[REL] Vality's Balmora Mod

Post » Wed Jan 06, 2010 11:14 pm

Vality, this is wonderful, you've given Balmora's atmosphere a lot of character and made it much more enjoyable with this mod. :^)

I love it, everything looks beautiful, nothing seems to conflict (I use no Balmora mods), and I didn't experience an FPS hit at all. Here's a screen shot with my view distance pushed to the max using FPS OPT:

http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh23/bycote1/MGEScreenshot1-2.jpg

The Hlaalu textures I use are old-school Darker Morrowind. They've always been some of my favorite textures added by this texture pack, but now I like them even more since their dirtiness and grunge fits in so well with the new Balmora. :^)

Now I have a suggestion that I think would make the ambiance added by this mod much more powerful and immersing - add the Bitter Coast atmospheric sound effects to Balmora! If, for example, the official Bethesda Bitter Coast Sounds mod could somehow be expanded to affect Balmora, that would be awesome. Of course, I know this is far easier said than done - does anyone know if it is even possible?

edit - screen shot corrected

yay :twirl:
thanks vality

As for the odi area addon....could you make it modular instead of just adding it to the balmora one??

i use a tre replacer that i like for that area..... while i like your tree mod it will conflict with that tree mod....

Now, after spending the last ten minutes walking through the town very slowly and pausing pretty much everywhere to enjoy the scenery, I have another suggestion.

I think the river could be made to have a lot more character than it does. Now it's a river running through a swamp, not a bare stone desert! ;^) I think it would look great if moss was clinging to the canol walls, overgrowing over the surrounding ground, and hanging from the bridges.

Beautiful, I love it! Now, if only Fileplanet wasn't having errors again, I'd download it right away.

I really really like this. I've always thought Balmora needed some vegetation, but never thought about bitter-coasting it. It really adds mystery and atmosphere. Thank you Vality!

I'm not completely sure about making Odai river area bitter coast. Somehow i just like the pretty flowers and green grass. The area just before the mine is one of my favorite places in the game. But really, do it if you want to, you might just make the same you did with Balmora. Besides, change has done wonders for my Morrowind world lately.

I love the new Balmora, it's became essential for me. Looks like a different, much more breathing town now, not just a stony wasteland! Really good job.

I just realized my last screen shot was taken using different textures for the leaves than Vality's Bitter Coast textures. Vality's are far superior, so I had to take a new picture. :^)

I love using Balmora Expanded, and related items; so I ran both your mod and those together..!!

There are a few conflicts, and especially will have to use the Expanded terrain, but I think these two might run well together after some adjustments...
I'll take screenshots when I have time to do such things, but great work!

Thanks Vality! it's a great looking mod, going to try it out soon. :)

are by any chance going to do the same treatment for other regions?, or maybe replace the trees in Ascadian Isles with a newer version?

Nevermind, saw you answered it in another thread, Solsthiem with this treatment would be very cool indeed :)

Great work :)

Wow, fantastic trees! They do look more great than the ones you saw I was using =). Are they also like speedtrees or not?
Was I just mistaken thinking you're a guy or is that just Emma Watson?

Oh, yeah, are they also resource?

Ok i made 2 screenies in Balmora, and the dreaded heavy FPS
loss wasn't there. Maybe i lost 2 or 4 FPS, but that still gives
me a FPS of 10 to 15 in Balmora. And personaly i can accept that. :D

(Even more so when it looks like this now. :) )

It's a common error at PES, I get it every so often and I'm also getting it right now. I don't know what the problem is, the download count is going up, so it's working for some. Usually I end up just having to wait a while, sometimes just come back the next day and it's working.

I can offer a temporary download link for now, here - http://www.4shared.com/dir/5766887/a1a5d1f3/Balmora_Mod.html

Uh, thank you for the temp download link, I ran into the same problem, but I had a Drain Intelligence spell active all day long and didn't think about checking the TES Forum...

Your work is BEAUTIFUL, Vality, I like the way originally bland areas (AI&BC&Balmora) were changed by your mods.

Thank you!

Thanks guys, hope you all enjoy it.

I think I will make the next addon modular, an addon for this mod as a seperate download - this will make the region between Balmora and Odai Plateau part of the bitter coast also, bit as I said earlier I might even make the entire Odai River region part of the BC.

So do these trees show up as distant statics with IVD?

No they don't, and it svcks. MGE can't render distant billboards, and for some reason it has trouble making a texture for them and they appear brown. I've gone back to not using distant land and just using FPS Optimizer's 2x view distance.

There seems to be a problem with the download.
When I click on the link to download it I keep getting error messages? Anyone know what's going on? I'd really like to try this one out.

There is an alternate download link above for those who are having problems with PES.

Personally, I'm enjoying it quite a bit. To the point I removed the long-time Vibrant Trees I used to have... I am using various texture packs (a selection I made using about 3-4 packs only for Balmora) and Balmora, BC and AI are looking absolutely wonderful now. If you shave off the grass from OB, I'd say it is not superior visually to MW (at least to what I have now)... I had only one tree out of place, overlapping the Mori Mountain Estate, I moved it in 2 mins such way that now it gives nice "shade" to the roof terrace... :)

Converting the whole Odai valley definitely makes sense: while travelling in Egypt many years ago, I was surprised how green and teeming with life Nile's valley was, only to turn to sandy desert sometimes only a few kms inland... Good luck with it - can't wait for the release!

The trees are a resource, I don't want anyone using the old trees as a resource. If you don't like the new leaf texture then make your own, but use these trees as they are better quality than the old ones.

I hope I'm not being a badger by saying this again. But is there any chance that the river could get some more attention? In addition to the clinging moss I mentioned earlier, I think a few lily pads would look good on the water. :^)

And what about atmospheric sound effects? To me, sound is almost as large a factor in setting mood and ambiance as visuals are - does anyone know how, for example, Bethesda's Bitter Coast mod could be expanded to affect Balmora?

I've got to put this in. I need to play Morrowind again now. Balmora, for the secondary 'big city' of the game, seemed way too boring. Love it now. Actually am using Screenshot 1 as my desktop wallpaper now. Pretty. :)

Well I don't really want to make it dependant on Bethesda's BC mod as not everyone uses it - but it would be as simple as placing a few new sound markers across Balmora, very easily done.

As for the river, if I make an Odai River region addon, I will add to the river with that mod. I did put a little bit of moss and lily pads around the southern bridges.
