Usefull PS3 tip

I think we get the point with everyone quoting the "upscaled" thing. Enough already. The guy was just trying to help spread some potentially useful info for PS3 players. So he didn't know that it wasn't true 1080p - I think we get that now. It's still an interesting thing to try out and see which you prefer. Sheesh.

Thank you.

If you have a nice enough TV, and you sit far away enough, upscalling can often look better.

We need 1000 more of you on this forum.

OT: ill try with some of my games OP. I see on the gta 4 box, the max setting is 1080p, but my system always plays on 720. Thanks for the info, hopefully, it will help with some games.

So do you recommend I try the "PS upscaler" and the "PS smoothing" in "Game Options" for Skyrim and if it does'nt work just change it back?

I never even knew about those options.I guess I just wanted to know if everyone has them turned on and ive been missing out.

Everyone is correct that the PS3 often upscales 720p to 1080. However, if your TV is 1080 and a game 720 then either your PS3 needs to upscale or your TV needs to upscale or you AV amp needs to upscale. Like it or not, unless you are running in native then there is going to be some upscaling involved. For many people, the TV will contain the better upscaler but for some the PS3 will upscale better. Try both, see which one looks better and chill

I keep those options on by default, but I recommend that you toggle all of the options and compare with your own eyes to see what works best with you and your TV if you are looking to optimize the settings.

These options are only for Playstation 1 games (and PS2 games if your PS3 has full backwards compatibility). They don't change anything for Skyrim.

If your TV has worse interpolation for lower resolutions, forcing 1080p, even though it's just upscaled can indeed improve image quality.
Otherwise upscaling rather reduces image quality than improves anything. Unless there is some fancy image improving technique behind it like with DVD upscaling in BluRay Players which isn't the case for upscaling video games.
In most cases running the games in 720p should look better.
But it doesn't hurt to try this tip, maybe for some it's an improvement :)
