Valton: The New Hold, OOC & Sign-Up Thread #XIV

Post » Fri May 04, 2012 3:55 am

That being said, I'm more than willing to set up a Valton OOC Skype group, or even a TeamSpeak group were we can chat and not have to worry about cluttering the thread. That should solve the Off topic problem while maintaining the friendly atmosphere.
If things go that way I have another forum set up that those of us writing for winterhold to discuss without you guys seeing it. Not sure about the advertising rules though so I won't post a link just yet.

Anyway Dr. Stranglove I was asking mostly because I was thinking of sending my character down to snoop around a little.

That's fine Athell, my next post was just going to be Ulfgar, Durn, and Gert heading into Valton to find any possible work for them (legit or not). Your guy would just find Rahd and Luther watching out on the cargo-less boat, if you post while the other three are away.

Hmmmm. What to do with Jormaw now... as I was going to have him follow Leandra around for awhile, but I guess that idea has become void.
Either I could try and settle accounts with Alguidar & Co. or go into town to find some new events to brew about, maybe with Itan-Ru or the newcomers.

Daroska, the matter isn't up for debate. Rohugh said to cut the crap, so that's what we're going to do. This is Bethesda's forum, and they have their own rules. It's our privilege to be able to post and communicate on the forum as a whole, not our right. It's comparable to this being Todd Howard's house and us being his guests. I doubt you would walk into his house, sit in his recliner, and tell him what you're going to do and not do. It's rude and disrespectful. The forum has rules and the moderators enforce them, it's common courtesy to respect what they have to say and follow it. If you don't want to follow their rules then you don't have to stick around. I suggest not bringing up the matter again before Rohugh finds his way back in here. He's a good moderator and a nice guy, but he doesn't take crap. When he says to do something, it's best to do it and not argue.

I agree that the off-topic crap needs to stop. I come home every afternoon and have to read through at least 3 pages of posts before I'm caught up. It doesn't help when half of it is nonsense that doesn't pertain to the RP.

That being said, I'm more than willing to set up a Valton OOC Skype group, or even a TeamSpeak group were we can chat and not have to worry about cluttering the thread. That should solve the Off topic problem while maintaining the friendly atmosphere.

Asap, the matter is up for debate. Anything is up for a debate as long as someone has a voice. I don't sit idly by and don't bother to try to change things.
Effects are not given to those whom fear much or conjure little. I do things that other people don't like to do. That is just my nature and it won't change.

But no, this isn't a house of Todd Howard's. This is a house of Bethesda as a whole and their fanbase or to those whom deem themselves to come here.
When someone puts enough time or effort into something, in my opinion, they have the right to give their respective response whether they own it or not.

That in itself is greatly similar to a current debate over the ending of the game, Mass Effect 3. Even if it may seem like not or like so, it is to me from my study.
Why? because both topics share the topic of Ownership vs Dedication, Developers vs Fanbase. It's a wide and deep cavernous territory which has terrible bias.

So in my opinion it isn't rude or disrespectful when you walk into Todd Howard's house and say "No thank you, Todd. I would like to have a seat on that chair."
You are giving a view, not letting the big man walk all over you, because if you do- you're just a sheep. A person who complies with everything, a Yes Man.

I respect the rules of this forum as much as I can. However, when rules go against their concept - to work for the people, protecting them as well as help them.
I'd wish to make people know that maybe with a little change to give better adjustment, people could be happier here. And isn't that better for Bethesda as a whole?

If this Rohugh is as good and is as fair as you make him out to be, then I'm sure he'd at least take in this view as to benefit Bethesda, not trying to hurt it.

You could always come and help me move this lame horse to the stables. Once Itan-Ru responds, I can start the process of moving this very large beast. LOL

Leandra isn't forbidding Jormaw from following her around or anything of the sort (nor could she really be bothered to attempt to stop him even if that had been her intent and he followed anyway); she's simply expecting him to have a life and stuff. If you want him to follow her around a bit longer (to her slight chagrin eventually I suspect, since more permanent company tends to result in a mood swing being inbound), by all means, I won't protest extra interaction.

If you truly want to change something then take it up with GStaff. Arguing your point here doesn't further your cause. It's pretty much like saying "I think people in America should drive on the left hand side of the road, so, until they all start doing it, I'm going to drive on the left hand side of the road."

Anyways, I'm done discussion it since it's derailing this thread.

Daroska, this is a roleplaying fan-fiction on an internet forum for a fantasy computer game. While the battle for the freedom of speech is no doubt a noble one, I wouldn't exactly call this the front line. The stakes here could not possibly be lower. There isn't much point trying to project the ills of society into an online writing club for Elder Scrolls geeks. The issues here are totally local, by conflating them with other, wider issues you do a disservice to both and end up sprouting totalitarian doctrine yourself. Level with me here, on a philosophical level, c'mon. :P

That said I do agree the friendliness is a big part of Valton. It is probably why most of us are still here. That said, the horse pun conversation did cross the line. Some of us are very, very busy, are working long days and coming home to only having a short amount of time to write up responses for this RP. It is a matter of courtesy, nothing more, not to spam up the OOC thread so it cannot exercise its original function. There are no absolutes to be brought into this argument, the fact of the matter is, it would be better for everyone if we spammed here a little less.

Rohugh is a completely separate matter. He has the unenviable job of trying to keep this whole forum together, and he can only do his job properly if we do as he says and help him out. If he does something that you don't disagree with, bring it up with him directly, or with someone higher up if you really think it is worth possibly getting a man into trouble over. The only absolute that should ever be in your mind is human decency, and trying to be as fair to everyone as possible. No-one is trying to oppress you. This is a [censored] fan-fiction forum for a fantasy computer game.

I'm sorry if I've been blunt with you, but that is the end of the matter. Making a loud noise and complaining isn't going to help anyone, yourself least of all. This whole forum is a collaborative effort that relies on good will to keep going. If you have a chip on your shoulder about authority, take it outside. The reason these people are in the position they are, is because they honestly want to help everyone use and enjoy this forum well. Rudeness and petulance aren't helping anyone out here.

Geez, I feel like I just gave a kid a lecture in school. I'm sorry for the tone. The last thing I ever want to do is make someone feel uncomfortable or unwelcome, especially in an environment like this. But continually causing trouble and starting arguments for no reason than your own pride, and a strange teleological fixation with solving outside issues in a fan-fiction forum, causes headaches and drama for everyone. In the name of common decency and niceness, please desist. I guess that is something like a warning.

Well I actually plan on having Nuramon wake up near midday. Bad sleep, waking up all the time and stuffs. But feel free to have Roland ake up earlier, prepare breakfast, go to store to buy provisions, ... He could be his servant :) It's up to you really. Do as you please. I don't even mind if you wake Nuramon up although you might have to wait on the response since I'm about to go to bed.

To think, Making a few puns has caused these problems. Geez, i feel like such an ass..

Seriously, I agree that that conversation did end up more as needless spam and therefore offer my appologies.

I agree to disagree on all matters of this mundane, controlled topic. I've already made my points clear and will ignore Vincent's degrading, rude threat with authority.
But take this: I am just to trying to respect people's opinions and help others. When that is seen as a bad thing then I really don't what is up with people's perception.
I'll heed Gorbad's personal approach to me and drop this conversation, however I did not intend to continue it. I was merely defending my own argument, you see.

And one last thing: I am not prideful. I don't how many times people have said this to me and I've responded back, "I am just stubborn with a touch of disdain."
Do not confuse the tactic of dramatising posts to gain more attention as pride. Exaggeration can often be used to make a point or even give ideals relevance.
When I appear prideful, it is merely a lump of conviction throwed into a cauldron with some door-to-door salesman skills to make a strong point of capture in posts.

Ahem, it appears I'm a getting little too off-topic, as well as repeating a bad mixture. Excuse I monsieur, as I retreat to my supposed backstage scriptual direction.

On-topic: Still no answers to my questions? fine then, I'll just have to figure them all out by myself, as per the usual course of events.

Appearance: Amphodil has a shaved head, he has a brown beard that hangs a little bit over his chin. and a dark black hand print tattoo on his left side of his face. His face is a lighter bluish, his face is a little bit worn from traveling. His voice sounds like the Dark Elves in Morrowind. He is very tall and lean. His chest also has many Televanni style tattoo's that cover it.

Background: Amphodil was born in Balmora, Morrowind. He is apart of the house Televanni. (Sorry if misspelled.) Valton could indeed use some full-time guards. I must ask this question though: Are you familiar with what kind of RP Valton is?

I just read the information at the top of this thread and this RP looks to be like the Welcome to Grayditch RP over in the fallout section, which i was in for a time.

p.s. Should I read the earlier threads?

it might be a good idea to read the earlier threads, but its not entirely necessary due to the story synopsis at the beginning of the RP threads

No, not yet. You need to have a GM (GorbadPS3 or VincentMcCool) accept the sheet before you can post in the RP thread.
Just a few notes to your sheet: You should put more detail into the various sections of the sheet so we can get a better idea of what he's like.

Like appearence (what is his skin colour? what is body build like?), skills and known spells (is healing supposed to be alchemy? restoration? medical?),
clothing / armour (what do the robes look like?), weapons (what is the sword or staff made of?), miscellaneous items (what books are these? can you note them down?),
major flaw (is 'stealth / pick pocketing' mean that he's a thief of some sort?), background (could use a lot more detail, especially how he came to valton or why he's there).

A few questions before I can accept your sheet, sorry. What kind of role do you hope for your character to perform in the village? We already have a Court Mage,so what would your mage be doing, day to day? This is a domestic style RP, all based around the daily comings and goings of a town. So everyone ideally should have a job here. Otherwise, it will get boring quickly - trust me.

I just read the information at the top of this thread and this RP looks to be like the Welcome to Grayditch RP over in the fallout section, which i was in for a time.

There have been -a lot- of threads so far,so it isprobably best not to. In the OP of every RP thread Gorbad posts a brief synopsis of what has been going on. I think the structure of the RP is indeed like that fallout RP, we've had another member of it join us before. If you write up a character sheet and post it in here, we'll try our best to approve it quick so you can join.Reading up on at least the current RP thread is recommend but not necessary. If you have questions, just ask here. :)

Hey Daroska, what exactly is Ugroc asking Theseus to do?

Urgoc is saying that he's a Greybeard of High Hrothgar and that the Jarl is his old buddy.
He wanted Theseus to go be a sport and go get the Jarl's permission to let the posse in.

With the current situation outside the keep, I don't think the guards would exactly hesistate at allowing Theseus inside to notify the man.

I already posted it but here it is again. Hope it's okay.

Name: Vanion Greenleaf

Age: 35

Race: Bosmer

Gender: Male

Height: 5’4

Birthsign: The Thief

Appearance: Like all other bosmer Vanion is quite short, he is pale of skin and has large brown eyes and long brown hair, on his chin he has plenty of stubble.

Class: Expert archer (looking to become a guard).

Skills and known spells: One-Handed, Archery, Light Armour and Sneak.

Clothing / armor: Vanion wears a full set, bar helmet, of leather armour. He also wears a grey cloak with a hood over it.

Weapons: Vanion uses a steel long sword, as an iron dagger but his main weapon is his prized hunting bow.

Personality: A very erratic person, Vanion is easily scared but determined all the same. People tend to like him fast but find him annoying as all hell. He thinks himself the best archer in Skyrim if not Tamriel.

Major flaw: His personality.

Background: Born in Whiterun his family was in the service of one of the Nord clans that lived there, he became the housecarl of his lord but soon left Skyrim with his close friend Dorlas. Soon afterwards he came back and found that Skyrim was a bit different since he last saw it. His lord was in prison and he had no purpose he became a sell sword and wandered a bit until he came into the Rift and heard tales of a new community to start a fresh life, hopefully he may be able to become a guard.

[snip]

The character sheet looks good! Gavril is currently Rping Daikanos, the Captain of the Guard, so your character should seek out him for work. We already have a guard Rper, but the more the merrier. You should be pretty busy. Welcome to Valton.

That sounds okay to me, but I should probably check with Gorbad first. Knowing me I completely missed there being another magic shop owner in the town.
