Valton: The New Hold, OOC & Sign-Up Thread IX

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 1:44 am

I think NPC interaction might get slightly in the way of player to player interaction. In addition, Valton is already the biggest city in Skyrim if you count its population.

But I guess we could introduce some NPCs, if it adds something to the town.

In-game Skyrim is only representative of real Skyrim. It is customary to set RPs in the later. Solitude really is a world-city, not a tiny castle with the population of a hamlet. I take your point though, we do have rather a lot of PCs here. There are as many NPCs as the story requires. Even with all the characters we have, Valton's infrastructure is no where near complete.

Edit: Both Leandra and Titus could be pointed to the mercenary house after the Fiona quest-thing is done, so they have a permanent house in Valton.

I think Jormaw might ask Leandra if she'd like to stay and be his shack buddy. Heh, that's if the two don't get along like him and Alguidar.

So if Leandra can't get down to any mercenary work, she could always help Jormaw out with his fishing, like Jacqueline does with Alguidar's farming.

That's completely fine too. But it might be a bit too crowded inside a small shack, especially if Leandra wants "personal space". A mercenary house meant for 5 people would give her quite a lot of the personal space ;)

Oh and prisoner six, if your character wants work. Danus would gladly hire you to help in his mission of spreading Imperial influence in Valton.

Alright, when your character is ready, just find Titus and talk to him. He's just outside the Valton keep, waiting for the guard Captain to calm down.

It's not small, small. After all it's defined as an apartment. However it's rounded, so if anything, it'd be like living in an orc longhouse.

Which kinda goes hand in hand with the yurt shape description.

Keep in mind Leandra has auditory and olfactory hallucinations, whistles loudly to herself and swings without warning from pretty friendly to violently enforcing her right to solitude. She's not the best shack buddy ever :P

Besides, she already has a few extra options lined up if mercenary work doesn't work out in Valton. Like being a bard. Or a fake priest.

I'd think Jormaw would put up with it easily. After all he'd have past experience with sleeping around mercenaries which fart, barf, laugh hysterically and drink insensately. Leandra is a tame puppy in comparison. And hell, she'd be a pretty good fisherwoman, with that hooked arm providing a good reach for fishing prey.

I'll try and get a post in tonight. I've been rather distracted with RL right now. I'm getting ready to go on a trip down south to West Palm Beach as well as a few other things.

A note to PFA - Fiona's mage tower is a part of Gudslott Hall, not outside of it. The only entrance is through the keep itself. While one could walk around it by going outside, you would have to re-enter Gudslott Hall to get inside. There is an image I posted in the mod thread that shows the actual position of Fiona's home.

Maybe because Leandra's 'considering/evaluating things' state of mind is a rip off homage to the Salarian doctor. :P

Hasty fix implemented. Thank the Nine for oddness allowing an excuse for her to walk around the tower even if there was no door there.

I hope that RP post is alright. Wasn't sure what the designs for the daedra happenings in the tower were, so I gave a guess and said Vaermina.

If Vincent or Anticlere ain't alright with it, I'll change the post. Just thought I'd mention it before Gorbad comes in with his stick of disapproval.

The post is indeed a little off, I'm sorry Daroska. PFA has the brief for what is in the tower, and a daedroth isn't any part of it. Also worth noting that if Jormaw took the full brunt of that trap-spell, he would certainly be dead before he hit the ground (we shall assume he did not). Considering you've already written in there being a daedroth in her study, I suppose we can assume it is a guardian Fiona bound to the place as extra protection, in case the door-trap failed (not completely out of character for her). While we are at it, lets call it a Clanfear. The creature will disappear upon death.

In the future send me a PM before you assume-in any daedra. I'm the GM chiefly in charge of Oblivion's influence on Valton, though Gorbad is pretty much always up to date with were we are taking things, if I'm not around. I'll let this one slide, but next time it is the Vinny-stick of disapproval. A feared stick.

PFA? oh you mean the mod thread's photos? I never use those for reference. It kinda restricts the creativity to in-game definitions.
Which brings onto another point- we should have a locale guide (a spoiler in the OP that describes the different exteriors and interiors).
That way people can just go to the OP and look up a building's layout to use for their character's perception. What do you think?

As well- Jormaw didn't take the full brunt of the spell. He had casted a absorption spell and was also of the Atronach sign.
The only damage would of been extremely minimum. This I tryed to imply in the post, but it seems people might of overlooked a few details.
However, I'll edit the clannfear in for you, if you wish. But know that I only added the daedroth in to make the scene a little bit more tense.

Lastly the stick of disapproval is only Gorbad's tool. Someone else using it is like Frodo using the One Ring, yeah it might work a little but not at it's best.

PFA = Person from Anticlere.

As for the exterior and interior desription; It sounds like an easy enough thing to do, but that'd mean somene (I wonder who that might be) would need to read through the detailed posts of those places from all the old RP-threads. But for example Hela's foly interior doesn't need to be thought of as something specific. It's pretty much up to your own imagination as a reader and writer, it's an inn. It has some tables and some chairs etc.
But of course, in the case of the tower it's pretty important to know where the entrance is if you plan on visiting the place.

Tell you what. The onwer of houses should post the description, as short as they can, in a PM to me and I'll edit in them in the original post, along with the descripton of other places that I can write about in-detail (such as the guard barracks, Gorbad's forge). Sounds good?

Hmm, I can't just ignore the stick of disapproval though. So let's assume it looks something like wabbajack with a fishy stick at the end.

Oh and while I still remember this; What should we do about the steward / magistrate?
Spoiler
Name: Staron Macawlake
Age: 48
Race: Redguard-(Father was a breton)
Gender: Male
Height: 5’8”
Birthsign: The Serpent

Appearance: He's quite a short redguard, with more pale skin than most. He has a slightly aged face with a few wrinkles. His hair is still black, although it has been pushed back over the years, revealing a large amount of his forehead. He has his hair cut short. He has small, green eyes and a straight, sharp nose. He doesn’t look too friendly when he has a neutral face on.

Class: Steward / Magistrate

Skills: The Serpent has made Staron quite cold-hearted, to the point where it’s impossible to tell what he feels about a situation. He can move quietly and chooses to do so whenever he walks, often surprising anyone he’s about to speak to if he approaches from behind. He can also disappear in a crowd, which allows him to effectively tail anyone; both in crowded cities and empty streets, (A skill that has served him well in the past, but has limited usefulness in his current position.)
In addition, he is a master at reading people, something that has proven invaluable in his position as a magistrate and steward.

Clothing / armor: Staron wears a fine outfit of the latest fashion. The dark brown color is almost black and the deep green patterns match his eyes. He has a pair of reading glasses hanging in a chain around his neck.
Weapons: He carries only a small, hidden dagger, and he has a scroll of mass-invisibility for emergencies. If he’d activate it, he and anyone within a few feet would turn invisible for a full minute.

Miscellaneous items: Apart from the dagger, scroll and his reading glasses, he has pens and paper with him wherever he goes.

Personality: Staron is rarely happy and when he is, he doesn’t show it, truly a cup-is-half-empty kind of person. He is very sarcastic and hardy ever gives compliments to others.
Major flaw: His lack of skills in combat is perhaps his biggest flaw. He doesn’t easily make friends, even if he tried to.

Background: Staron was raised in Hammerfell by his redguard mother and breton father. His mother wanted him to be a great warrior, while his father wanted him to be a mage or scholar. Staron, however, wasn’t interested in either of those plans. Instead, he soon forgot the things his parents had taught him and became interested in law and legal issues instead. His parent gave up and paid for his education, where he learned to separate right from wrong in many theoretical situations.

He continued studying laws and legal matters his entire life, but also snapped in a few useful talents on the way. He learned how to follow people unseen, step silently and read people like open books. He was an excellent addition to the highly secret inquisition of the stormcloaks for a few years when he was thirty. All of them wore masks at all times in the inquisition, so his race wasn't a problem. Instead, they came to value his skills quite highly. However, the inquisition was wiped out down to the very last member by imperials when Staron was thirty four years old, but he managed to escape without anyone knowing his true name or how he looked.

It was impossible to connect him to the stormcloak-inquisition, but he decided not to take any chances. Instead, he moved to Cyrodiil, where he briefly came in contact with the Spurvhauke shipping company. It was years later that he heard Radwulf, the owner of the shipping company, had bought land west of Riften and set up a new hold. With many years since the inquisition incidence, Staron decided it was safe to move back to Skyrim. There, he got the job of magistrate and steward in the new hold of Valton.

Edit#666: I think Disturbing's character should stay inside Nuramon's house until the next morning. Asap's character had a much less serious wound and has been quite a long time there, completely knocked out at that.

Name: Windre Macawlake
Age: 48
Race: Nord-(Father was a breton)
Gender: Male
Height: 5’9”

Appearance: He is very short for his race, a heritage from his bretonic father, but is just as strong as any nord. He has a slightly aged face with a few wrinkles. PM sounds like a little too much work and yes before you say, we are all lazy slobs! don't deny it.
How about just we post the description here in a spoiler box then you can go off and do your editing, hm?

Oh by the way, Gorbad. Would you mind making your steward a redguard?
Valton looks to be of a loss of a redguard populace (other than the newcomer, of course).
And I can't help but think a male redguard steward would be an interesting prospect for a character design.
