Using a controller

Post » Tue Jul 02, 2013 11:18 am

Hey all!

So I'm new to gaming on a PC and while I know a lot of people prefer using the mouse and keyboard, I've always been a console gamer and so am wanting to use a controller to play. Now I already have a logitech game pad, but I've heard that using a xbox 360 controller is much better so I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on that. Related to that, does one need to use a Microsoft controller or would an off brand controller work as well?

Thanks so much! :-)

If you use a Non MS 360 controller, you will have to use third party software to remap the controls.

Best is a Wired 360 Controller. Well, best is really the Keyboard and Mouse, but if you insist on using a game pad, use the 360 controller.

I use an Xbox controller myself since it's much more comfortable for me. Not sure on the game pad, but you don't need a Microsoft brand controller, I use a Madcatz ( stupid name ) model and it works fine. The triggers stick a little after years of using it, but there's no massive flaw in using an off-brand controller.

Welcome to the forums

I recently bought a 360 controller for my pc. It's just like playing on a console.

I did have an issue where it sometimes wouldn't fire when I pulled the trigger and other times it would spam the fire button without me touching it. Not sure why. From googling it, it seems pretty uncommon though.

The benefit of the Xbox controller(or licsenced 3rd party) is that for most console ports, the controls are pre-mapped in game to the Xbox 360 defaults. So if you ever have played a game on 360,it will play the same on pc.

I love using the 360 controller for pc games. Problem is, the sensitivity is too low even on high settings! Mouse and keyboard worked way better than the controller.
