Valton: The New Hold OOC Thread

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 9:11 am

Last one has been shut down, and we need a new place to discuss OOC rather badly at the moment, so we can use here for now. It lacks the character sheets of the sign-up thread, but those can be edited into the RP thread I guess.
Here is the OP for the RP, and the character sheet in case anyone needs it:

Original Text:

Spoiler
The New Hold: As settlers we will begin to build a new hold in Skyrim in the Rift between Ivarstead and Riften. Some may choose to go to start a new life, others looking to earn coin by building, setting up a shop or becoming town guards. Others still may just find themselves there and end up deciding to stay. This RP will be very balanced between socialization and combat. Town RPs usually focus on character interaction, and that will be true with this one, but a new settlement far out in the woods may look like a ripe target to bandit clans, and wild life may come because of the scent of food (leading to hunting to lower the population of dangerous animals as well as for meat.

Updated version:

An ambitious project began in the Rift several months ago: a new settlement sprung up alongside a river, between Ivarstead and Riften. Enough land was purchased for the new settlement, Valton, to be recognized as a new, separate hold, and the man who had purchased the land, Radwulf Spurvhauke, was given the title of Jarl. Valton is still growing, with the castle, Gudslott Keep, being erected first, and then several smaller buildings were built around it, though most of them are currently empty. In an attempt to attract as many citizens as possible to the new hold, Jarl Spurvhauke has set an extremely low price on these homes: a mere 1,000 golden septims, and settlers have been coming in from all over in a hope of a better life or a chance at making some coin, and as a new settlement, there is plenty of opportunity to do so.

In this RP you will enter the Hold as a settler, or looking for work, and you can be an alchemist, barkeep, blacksmith, carpenter, court wizard, farmer, fisherman, guard (as well as Captain of the Guard), hunter, mason, mercenary, miner, shopkeeper, woodcutter, etc. Note that there are NPCs in the Hold as well, including the Jarl, random guards, farmers, and shopkeepers.

Remember to visit the sign-up thread if you haven't joined us yet: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1334968-valton-the-new-hold-sign-up-thread/

Alright everyone, I believe we've all waited long enough, so without further ado, let the RPing begin!

Thank-god, this is certainly badly needed. Well things are certainly hitting the fan. Scow, we ought to discuss your characters reaction to my Altmer's rudeness... Lol.

EDIT: Writing a new post now by the way.

I had her intend to ignore her the entire time, as I've done.

However, I think Nellis needs to cool his heels with the guards for a while. Heated argument and threats is one thing. Bat[censored] off-the-wall assault is another entirely.

Looks like we've got another Dragon Break on our hands with this succession of posts, lads. Or should I edit Fiona's outburst so it makes more sense after Nellis'? She'd have acted differently if she'd just witnessed that.

Get the feeling I should edit my post as it now makes absolutely no sense.

Yeah... I wasn't expecting that reaction. I hope you understand that Varlamo is certainly going to enact revenge for Nellis's petty assault in the future, probably string him up for being a Talos worshiper or the like... You can't expect to do such an act to a powerful Thalmor Justiciar and not have any consequences. May make for a cool plot line though!

Though, not to sure about you Scow, GM'ing a guard.... Even though Nellis will obviously have to receive some kind of legal trouble.

EDIT: Erasmos, no real need, he'll just be ignored, and taken aback at the row that seems to be happening without him.

I don't see it making no sense.... but it doesn't really contribute much either.

We do have a powder-keg situation, though.

I figure someone has to do it, and I made sure to keep it minimal. Everyone CC's that guard anyway. He's probably getting sick of it.

Mr. Thalmor will have to learn his place before he gets run through, though.

Well originally I was trying to find out the Justicars intention but then suddenly it all went crazy, I've edited it now so he doesn't say anything. Also, to be fair on Nellis, he only slapped the man and threw a rock at him, hardly what I'd call a full blown assault.

I get charged with assault for sneezing on people, at least in Skyrim :/

Also, this is a particularly cowardly guard if he is going to enforce that. Your average Nord guard isn't exactly sympathetic to the Thalmor. His dad probably fought in the war, if he didn't, after all.

So the guard will probably buy him a drink instead of fining him.

Pretend to be fining him in front of the Thalmor and then take him out for a drink instead? Seems likely to me.

wow, things were are going fast. now if these things get solved quickly and I can adress fiona before I go to sleep that's good, if not ignore Nuramon instead. I don't want to keep someone stuck because I'm not replying. I made my post before I realized it was 1 am

Aye, if Fiona gets free from the thalmor fracas (say it three times fast) then they can have a word. I still feel a bit silly for getting into all this mess, though in all fairness in Morrowind gameplay terms what Varlamo did was walk up to the first NPCs he saw and spam "Taunt"

You are pathetic

Taunt

You are pathetic

Taunt

You are pathetic

and so on.

Holy fudge.

Think round about now would be a good time for the Jarl, or his son to make an appearance ...

Also, I doubt Nellis would get arrested. However, the guard would realistically get involved if only to keep the peace.

Its good stuff! A nice read, very clinical and simple. Just describing a professional at work. Perhaps you could put more description into things, dip into Glathor's emotional state, or describe things in the particular way things seem to him. Just some ideas of what to practice at, but its good stuff. The RP has moved on to midday now, perhaps you could bring Glathor into time-sync with the rest of the town in your next post, and go seeking someone to sell the hide to? I'm sure the blacksmith would be more than interested.

By Talos, there's so much talk about Nellis slapping Varlamo. I'm so proud!

But I went ahead and had the guard fine Nellis. It's not much gold, and he did commit assault. If you guys think this is wrong, I can change it. I won't mind. I do feel Quintalls will care though.... I mean, with my charcter getting off with a fine. Want me change it? Just say so here. I'd rather like with him having to pay a fine......it get's a guys name around town!

That's cool, but be prepared for Varlamo to try and get your guy hanged for being a heretic, or assassinated. Varlamo will not allow such a challenge to go without an over the top ridiculous vengeance.

Also, edited my post slightly relating to the ebony plate being dented, so to allow for some smithing to occur.

I think they should have gone with something a bit more appropriate for the situation... such as a higher-profile arrest, and no option to pay the fine - Visibly have him "taken care of" by the guard instead of apparently being "Bought off". Hopefully our most maganimous Thalmor Guest will send a message to the miner without causing permanent harm to anyone. An over-the-top humiliation would be appropriate. As the downed bandit says, "Death is overrated."

Also, Zuuff... I have to admit I probably am not paying enough attention to your posts - partially because they "don't concern me"... of course, I think those who do have an interest in acquiring meat and hides are far more interested in it. Of course, the worst thing an RPer can do is try and vie for attention by attempting to escalate/force themselves into the current "scene".

I knew something like that was going to happen. I was also thinking of maybe Nellis trying to (Unsuccesfully) make the Varlamo hate him less. Try and buy him and drink and all. Could make a pretty funny exchange between the two. As long as you don't kill me or rob with me being able to do anything, I'm fine. Ohhhhh, I just love this powder keg sub plot!
