Using Two hands on one handed weapon?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 10:40 am

I forgot if they said anything about this, but can you sacrifice another weapon or shield for a higher damage with one handers by using two?

Nothings been said about doing this, but my guess is no. I don't see a point to be honest, it kind of defeats having a two handed/one hand skill if you can use two hand on a one hand. Then they'd have to allow using a two handed with one hand, but less damage. If you want more damage, and want to sacrifice holding something in one hand to get it, then use two handed swords.

Actually it has been confirmed in multiple articles and interviews that you can indeed assign a one-handed weapon to both hands to increase both your damage and defense. This is closer to the way such weapons are used in real life anyways, switching between one-handed and two-handed grip as necessity dictates.

Well, I'm sure that Two handers will have more damage than that.

I want to be able to use a three-handed grip on two-handed weapons for more damage when playing a Khajiit or Argonian. That, or beast races should be allowed to triple-wield. :P

In what way? They have more reach and do more damage. They simply don't have the flexibility of the one-handers. If you're wielding a one-handed weapon in two hands you can switch to a healing spell or a shield on one hand and still have nearly the same amount of combat effectiveness. You can't do that in the two-handed style.

yea and if you can switch from a 1 to 2 handed grib with one weapon and you don't compensate the other weapon for the clear advantage you gave one handers... somebody help me here... im guessing you guys are one handed users? please look at this with an outside perspective :slap:

Consider it this way:

Your steel one-handed sword does ten damage. You can wield it two-handed to do fifteen damage but you swing a little slower and you can't have anything in your other hand.

Your steel two-handed sword does twenty damage and also has more reach.

did reach really make or break your weapon choosing in OB? if you can have a weapon that is versatile with dual wielding, shields, spells, and can be two handed to break the distance of damage between two handed only weapons which would you choose?

the difference in damage would make two handed weapons obsolete. you would have to give two handed weapons a perk that would compensate for that advantage. a link to this news would be great

It'd be my guess that the damage disparity will be greater than that.

How are you not understanding this? Wielding a one-hander two-handed is not as good as using a two-hander in terms of damage, defense, or reach. It's already balanced. As for the link, I can't be bothered to. If you use Google (a skill beyond the ken of the OP, clearly) then you can find it yourself.

I get what your saying. I defy anyone to argue that a dagger used with two hands is as effective as it is one handed.

Two-handers -> DESIGNED to be used two handed, hence a two handed weapon will be better than a one hander.

That being said, one-handers used two-handedly should incur penalties. None of this "split the middle" carp.

all im saying is there should be a perk that modiefies the damage of two handed weapons if your going to have a perk that does the same with one handed weapons

I think it will likely depend on the weapon. ie i dont think you will be able to to use swing a short sword with 2 hands, you might with a long sword, but definately will beable to with a bastard sword

I wonder if having a two-handed weapon has anything to do with genetics?
