Usefull PS3 tip

NOTE: THIS IS NOT A CONSOLE WAR, JUST A GOOD TIP FOR PS3 USERS WHO WANT THE MOST OF OUT THIER SYSTEM WHEN PLAYING SKYRIM.

Ok guy and girls in the midst of my bordem and insanity of waiting for skyrim I thought I would fool around with my PS3 and
get my "Man Cave" prepared for Skyrim.

I came across some threads in these forums of PC users making fun os us console users for not being able to play in full 1080p. Telling us that the most we play at is 720p.

Well I have figure it out. Im sure some people already know this but this is for the ones who dont and who want to get the most out of the PS3 when playing Skyrim.

So here is a little guide on how to play Skyrim in full 1080p on your PS3.

So first off your going to need a tv that can support 1080p ofcourse. Also the game has to support 1080p.

Step 1:
Go into you display settings and select Video output settings>HDMI> Custom

Now your going to see the video output settings. They will all be selected. 576p, 720p,1080i, and 1080p.

If you leave the settings like this all your games that can support 1080p will be displayed at 720p for some reason.

Now only select 1080p. You should now have only 576p, and 1080p selected. 576p is default and cannot be removed. I dont know why or what 576p is.

Continue on and save your settings. Now all your games that can support 1080p will be displayed in 1080p.

NOTE: if your try and play a game that does not support 1080p with these settings it will now load. Just go back and select 720p to play.

Step two:

To get the most out of your tv you will also want to go into display settings again.

Change the RGB Full Range (HDMI) from limited to to full.

change the YP/GB PR/CR Superwhite (HDMI) from off to on.

By taking these steps you will now be play skyrim in full 1080p.

I have just picked up MW3 and tested the difference between these setting and the "standard" settings of the PS3 and it is night and day. The blacks are more dynamic aloing with sharper images. More contrast and and overall better picture.

Sorry if everyone knows this I'm sure it will better some fellow Skyrim junkies gameplay.

Also does anyone else have some cool tips to get the most out of thier ps3 for skyrim?

No, it's still 720p. It's just upscaled.

You have no idea how graphic rendering works. There's a solid and good reason why many ps3 and 360 games do not Render at 1080p. The loss in performance outweighs the quality. You ps3 has hardware that is capable of outputting resolutions far greater than 1080p (if you hooked it up to a monitor that could display it, and somehow unlocked the software to do it). Again the problem is performance. To get a game as big and detailed as Skyrim to run at an acceptable framerate the resolution has to be reduced and then upscaled, that means using the video encoder to add false data to the image, to get a full 1080p picture.

That. You'll also notice a difference in the sharpness of edges when you watch a movie in 1080p and play a game on the console "in 1080p".

I own Black Ops on the PS3, and had a chance to play Black Ops multiplayer on the PC when it was free for a few days on Steam, both in 1080p, and the difference in clarity is night and day.

Everything about a game apart from graphics/resolution/other crap > graphics/resolution/other crap

LOL

But in the end, no .. if a game was built around 720P it's better to play it in 720P .. people think if they play it in 1080P it'll look better ..

When you upscale it makes it look worse ..

What about the "PS upscaler" and "PS smoothing" options in Game Settings? Should I turn those on if I hav'nt already? I have a 2011 Samsung smart tv with my PS3 hooked up to it through the HDMI cable.

Unfortunately, some games look worse upscaled.

The PS3 version of GTA IV didn't look as good on my 1080p screen as it did on my 720p screen, the shading was obviously grainy. :(

I'm hoping Skyrim doesn't have similar upscaling issues. (FO3 and FONV looked fine so I'm not as worried)

So do you recommend I just try the "PS upscaler" and the "PS smoothing" for Skyrim and if it does'nt work just change it back?

I never even knew about those options.I guess I just wanted to know if everyone has them turned on and ive been missing out.
