Valton: The New Hold, OOC & Sign-Up Thread #XIII

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 7:33 pm

I bet Skarpi disappeared because one of the Daedric Princes wante their own personal crazy barkeep :tongue:

If that's the deal with all of the disappearences in Hela's Folly, then I can't help but think Sarynetta will end up as Sanguine's skimpy barmaid.

:tongue:

Hmm, WITYM: I think Danus should get a shipment with more gold (from the legion in solitude) or something if you're going to keep handing over such huge amounts of gold for such simple tasks. It's just weird with his infinite money-pool :biggrin:

However, since Danus hasn't actually succeeded in his mission, his source of money could be cut off. Just an idea :smile:

Yes.

I would like to add that 1000 gold (just using it as a number as I haven't read you post yet) would be like the life savings of a better off peasant. It's not like in-game Skyrim were every little task nets you 500 gold. That's just a little ridiculous. :P

Hey Gorbad, I think it's best to inform your orc that he himself is also an elf before he starts this whole prejudice thing he had going in that last post. :tongue:

EDIT: Also, can we use Illusionary's rules for dialogue and thought? It would be much easier to read posts and have a sort of general rule for dialogue.

Normal speech is in the normal font. For example: "I went to the store today. What did you do Bob?"

Thoughts are italicized: I think I might go to the store today.

Telepathic speech is in bold: "Bob, I'm in your head...talking to you."

Asap, they can be an orc and still hate other elves. Besides, Torpal the Pilot's account depicts them as otherwise. :tongue:

I dont personally see the need for a general rule for type of speech, If it was to be enforced i'd likely forget and would cause further confusing due to the way i do speech.

Bold = Talking aloud
Italic = Thoughts
Basic = everything else.

And i do appologise for my latest posts shortness, but i didnt really have much to say. ;)

well, I kindof follow Asap on speech.

Basic: talking aloud
italic: thoughts

never had to talk telepathically so I'll follow asap on that if it is necessary.

I've never bolded speech and I'm not going to start now. (That sounds more stubborn than I wanted it to)

However in my posts bold text is J'Shar communicating with his mind, anyone else is unable to hear it.

Yeah, I don't find it nescessary to bold speech. I actually find it to be a bit distracting. I like how telepathy is in bold, though.

Look, its me again. Sorry I can't RP right now, but I'm trying my best to keep up with this thread. Still hating on Plato. (I love philosophy, just not this guy).

RE: Speech, Asap has it exactly right. Spoken dialogue should not be in bold. The only exception, is the use of bold text for the speech of the previous poster's character, if you like to quote passages when writing a dialogue. Personally I don't do this, but using bold for that purpose to make it obvious the character isn't yours is accepted, as it does serve a purpose.

RE: Coinage, tbh having certain coins actually being pure gold so hundreds of drakes is okay. Another idea is using diamonds and other gems as representative of large amounts of currency. You are free to do as you like on this, Valton does not have any strict rules on how the coin system works that we are enforcing.

Personally, I like speech in bold. Bold is kinda special because it pops out and I feel like, if something should stand out, it should be spoken dialog and not telepathic speech. Still, it's just a matter of personal taste, I'll use Illusionary's rules from now on.

Regardless, because I see different formats, I always try to describe what's happening. i.e. "said Alguidar" or "He thought."

Yes.

I would like to add that 1000 gold (just using it as a number as I haven't read you post yet) would be like the life savings of a better off peasant. It's not like in-game Skyrim were every little task nets you 500 gold. That's just a little ridiculous. :tongue:

I agree. Since this is all relative, I think of it in terms of housing prices. If 1000 is the price of a cheap house, 500 for a simple assignment kinda distorts the economy. You could buy all of Valton after a few days.

Not that the economy needs to be spot on but I think the housing pricing is a useful reference.

Two. A note of interest, neither me or Gorbad started this RP. First off the original GM asked me to help out, and I did, and later when he left and I was running it on my own, I got Gorbad in to help. So it is neither of ours baby. Sort of a labour of love keeping this thing going.

And... because this isn't said enough (if ever) you two did a fantastic job. This RP has been a blast since I joined :biggrin:

Keep it up!

Jackie woke up around five thirty and has been working for 3-4 hours so the way I see it the time at the farm is about ten o'clock.

Edit: Roymund got sick from cursed rockjoint piss. That's how the wolves are planning to take us all down :P

the current events list seems alright.

Note that the potions Nuramon used weren't expensive. They just aren't cheap. And the ones used for Theseus were more expensive than the ones he used on Roland. :) Theseus having a hole in his abdomen and stuff :P

There's something crucial missing from the OP.

'Alguidar and Roymund's bromance crosses the boundaries of civil war factions as they begin to realize they are drawn to one another.'

I just want to let everyone know that I'll be going into more detail about the individual crew members in my next post, before reaching Valton. But not enough to warrant a CS of their individual own. I just don't want them to seem like simple 2D NPC's, if/when others come into contact with them, and I want it to be clear exactly what each individual crew member is (race wise, etc.) so everyone knows and is clear on it.
