mods mods mods. :) if they are indeed modeling after how apple does it im not to worried. worst case scenario is that the icons are way huge in order for clunky controllers to be able to work them. hopefully darn is around to fix that. as long as its not as awful as oblivions.

The concern is if the UI is bad that it will also be hard to mod that is the worst case scenario.

If I recall they've said the menu uses Adobe Flash. I'm sure some modders have access to that.

I wish they would release screenshots of the PC UI in the game.

I'm going to play the PC version with my xbox controller, so I hope the PC UI will have enough flexibility and customization (hotkeys, etc) to support all kinds of peripheral devices.

If I recall they've said the menu uses Adobe Flash. I'm sure some modders have access to that.

I'm sorry, but whaaaaat?
Didn't hear that. Would be very surprised if true. Have source?

They have released some information on the PC version, such as it will be Directx 9 and won't take advantage of any PC specific things other than slightly higher resolution textures.

Now I just want to see what the damn UI and menus look like so that I can get the disappointment out of the way before release.

Something other than a few comments and vague promises.

Sadly we will be lucky to get any information beside "hints" and "maybe" before the game is released. They are mainly a console dev that port to pc.

Todd did say they are working on a separate PC UI. I'm 100% sure about that, I just don't know if it was a podcast or an interview...

Hehe, I know what you mean. Kinda sad that mod'ers are needed to make the game playable on PC.

I still love TES but seriously if there wasn't such a great mod community out there I don't think I could play the vanilla game.

I don't see why they couldn't simply arrange the skills across two columns to the left/right of the constellation. Maybe it may make the transition less impressive, but I think it'd be way more useful to be able to see all of your skill levels at a glance. Additionally, I wonder if the inventory will have icons at all or if it's all been phased out for 3D views? Not that it matters. Morrowind's were fuzzy renderings and Oblivion's were just the model with a Photoshop filter applied.

Unfortunately given Bethesda's track record with OB/FO3, that could just mean they've finally uncracked the secret to making the game's fonts smaller.

I still think the UI from Far Cry 2 is the best.

I think for good ideas regarding to RPG UIs they should look at MMORPG games.

My current personal favourite ui is from guild wars, completely customizable, it can be as busy or was minimalist as you want. Everything can be repositioned and resized as needed.

The Guild Wars UI was perfect, in my opinion. I oft cite the game as also having a really good third person camera - you can zoom in/out and revolve it around your character, and it'll stay in place if you so choose. I'm amazed really that Bethesda's games are still limited to the rigid "release button, snap back to fixed position" style for third person.

Personally I have never had a problem with the UI in Oblivion or Fallout 3. Fallout 3's UI annoyed me a little bit because if you were using a stealth boy, the pip boy was invisible too...

I haven't played Morrowind, but I've been watching the Lets Play Morrowind videos on Jpagamer's youtube channel. I can definitely see the benefit of the grid system. It looks more simple. But, I really like how its laid out in Oblivion as a list because you can see the different information of the items!

Also, I can't remember being annoyed about delays in the menu being shown. There was a delay in Fallout, but that was because of the animation.

Im looking forward to what they come up with for Skyrim.

The animation was worthless. But more to the point is the key things being talk about are not in dispute. No one is saying they will make the game worse, some like yourself just don't care, also if you have only played games with bad UI you may have no idea what a good UI can do to improve the game.

They are. As I said earlier in this thread (days ago), the PC is getting it's own UI built and we will still have our ability to keymapping hotkeys.

I wish the mouse cursor had the exact same fluidity as it does at my desktop in Windows. None of that forced acceleration crap.

They had hot key in OB and FO3, but I could not hotkey my journal, or my map. All 3 of my main issue are unknowns right now. I don't know why you keep bring up this info because it does not confirm those key issue I am interested in are gone.

Beths track record is not that best in this area, and none of these issues are confirmed gone, I think it reasonable to be concern about the UI.

Grid vs. list???

What about grid+list+detail, sort by, group by options and ability to change icons size's real time? Like in Windows. Customizable windows like in Morrowind(or again Windows, they can add snapping too) instead of animated transitions? Having journal separate also helps me stay away from spreadsheety.

I found Oblivion's UI beautiful and found new functionality very welcome but it wasn't optimal. I expect to see above for PC since they are making a PC specific UI.
