Valenwood n' Elsweyr.

Post » Wed Jun 23, 2010 12:41 pm

Elsweyr: Vast Deserts, ruins from ancient civillisations. Populated with the cat-meri; "it-who-deserts", with their exotic culture and seventeen or more subspecies.
Valenwood: The garden of Tamriel, a mysterious jungle that used to be home to centuars, hippogryffs, satyrs, minotaurs, giants, basilisks, fairy folk, hydra, and intelligient apes (Imga). And Falinesti, of course. The Tree-Sap cannibals with their "Green Pact" and The Wild Hunt.

All of you lorebuffs should know what I'm talking about here. And the reason for listing all these facts up; Isn't it too much?
The current map show you that Cyrodiil is about three times larger than Valenwood. And I saw little, if none diversity. It was all "Cyrodiil".
Valenwood and Elsweyr are too small for that much interesting lore to be there. Elsweyr for an example, it's supposed to be a desert... It's surrounded by a jungle, a river and the Topal Sea...
And what if we get to play in one of the provinces? Everything would be ridiculously crammed together, it would take us 5 seconds to travel to the next city...

I'll pray that the next Dragon Break will make the places a bit more... well, bigger. It doesn't add up, acoording to me.

Opinions, comments?

Game mechanics.

The imperial city according to lore should have thouasands of citizens.
In-game it has less then 100.

I'm sure by the time they get around to valenwood and elyswar the engine will be so good that they can make them huge.
If you compare vvardenfel and cryodil as they appeared on the map then in-game you would realise that the sizes are very wrong indeed.

As i said, game mechanics.

Actually, the Imperial City has a thousand different cults to as many deities, not a thousand citizens. (See Faustillus Junius' http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/shezzardivines.shtml) The population is probably nigh a million or more.

The entire Northwest Territory of Canada looks pretty much the same, but there could be massive diversity in half the landmass. And of course, Cyrodiil was supposed to have more contrast as well.

Even I am willing to chalk this up to game mechanics. Though I will go far in treating in-game evidence as superior to scholastic evidence, each game has been created with a different scale. If you were to draw a map of Tamriel which treated each game's scale as the actual size of each game's province, we'd have to ignore Arena entirely, and High Rock and the northern part of Hammerfall would be massively distended. Daggerfall was implemented on a MASSIVE scale.

you might pray that there are advances in computer hardware that give better processing (including graphics) cooling and storage - an dalso pray that all future OS improvements require a fraction of current resources to achieve the samew results, then pray that game engine improvenments also arrive at the same destination = genuine quantum leap in polygon or new system handling abilities.

Add in digital or better software that achieves anologue effects at the same low level costs as a photo for instance ... an dyou just might get lucky, because then yer average laptop or pc could do it all in style. As is Ibm etc are still struggling to catch up the end quality while attempting to keep the new flexibility.

The people who really benefited have been the devas and the modders - its been a bit hard on players in many ways.

You see the solution to your beef is not Lore, its tech.
