Useful stats on gear

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 1:20 pm

I can't remember how many times I would be walking through a dungeon in Oblivion and an enemy dropped a weapon and I was all "Dood, that thing looks sick, lemme see what it does...... fortify speechcraft 15 points.... neat....". How about some good stats this time around, i.e. gauntlets that fortify strength 10 points and endurance 5 points or a robe that fortifies Intelligence by 10 points and Destruction by 15 points, overall just stuff that's useful, not a helm that boosts my mercantile and water walking! And while I'm at it, maybe have unique armor sets depending on skills like dual wielding, two handers, bows, etc just so every one of your characters isn't wearing either daedric or glass.

Agreed. You just had terrible luck with random enchants. I've seen plenty of weapons with fortify attribute/skill or decent direct magic damage. I really didn't care for random enchanted weapons anyhow, I went for artifacts or made my own enchants on a unenchanted weapon. What I want this time around is for them to keep the unenchanting ability we got in Shivering Isles.

Some of my loot experiences were probably OOO related, but I remember finding stuff like Rings of +10 to every melee/magic stat, weapons with magic damage out the wazoo and all sorts of stuff used to kill people effectively.

I mean I did find some cool things like a ring that increased strenth endurance and blade which was awesome, but this is more what I'm talking about http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Masque_of_Clavicus_Vile the quest's rewards are either a sword that soul traps on contact and has the highest base damage of any 1-h weapon in the game or a helmet that fortifies your personality by 20, kind of a no-brainer.

Sword would be useless for anybody who doesn't use a sword.

And heavy helm that fortifies personality is useless for, well, anybody.

There are some things that just svcked. Like Resist Poison Blue and Green Outfit. "Ohh 5%." How often do you get poisoned? Maybe 1 time out of every 50 enemies that can poison you (Anything that wields a weapon). did they ever have a badass damage health or paralysis potion on their weapon? Psh, no. Why do that when they can drain my personality? Oh no! Now I can't yield to him! /sarcasm

The could definitely improve this on some stuff. Sure some items were totally awesome but a lot of the gear was complete crap. If there is leveled anything, It should be leveled enchanted items. Not even so much leveled but randomized. I think the main problem with it (at least for me) is that all the items you could buy just plain svcked. Everything was like Fortify Blade 10 but Damage Strength 10. Just not worth it. Plus all the gear was like 30k gold.

Useful is in the eye of the beholder :D even thought those "beholders" may be quite few, but I shall take the challenge of finding a use for any item + enchantment combination anyone can think of upon myself! Starting with those you mentioned.

Weapon with Speechcraft = A bard may carry a dagger for protection but his main passion is the art of words and his dagger suits his needs perfectly.

Helm with Mercantile and Water-walking = A tradesman may have to travel great distances in Cyrodiil between towns and as a simple trader he has few combat skills to brag about, but with his helmet he can buy wares in the Imperial City at discount prices and travel with them outside of the city from the Talos Plaza District where he can start his route towards Bravil safely walking on the water where no monsters will assault him (can′t trust those imperial watchmen to keep the roads safe these days one can′t), so his helm both aids him in his bartering and allows him to have safe transportation monster free between certain points of interest.

But I do get what you mean, after all if you loot strong monsters in a cave why would you feel rewarded by getting items designed for those who would not partake in combat, there should be like 85% chance of good useful weapons dropping in dungeons (since ofc you′d expect most of the items to come from adventurers who failed) and the other 15% should be for the sake of immersion or just randomness if you like where the monsters may have gotten it from some poor chap who didn′t even venture there in the first place.

The only time I was ever amazed by a piece of gear that dropped off an enemy was shadowrend. 15% weakness to magic and 30 points of magic damage, damn. I picked it up and I was like "Goldbrand, we had a good run, but I've found another."

And now, they shall be used together. I will remake Mehrunes' Razor and and Dual Wield it with my custom Occam's Razor.

"How did that guard die?" The simplest explanation is best and that explanation is that I slit his throat and sent his ass to Oblivion.

I would like weapons enchanted so that they don't need to be repaired...It's pretty common in fantasy stories; In LotR Aragorn's sheath kept his sword sharp.

Hopefully with the enchantment and blacksmith skills you can make your own badass weapon or armor. As long as it doesn't limit it's strength based off of the soul gem charge you should be fine.
