Yes, I stated that in my post. I said that the steward would probably tear his face off if he had to count 1000 coins for every citizen in Valton.
Also, it's not changing the economy, and it's not an overhaul. It's a modification to the current system of currency to allow things to be more practical and logical.
Imagine having the pay for something with 1000 pennies. We did a penny drive for my school's Beta Club a few weeks ago and we had to count and roll $700.00 worth of pennies. It took 8 people close to 7 hours to finish 3/4th's of the work. It's tedious and a real pain in the ass.
It makes much more sense to modify the current currency system to be more practical than to stick to what the games do. Yes in the game there's only one form of currency, but can you just imagine you're character carrying around 35,000 gold pieces? That would weigh more than all the rest of his items put together. He'd need a team of pack mules to carry it all. However, in the game you can have upwards of 100,000 gold and not be encumbered one bit by it. Not to mention transactions take place instantaneously in the game, even when the items being sold are upwards of 1000 gold.
The currency system is a borderline game mechanic in my opinion. Yes it plays an essential part in lore, and in the game it works good. However, in a situation like an RP, where things don't run on absolutes and set values, this system becomes cumbersome and impractical as well as unrealistic.
The change would also be very minor. It's not like we're changing every bit of lore ever written about TES.
