Valton: The New Hold, OOC & Sign-Up Thread #XXII

The RP Concept

As settlers we will begin to build a new hold in Skyrim in the Rift between Ivarstead and Riften. Some may choose to go to start a new life, others looking to earn coin by building, setting up a shop or becoming town guards. Others still may just find themselves there and end up deciding to stay. This RP will be very balanced between socialization and combat. Town RPs usually focus on character interaction, and that will be true with this one, but a new settlement far out in the woods may look like a ripe target to bandit clans, and wild life may come because of the scent of food (leading to hunting to lower the population of dangerous animals as well as for meat.

Valton:

An ambitious project began in the Rift several months ago: a new settlement sprung up alongside a river, between Ivarstead and Riften. Enough land was purchased for the new settlement, Valton, to be recognized as a new, separate hold, and the man who had purchased the land, Radwulf Spurvhauke, was given the title of Jarl. Valton is still growing, with the castle, Gudslott Keep, being erected first, and then several smaller buildings were built around it, though most of them are currently empty. In an attempt to attract as many citizens as possible to the new hold, Jarl Spurvhauke has set an extremely low price on these homes: a mere 1,000 golden septims, and settlers have been coming in from all over in a hope of a better life or a chance at making some coin, and as a new settlement, there is plenty of opportunity to do so.

In this RP you will enter the Hold as a settler, or looking for work. Your character can take up any job in the new hold you can think of, but quite a lot has already been taken.

Valton also has its own http://valtonthenewhold.wikia.com/wiki/Valton,_The_New_Hold._Wiki!

Here is the current list of jobs that are taken in Valton:

Jarl
Court Mage
Blacksmith
Alchemist
Lumberjack
Farmer
Mason/Carpenter
Innkeeper
Daedra Hunter / Mercenary
Mage
Captain of the Guard Thief

If this does happen, the time skip can start with Leandra finally rescuing Fiona. That can be their first scene.

Well, everyone else can be doing their thang in the town meanwhile. We can start with leandra discovering fiona and getting her out, if PFA is down with that.

I think the time skip would have to be at least two weeks to give enough room for old characters to leave one by one at a believable pace. I would also like to have a new Inn being built for Sarya. She still had her group of caravan guards that would stay and help her with construction.

You're rebooting this one? Sorry I left enexpectingly a while ago. I was being overwhelmed in RPs and real life at the time. I'm thinking of being apart of this since this was the first RP I joined in the forums.

I might make a new character, but did you guys wrote of Danus Maximus in anyway? Out of curioisty.

I don't think we ever wrote any inactive characters out unless the users controlling those characters requested it.

Well, horsepoop.

I don't know about you guys but I would not expect people to be posting every day. We all have real life stuff to occupy us and other RPs here on the forum.

As Kalamari said, I have OPaP....and school, college paperwork, the military, work, apartments to find, extracurricular club events, track and field state finals, and quite a few other things. I'm a busy busy man.

But.....I might have the old cook drop in a few times to keep everyone on their toes.

What was the last thing to happen in Valton... Hmm.

The scamp setting fire on the building, spreading chaos about?

That magic-fire incident sounds like a good enough reason to spook settlers away, reducing the towns population.

I must say, it sounds interesting to return to this RP as Gorbad Yak-Bogadbu. But I must say, GMing this back then wasn't all that fun, since there was a lot of other characters and other things to keep in order while still trying to RP and develop the smith. I believe this RP needs at least three, if not four, GM's, each working as general GM's, but all with different areas of focus. For example, one could focus on keeping the original posts of different threads updated. Another could keep the wikia updated (Smig! ). A third could have a number of side-characters to RP, such as the Jarl. And a fourth could create the (imo) very welcome "What happened in the last thread"-updates.

I would love it if Smig and AyumiFan would be GM's in this new wave. I'd be honored to return as a co-GM. If this RP needs someone to RP a couple of extra characters, I'm here. I'm only going to be in this RP after all, and I do have quite a lot of extra time for a few months into the future.

Four, eh? Who on Nirn could that last one possibly be?

If you ever need someone to look after Daedric things, you know who your man is. I really haven't got enough time for full on admin though, with my OPAP commitments.

I think that'd work. But, in exchange for liberating your character, I demand the right to retcon Leandra a little. There are some details of her that need updating to match what she turned out to be during the RP, and others that I'd like to change to be more in line with said developed image.

Fourth GM, the master of all things daedric. Sounds great!

That sounds like a great plan, for everyone who keeps old characters. (To update the old character-sheets that is.).

Also, I'm definitely going to make Gorbad less epic in the char-sheet. I regretted making him such a god-of-steel every since day 1!

I don't know if I should play as Danus Maximus again. I probably won't and play as a character of a smaller role than a Diplomat that played an important role in Valton's political status. What do you think?

Alright, I'll start working on my acceptance speech AND the wikia!

For now, here's a quick overview of the interested players so far:

Vincent: Fiona
Gorbad: Gorbad
Ayumi: Jack and Sarya
Smig: Alguidar (and probably a revised Brill)
PFA: Leandra
aSaPp!5@: Varyn
Gavril: Greorn
Kalamari: ?
disturbing: ?
WITYM: ?

Either way sounds fine to me. Think about what would be most fun in the long term.

Yeah, probably not going to join in on this. The thought of using Nellis again fills me with disgust, and I can't really think of any other characters to use besides some ditzy Dunmer author, and even then, bit iffy on that.

Plus, I have to catch up on OPAP, even though I'm not good enough for it.
