I wouldn't mind seeing them, and I doubt the Nord mythology has been thoroughly established by the lore in previous games.

No, that doesn't make sense at all. The Golden Saints keep peace in Shivering Isles, Valkyries are not peace keepers. Golden Saints are NOTHING like Valkyries, in fact, they don't have one single thing in common other than being women. I doubt you even know the first thing about Norse mythology.

But, I do . . . hence the original question.

First, I respect what I'm assuming is your heritage. Forgive me if I'm wrong.

You're right: Valkyries - as depicted in Norse mythology and literature (e.g. the Prose Edda) - are very different from Golden Saints . . . which is why I probably didn't make the connection between the two in the first place. I've been mesmerized by the mythology of Valkyries ever since the first time I saw a Peter Arbo painting.

Unfortunately, we're not talking about historically accurate Norse mythology and literature. We're talking about a game that already has a woman with a shield and a helmet with wings on it. And while you might dispute the historic reality of that winged helmet (and be correct in doing so), many, many artistic, literary, poetic and musical representations of Valkyries in the past 200 years have included that helmet - to the point that, for many who are not as familiar with Norse mythology as you are, a woman with a spear, a shield, and that winged helmet will produce a Pavlovian response of "Valkyrie."

One artist who has deviated from that characteristic image is Peter Nicolai Arbo, a Norwegian artist I referenced above and whose work I've studied in college. Arbo painted http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/ca/Ingeborg%2C_peter_nicolai_arbo.jpg, a woman whose face I've tried several times - unsuccessfully - to create in Oblivion.

Dan's point is simply that Golden Saints represents what popular culture has "branded" Valkyries to be. It's not fair to what Valkyries represent - Golden Saints in Morrowind were, after all, evil enemies - but there you have it.

I, obviously, would like to see a Valkyries in Skyrim, as I think this would be the last best time to introduce them. But I see that a great number of people assume Golden Saints are the TES version of Valkyries . . . and so it's probably not going to happen.

Sovngarde kind of reminds me of Valhalla, but I am not aware of any Valkyries. However, valliant Nords are offered a comely maidens hand.
