@Username is Fine

Just because it could be worse doesn't mean it cannot be better. Sure, you need to verify the e-mail, but by just knowing your account name hackers are still one step ahead of you. Let us choose a universal handle if you want accountability, but it should not be part of your login information.

I actually like the @handle option, myself. Just as long as it is consistent between all your characters, and not easily changed.

Maybe even force the security requirement that it be different than the account name AND share no similar words/phrases with your email you registered with.

On an aside, it would also help with the character name issue, if each character name was followed by the handle. Then a given character name would be limited to one per account, instead of one per game.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2095500/can-a-hacker-use-a-brute-force-attack-to-steal-an-online-password.html

password that matters in these attempts. IF someone is going to take that time to pay for the game, play and join a guild, write down usernames and start a brute force hacking program, they well probably never get you account information.

What they would do is look for a hole in ESO's security, and then STEAL all their information..infact your more likely to pick up a virus from looking at information about ESO that well give away all your sensitive information.
