Valton: The New Hold, OOC & Sign-Up Thread #XV

Daikanos is an extremely narrow minded mer, so... He'd put them all in flames. I'm sorry but firstly you should have let me react to the puch by simply stepping backwards, blocking it and maybe rethrowing one of his own. And going through chainmail and leather with a dagger? This is not Ingame where you slash with daggers like you do with swords.

I can see alot of different outcomes to this event, but they all differ in the way how tired Daikanos is. he'd simply order the guards to chop of their heads. Blame it on adrenaline if you want but used to be a royal guard and now guard captain he hates people that don't respect guards. Also the reason why he acted up when an imperial was threatening a guard at the start of the rp.

You've been reading ASoIaF haven't you JD?

No idea what you're talking about! ;)

But in reality though, if you're talking about the GoT book, I haven't read any of them yet, unfortunately, just watching the series (I caught up on every episode last Friday and watched the new episode at 3AM Monday morning with a 9am class I had to attend). Yes, I did steal a tiny bit from it, but only because Snow is a bad*** and I liked the idea, haha.

Is the jarl insane? why did he let such a xenophobic, angry mer in a guard position in the first place?

If you aren't willing to be forthcoming with Daikanos for this, then better he's knocked out.
Don't worry, he can get his revenge once they're in prison. Throw them a kick or punch them.
You can even sentence them to death by execution, so long as the jarl intervenes and allows them to go free.

Whatever you feel would be appropriate for Daikanos. So how does that trade sound? Mr. Gavril. :turned:

Firstly, we need Urgoc to survive this event, with Skarc and Khagra here.

Again, not to be rude, but that is something that you want to happen, not that we need. The attitude of having your characters to extreme and ridiculous things, forcing everyone else in the RP to have to bend over backwards and make their own characters break character so that you get what you want, is simply not how to go about RPing. Ideally of course we all want everything to go fine and our characters to not end up getting killed off, but part of this is using common sense and not forcing everyone else to clean up your mess. It's rude.

That said you are right about the punch. You at least Rped that correctly, describing the intention behind the punch and its force, but not the result. It doesn't save it from being a really really stupid idea. :P As to why the Jarl hired a violent, bloodthirsty Dunmer for Captain of the Guard: well, he was very very well qualified, and the Jarl needed an appointment fast. That said, Daikanos' behaviour in the short time he's held in that position has already made it rather likely he might be fired. TBH, Daikanos' handling of this very situation might be what saves his job.

I don't think you're helping your case much. The simple fact is that you acted and posted the result without giving the other person an attempt to respond. You gave him no chance whatsoever, and that doesn't go well with the generally agreed-upon, unwritten conduct of good role-playing, which implies that if you write an action that directly influences or interacts with another player's character, you leave it open-ended so they decide the result, and it is their responsibility, as a good role-player, to make the result at least semi-realistic.

These complaints aren't new, Daroska. I felt the same about the way you RPed the situation on the farm when they first met. I rolled with it and didn't give it too much importance but you're setting a pattern here. I love your writing and your creativity but sometimes I think you're just in a different wavelength. I don't know if you do this intentionally or not but you should listen to the GMs for a change instead of dragging this on and on.

What's so wrong about editing your post to fix the mess you caused?

agreeing with the above. I'm not planning to be forthcoming I am just imagining some different outcomes, all ending not so well for the orcs. Would the jarl go see the bandits and be like "oh yeah, you know what? I'll sell you some land and let you work on it. All's forgotten and forgiven. I'll forget you guys harrased and killed some people on the roads." And this time it is an actual guard that got attacked.

Very much this. In terms of writing you are one of my favourite people on here. I love Jormaw and his antics, reading your posts with him is always a pleasure. When you do something unexpected and uncouth with him it is generally a fun read. But time and time again you almost seem to be deliberately making it hard for everyone around you. I'm sure you don't do it on purpose, but that is the way it comes off. Really, I don't want to gang up on you with people, but please utilise some of that lack of pride you were going on about, and show a little humility? It would be a shame to lose you in this RP.

Name: Saron Valor

Age: 25

Race: Half Nord, half Imperial

Gender:Male

Height: 6,0

Birthsign: the steed

Appearance: blond hair, six feet tall, whitish skin not exactly tan but not paper white either, dark blue eyes,
muscular enough to wield a two handed battle ax, heavy armor and not stumble or fall over.

Class (what would you describe your character as?): warrior

Skills and known spells (if any): only one spell lightning bolt, taught by an old mentor(will explain in background),
able to smith steel, iron, and dwarven armor and weapons, VERY powerful with a one handed war axe, strong enough to lift trees for wood or to assist in building things.

Clothing / armor: wearing normal clothes not any armor but if need be able to wear any armor

Weapons: carrying one steel war axe on his back, put away, not concealed but able to be pulled out if need be

Miscellaneous items: carrying only one gold ring of unknown effect seemingly magical

Personality: very passive, thick-skinned, not easy to anger but once angered difficult to calm down, will mostly laugh and call people stupid when they are being stupid

Major flaw: has trouble sleeping, searching for something in desperation (explained in background)

Background: a younger stronger male with a Nord father and Imperial mother. He is cursed to constantly wear a gold ring which causes him to turn into a werewolf when he becomes truly angry. Only a extreme rage will cause him to turn into the beast. He is searching for a cure across all of nirn( if you didn't know the planet the elder scrolls takes place on) in just a few years of life he has traveled all of Cyrodiil. He is trying to find Argonians from black marsh OR Khajiit from Elsweyr to learn about were-gators and were-lions. His search has brought him to the evolving hold of Valton. The old mentor I mentioned earlier was just that, whilst learning combat of heavy armor and war axes his mentor passed one thing to just Saron. the knowledge of lightning, it isn't a very powerful spell but it has saved him on multiple occasions. He is very combat oriented from his experience as a wanderer, dealing with bandits and on one occasion a dragon which he may or may not talk about.Would be use full as an assistant of anyone but more so to a builder or constructor, or a guard instructor possibly a watch captain possibly even the jarl's personal guard (though im sure he wont trust some stranger) but i already know these are taken but from what im reading may or may not be open soon.

typically, Gorbad will handle that. but if it's for something simple I doubt he'd mind if you handled it yourself. might want to make sure though.

You are allowed to take control of a normal guard for a small amount of time, if it is just for things like being asked for directions. That said, I heartily would not recommend going to Gudslott Hall where the Jarl is right now, as there is a bit of a...scene, outside :P.

I sincerely hope this is cleared up before we move on to mid-day, because I really don't want Gawain to get into that. :lmao:

You're going to have to speak with he Jarl about those but, like McCool said, it's not the best time now with whats going on outside. Have a wonder round town, strike up conversation with one of the other characters standing around. Something to keep you busy RP-wise while that scene finishes

If you've got something worth saying to Roymund, i'd be happy to hear it ;)
Though he is in mid-conversation with two Argonians so it could be alittle awkward.

Perhaps visit the local General store to stock up on rations, or drop off at the Inn for a sit down, even visit the chapel though the priest is not there.

Problem is, that person is the Jarl . You can try and go visit him now if you like, and I can RP a guard too, but honestly right now even getting near the Jarl is looking to be very difficult. There is likely to be a fight breaking out between his guard and some..er..strange orcs with a giant caterpillar right now. Don't ask.

EDIT:

Mhund is right, maybe going off to visit the general store or the inn would be a good idea. Sorry about this :P

Just a point, when I next post (maybe tonight) my rather large khajiit will be walking straight into this fight. More a warning than a point. Or perhaps a threat.

Seeming as I am now in a happy mood (not a beat Vincent McCool over the head because he does one thing and says the other- mood),
I'll try to configure my mindset according to you people's ideals. However, I don't feel it's fair when people pin that I'm always like a stubborn mule.
Twice I've tryed to settle a deal with you guys for this event, but instead of even trying to attempt an anti-deal, you just criticise what I say.

It's really hard for me to drive home a plot point (to the wolf story) when people are removing the chance through their own ideas.
I think Vincent can relate to this well, especially for the tower story and how I got the little team to tackle a clannfear, even when it worked against
the story. Currently I'm just trying to roleplay two angry orcs, who've come out of a butchery, while still constricting them to get to a certain area.

The area being that they tell the jarl about the incident, as well as getting land in return for the jarl's negligence (or his captain) in his patrols.
Now tell me: you're an orc who's nearly been killed by a pack of wolves, had his quarry escape, lost his WHOLE caravan due to his slothfulness..
And now is getting insulted by a dunmer, as well as a guard, being told to 'wait' by some imbecile lowlander, what the hell would you do?

Taking in the rough, mountaineering background you come from, you wouldn't just say "ok." I mean you're the brother to the chieftan of Whin-Skur!
If I was Urgoc or Khagra, I'd slaughter the whole pathetic keep and sit upon the throne for their idiocy in orc affairs. Show them how to be respectful.
Orcs don't just hang about, let someone push them over. Especially not a knife-ear or a lowlander, you'd expect them to fight to the very end.

Now to clear some discrepancies: the knife was a marking knife and I've recently just tested one on a piece of chain. Yes, the guard can get castrated.
The blade itself is of a very tough metal and with enough force can punctuate through most metal. Scale mail in itself has one notable flaw: flexibility.
With the right angle, one can pierce past the plate scales, between the gap and through the chain. So yeah, it can work, everyone. It's plausible.

Next- I've got a reasonable solution to this overall event that I'd like to suggest. Daikanos takes the hit, Varyn notices all of this and decidely gets
bored of all of this hold ups. Mass paralysis to the rescue! Urgoc, Khagra, Skarc survive, Daikanos survives, guard is castrated- everybody happy.
What happens after that, we'll just see. Can we not? come on, this is my last suggestion. If it doesn't work, I'll just have to think of some crazy edit.

On second thoughts I'm going to wait for all this ^ crap to get sorted out before I consider a post.

In other news, Dr. Strangelove I'm going to be sending my other char your way, with the idea of scoping your boat out and potentially lining it up for a raid, I wanted to give you plenty of warning about such actions as I promised to do when I took up a thief character.

I don't know what language they speak in Skyrim so I just called it Nordic. It is probably similar to Cyrodiilic anyway.

everybody happy.
I think the castrated guard would beg to differ...
