I just arrived at Moss Mother Cave for the first time.

Valdr is not outside asking for help. I do a 'player.moveto' and I am moved and placed at the log where he should be but there is no sign of Valdr.

What do I do to get the Moss Mother quest started? I tried 'setstage' but that's no good. I tried creating a new Valdr with 'placeatme' but the new NPC is generic and just walks away.

What else should I try?

Not sure, but I know that quest is buggy. I showed up there before and he just kept yelling for help but I couldn't talk to him, and another time he just wasn't there.

I went into the cave. Cleared it. When I came out, there he was dead on the ground in front of me. I did a 'resurrect' command on him. He popped up full of health, thanked me, and gave me his dagger as a reward.

Looks like I lost only the cave entrance part of the quest. But I got the reward at the end.
