I think re-animation is one of the coolest abilities in oblivion which you get after the mage's guild quests when you acquire the staff of worms, which is able to reanimate the dead for a period of time. Now I think this is one of the best rewards for quest completion I've ever seen so far, everything else like money, spells, items I could have gotten elsewhere or bought, there's only one problem it's rather useless . Now idk If I'm somehow I'm using it wrong but anyone I reanimate just stands there and follows me, doesn't attack or block or do much of anything, and I think if reanimation were to be incorporated into Skyrim the dead should be able to do something in the way of attacking, blocking or even just distracting the attacker.

But of course does anyone even want re-animation in Skyrim?

It′s an interesting idea, but why would you want to reanimate dead when you can just cast a conjuration spell?

Maybe he wants to RP a necromancer instead of a conjurer?

I'm reminded of the Death Knight's ability in Warcraft III - in which all reanimated units were just as powerful as they were in life, and invulnerable, but could not be healed and only remained reanimated for about a minute or so. Not suggesting this for TES V, just bringing it up.

Anyway I actually don't really care much at all about the durr hurr necromancy evil army stuff, but I think it'd be the interesting subject of a quest or maybe even a unique dungeon in which you need to turn your enemies against others for a limited time. Reanimated creatures/NPCs should not only be weaker than they were in life, but also have severely reduced magicka if you ask me.

The re animation in Oblivion was more of a really cool extra, but it didn't really impact game play as the reanimated couldn't do anything.

I think it should be exactly what it was in Oblivion, except let it be a lesser power or spell in addition to the greater power and staff. Of course the lesser power/spell would cost a lot of magicka. I'm not sure about what I am about to say, but what if re-animation could be used for full ressurection. Like your ally just died and seconds later you reanimate him and channel the souls of the just killed enemies into him and heal him to bring him back to life as if he had never died. This last idea would be a greater power only.
