V13 Project (aka Fallout MMORPG) Questions

Post » Thu Dec 02, 2010 2:22 am

First let me begin by saying one thing, IT'S ABOUT TIME! I always thought Fallout would make a wonderful MMORPG. There is so much rich content that could be developed for it. If done right it could become the WoW of the SciFi genre.

I have couple of questions that can easily turn into discussion points for the devs to draw ideas from.

Question 1

Will the V13 Project use factions or races when building a character?

I personally really would like to see factions over races. You could have the Brotherhood of Steel, Slavers, Raiders, Super Mutants, Ghouls, and The Enclave. Each faction could have unique class options that make them really distinct but also have some shared classes with other factions that have their own unique twist.

Question 2

Will the V13 world consist of all the major cities and surrounding suburbs in the US or only a couple of major cities within the US?

I would really like to see all the major US cities represented as the V13 world. That really gives the game a lot of flexiblity and room for future expansions. I could see gamesas doing an initial release with 4 or 5 major cities to start and then release more in new expansions. This could represent the starting areas for each faction/race in the game. This also allows to build reputation, either negative or positive, with other cites depending on the deeds you do in the world.

Question 3

Will gamesas ask Bethesda Software to use some of the rich content created in Fallout 3?

I think it would be wise to do so. I mean Bethesda Software breathed life back into the Fallout series with Fallout 3. Fallout 3 has turned on a new generation of gamers who didn't play the orginal series into fans. Furthermore, gamesas retained the rights to an MMOPRG so there is no threat of Bethesda making their own version.

There you have it folks. I look forward to seeing everyone's feedback on my questions.

Thanks

For now, the developers cannot answer any of these questions, since the game has not even been officially announced as Fallout Online (of course we know it can't be anything else, but for some reasons they are not allowed to officially say it).

Anyway, I think gamesas won't be using any of the things introduced by Bethesda in Fallout 3, since as far as I know, their license covers only the content of FO1, FO2, Fallout Tactics and Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel (the latter of which is non-canon anyway). Of course, the makers of V13 will probably still try not to contradict any lore established by Bethesda in their game(s).

As for locations, it's probably very likely that the game won't cover all of the United States, and especially not the East Coast, since that's where Fallout 3 is set and where its sequels are also likely to be set. Therefore, it would be wiser to cover a different part of the country than Bethesda, so that IPLY and Beth can work on their own part of the Fallout world without stepping on each other's toes and possibly contradicting each other if they covered the same areas.

As for classes, I believe that V13 will be using the SPECIAL system, which by its nature is classless, based solely on your tag skills. So no "faction-specific classes". The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

Actually this is not quite correct. I have provided a link below that shows the actual SEC filing from gamesas for the Fallout MMO. Enjoy!

Yes, they had a SEC filing about it back then, but now for some reason they cannot officially announce yet that the MMO they're working on is Fallout Online, even though it's pretty much obvious. It's possible that either Bethesda is somehow blocking it, or they are considering alternatives in the event that Bethesda pulls their license if they do not manage to get enough funds by April.

Note that it still has some stuff like "gamesas fully owns its Intellectual properties", which is not the case anymore, as Fallout is owned by Bethesda. The Vault - Fallout Wiki * Fallout Online * Fallout IRC Channel * Fallout: New Vegas

gamesas retained the rights to a Fallout MMO when it sold Bethesda Software the rights to Fallout. See the article below in the link I provided.

So the "gamesas fully owns its Intellectual properties" quote in the SEC filing is quite accurate since the filing pertains to a Fallout MMO game.

[I really wish gamesas would make a Forum dedicated to the V13 Project aka Fallout MMO. The other thing that really surpises me is I would expect more posts about the Fallout MMO. Perhaps when gamesas actual posts a press release the forum will start buzzing.

I know one thing though for sure. I will be intimately involved in this forum and the Fallout MMO.

It will be time to open a dedicated forum for V13 when we're in a position to actually release some information and talk about it openly.

@phoenixhawk1

They don't own the fallout license in any way, and bethsoft retains some quality control privileges as well as gaining a percentage of income from anything Fallout MMO related. There are some other conditions gamesas has too abide by to get this thing off the ground as welll, but I'm hoping for the best.

I guess Turbine can now be added to the list of competitors.
