[RELz] Ushindra Beach

Post » Fri Dec 17, 2010 4:43 pm

Ushindra Beach is a small island south of Ebonheart. This mod adds a handful of buildings (though not all visible or obvious at first), and about a dozen quests. It is not entirely lore-friendly, as you will see from what the NPCs are wearing in the screen-shots (it was originally a clothing mod!), but hopefully should be fun.

You need Better Bodies for this, but not Tribunal or Bloodmoon. It is aimed at lowish characters, who are already a member of one of the three great houses, but should be playable by any character.

There is a BETA thread and this RELZ thread ....

Does the link in the RELZ thread lead you to the most recent version of this mod, which would include the minor tweak mentioned in BETA thread?

Thanks in advance for helping me be less confused ;)

ciao,
Salamandar

Big. Looking in the CS, looks like they overlap big time. Sorry it took so long to reply, by the way.

Cool clothes. I like the idea of a beach party type of thing.
But when you put them indoors, away from the beach, it takes away that beach party vibe.

I discovered a conflict with Morrowind Crafting. Since Morrowind Crafting changes the kelp plants in the cells renamed Ushindra the game won't have any cells named Ushindra and all the dialog becomes unfiltered. This causes almost every NPC to complain about slaughter fish and breaks most quests. There are a couple of solutions available. One is to alter the last mod in your load order to name the cells renamed in Ushindra Beach back to their Ushindra Beach names. Another is to load Ushindra Beach last in the load order. John.Moonsugar is working on a perl enhancement that will solve this problem for all mods that rename cells and then test that cell for dialog.

:shocking: necromantic bump...

with a good reason: I need this thread to live, because I'm going to update the mod. I have just contacted The Pixie and got his permission to work on it. My agenda so far:
  • fix a potentially quest breaking dialogue filtering issue with Matus Mido in the PQ_BeachPersuasion quest
  • look into Ileandri's dialogue/script. Whenever I pay her to cast a restoration spell on me, a guard will attack and kill her
  • make Ushindra Beach completely compatible with http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1045818 (just a small dialogue/scripting addition; Ushindra Beach won't even become dependent on RoHT)
  • look into the bug Nicholiathan reported. Maybe it's possible to make the dialogue filters independent of Cell names
  • possibly add a couple of Greetings so that quests will flow smoother
  • possibly adjust the landscape so that Ushindra Beach will become compatible with Dulsya Isle (not sure about this yet)
  • fix all bugs I'll be aware of. If you encounter a bug, please let me know of it, either in this thread or via PM

[*]fix visual lapses
This will be a rather small update: I basically like Ushindra Beach as it is, and I don't even care if it's lore correct or not. :) So the main objective for this update is fixing bugs and improving compatibility.

It doesn't look that lore-unfriendly to me. Only thing I don't like are how bright and goofy looking some of the clothes textures look.

Well, it's not lore-unfriendly. There are only a few things, like a NPC called "Lycra" that seem a little out of place. But the mod is simply too much fun to really care about such quibble. :)
I agree with you on the textures: some are a bit bright and gaudy. On the other hand: it's swim wear. Certainly there's something remotely similar available at your local stores. I am no texturer, however: if there are going to be new clothes in the updated version, one of the many talented texturers around here will have to do them. To anyone who's interested: you're very welcome to create something beautiful. :)

I did a version of Lara Croft's wetsuit from Underworld for another mod I'm working on - you're welcome to have that if you want - maybe phijama could create a speargun to go with it :)

Edit: Actually now that I think about it - it's probably best not to add other swimwear to Pixie's mod - Pixie would of spent a lot of time picking colours and textures for the outfits and they are unique to the mod - perhaps it might be more honourable to leave them as they are and just stick to the original intent of fixing the dialogue other wise it may be changing the mod too much

Nah, It's just a minor annoyance. If the mod is fun enough, I'll probably not notice. Plus, some of these might look good on my character :)

You're absolutely right: Ushindra Beach's clothes are perfect as they are. Thank you for offering to contribute to the mod, though. :)

I just had a lecture on California in the 50s and 60s today and still have California Girls from the Beach Boys stuck in my head  Love the idea of this mod!
On a more helpful note, here is a link to a French mod which is (as far as I know) completely unknown outside of wiwiland:

http://morromods.wiwiland.net/spip.php?article705

Plage means beach in French, the mod adds a beach not far from Vivec. Don't be fooled by the lack of screenshots on the dl page, this mod is packed with many, many new NPC animations (^^) and meshes, all of them useful to add some flavor to a beach. You have animations to create sunbathing npcs, and meshes of palmtrees, parasols, and much more. And according to the readme, everything is free of use, as long as you credit the two authors.
These meshes look great, and as far as I know have never been re-used. Maybe you'll find some resources useful for Ushindra Beach in this mod! ^_^

This is just a small bump to let you know that I haven't forgotten about this mod. A combination of modding fatigue and beautiful weather (= outdoor activities) has led to this 2-month delay. What I have done so far:
  • Proofread the dialogue
  • Fixed the visual lapses (like windows hovering in the air, away from the building
  • polished some of the landscaping (mostly changing a few ground textures - nothing big, just minor beautifications)
  • Begun to understand and fix (where necessary) the quest structure. Completed quests so far: PQ_BeachSlaughterfish, PQ_BeachAccounts, PQ_BeachAccounts2
The Pixie is using a different approach to structuring quests than I'm used to, so it's taking me longer than anticipated. I'm finding my way through it, it only takes a bit longer.

@Mandamus:
I can't believe that I still haven't thanked you for pointing out that resource. Thank you! I'll look into it as soon as I'll have crawled my way through all of Ushindra's quests.

Edit: got meshes mixed up with textures... I shouldn't post so late in the evening

I don't play mods that stick out from the lore based gaming, as it breaks my immersion, so this will not be something I down load atm.. however, it actually does look like it would be fun, so if I end up making a goof off character in the near future, I will have to add this. As for the linked resource, is there not an "unknown mods" page or something we can post that on? I bet several other modders would find some of that useful.
