Valton: The New Hold, Sign-Up & OOC Thread VI

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 9:12 pm

Just dropped all my posts from KSS into MS Word. 179 pages and about 63,000 words. :P

Hopefully I'll have a chance to get that much into this RP before school picks back up again.

Is having played Skyrim a requirement for this RP? I'm having a little trouble relating to where these events are taking place, whether it be physical location or lore wise. I haven't played Oblivion or Skyrim yet, so I may be a little behind the times. It looks like a good RP and I'd be interested in giving it a try if I can work out these issues.

Well the wood grain thing was a bit of an exaggeration, but we do tend to carry on a lot about all the random stuff around. I'm used to slower paced RP's where each post is 500-1000 words. I think I had like 15,000 words in an RP that only lasted two threads a while back. Pretty sure I've broken 30,000 in KSS. So this is quite a change of pace for me.

I'll try to get a post up today but I'm still working for my dutch paper kind of thingy which I need to finish by tomorrow.

Same here! I googled a lot of stuff before. I'm a method actor

Most of it is TES lore in general, not Skyrim specific. I think it's perfectly possible but you might need to research or ask a few questions in the OOC thread before posting. The Imperial VS Stormcloack war comes to mind, as some character's are very much influenced by it. Just ask whatever's bugging you and we'll get you updated.

To all: I'll try to get back into the RP tomorrow but let me know if my character is needed to get the wheels moving.

@Darasoka, my character is a bit paranoid and your character's background as a mercenary would make for a perfect bodyguard, although it would be odd, a Dunmer with an Argonian bodyguard ;)

There is too little info about medieval milking rooms! xD

Alguidar isn't needed at the moment if you don't mind having a stranger snoop around his farm doing his work

guys, I'm 'fraid I won't be posting today, wel, I will post later today after I wake up and am back from school :) It's 1am here. It appears I should start earlier on thesis, instead of trying to do it in one day :P anyway, I hope I'm not keeping anybody waiting.

for those in need of a healer. you can always search for someone else if you guys are waiting on Nuramon. If you don't mind the waiting, I'll post for him in a bout 15 or 16 hours. :)

and Yes man, We need to pm about the bandit scene.

I know what you mean. I spent at least an hour researching horse breeds for two of my posts for Of Princes and Power.

I feel like what I've contributed to the RP so far has been lacking of my usual standard though. Lately I've been stepping out of my comfort zone with my characters to get a broader range. This is the first Nord, and Imperial, that I've ever played. The majority of my characters have been Dunmer. In fact all of my characters except Lucien and Cyrus had been Dunmer before OPaP. They're pretty much my forte when it comes to TES. I know Morrowind lore better than I know the history of my own country.

EDIT: Speaking of my Dunmer characters, what Daedric Princes have their eyes on Valton? If Mephala is involved then I have a character that could really fit into the RP and help deal with her. Some of you have met him in a few other RP's, mostly Immortal Blood Timeline ones. He's a very...interesting character. I've put more time into him than any other, been RP'ing him for two years straight in the Timeline.

*waves hand* Oooo.. ooo... *waves hand* pick me! pick me! *waves hand higher*

You need a healer? send that scrub to your local argonian surgery. Of course Doctor Jormaw of all Trades will fix that nord ranger up.. for a price.
It might involve a few toes being amputated (for alchemical purposes), blood being drawn (for alchemical purposes) and teeth being picked at..
But you'll get the best diagnosis this side of the Rift! no payment required! as long as you donate two legs to the hungry argonian hatchling fund.

Oh and by the way, you know that new brewery being built? since Xerces is bringing all those dunmeri labourers over to town, why not have
the brothers pay him to advance the construction of the brewery? it'd make both parties happy, I imagine. A nice solution to everyone's problems.

@Darasoka, my character is a bit paranoid and your character's background as a mercenary would make for a perfect bodyguard, although it would be odd, a Dunmer with an Argonian bodyguard

Unless you want your dunmer to be fish-bait for Jormaw's first catch, I wouldn't suggest it. Although I imagine with the right courtesy and persuasion,
he might take up the *part* time job as a Housecarl. However it'd be temporary to say the least. Honestly he'd be better as a nosey bartender like Dreekius
from Redguard, if he had to pick another profession to take on board. Such a job offer might come up with the new brewery being built ahead of schedule..

Well at least researching horses is a bit more sensible :P

I also try to add realism into my roleplaying, steering away from things like the pricing system in the games and the simplified way of making potions and mixtures with alchemy.
I also try to keep a realistic sense of time and scale, so I find it kinda odd that a courier is sent to Riften to request supplies and the very next day a cart filled with goods has been delivered from the Black-Briars, or that a smith can wake up in the morning and forge a complete set of iron weapons and armour and still have time to spare before lunchtime (though that can be explained if he's just doing shoddy work :P ). Or that a house meant to hold an entire clan can be built in only one week with the use of magic.

I don't want you to take this as a personal attack or criticism. Those were just used as an example to show what I mean. And I don't have a problem with people doing stuff like that, I don't get angry or annoyed, I just find it weird. Not bad or negative. Just weird :)

I try to take a similar approach. Especially when it comes down to matters of the Arcane. I through all game mechanics out the window when I use a magick character. For instance the character I'm thinking about bringing in, Rithe Veloryn, is an arcane prodigy raised in the Morag Tong. In KSS he leveled multiple city blocks in the town of Taneth in Hammerfell with a single blast of energy. Of course during the majority of the RP he hardly ever used his power where it wasn't needed. If it takes "X" amount of power to kill a bandit then he's only going to use "x" amount of power.

I also RP magick in a very natural and flowing way, like it's a natural energy that flows through your body and depending on how you manipulate those energies it can have different outcomes. I don't think Rithe has ever even flung a fireball at anyone in the two years I've RP'd him. :P

One of my favorite scenes from KSS, and a good example of how I like to use magick, was when Rithe and his companions got caught up in a fight to the death with a notorious pirate. He used alteration to alter the composition of a rooftop, allowing him to fall into the room below, he then proceeded to use the same alteration magick to pull the hitmen through the roof of the house one by one where he could deal with them easily.

And here I am rambling again. Sorry about that :P

A wild GM appears.

Oh gosh, I'm sorry for my absence. I've been omni-busy of late and haven't had the time to catch up with this beautiful RP. It's great to see so many new faces though, Valton looks as healthy as ever :D. I'm afraid I'm moving house in two days time, after which I'll be internetless for possibly as long as two weeks (though lets hope not). I'll still log on at internet cafes and uni and so on, so if anyone has any general querries about the RP or my characters (I RP the town's Court Mage), I'm still your man to contact. Once I get my internets back I'm applying myself to Valton full-time again, you couldn't keep me away for any longer.

Actually, I'll still be here for another day. Could anyone give me a re-cap of what has happened in the last week or so? I feel like I've missed an awful lot.

It was a TON of fun.

An Ex-Hand of Almalexia, an Ex-Morag Tong Master being hounded by Mephala, two Lycanthropes, two other mages, an archer, a Knight, and a sadistic Argonian with a magick gauntlet vs. about 60 thugs, a Pirate Queen, her personal companions, A renowned Witch-Hunter, an Ex-Imperial scout and master archer, and a young arcane prodigy.

It was a tough battle until Rithe got mind-screwed by Mephala and dropped into a coma as all his magicka was released at once. It pretty much had the same effect as dropping a nuclear bomb on about 10 city blocks.

It was pretty awesome.

Un momento por favor.

I have to search around in the threads.

EDIT: Start readinghttp://www.gamesas.com/topic/1215348-the-knight-the-sword-and-the-sentinel/page__view__findpost__p__18466657. Read anything with the heading "Taneth Alleyway", "Ambush Site", "Taneth House", "Abandoned House", "Tavern" or "Cantina". It's continued http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1242514-the-knight-the-sword-and-the-sentinel/ once you reach the end of that thread.

I warn you though, it's quite a long scene. Probably close to 12k-20k words if I had to take a guess.

Here's Rithe's character sheet for anyone who cares (had to redo it since the original is on my other HDD). I still don't know if I want to bring him into the RP yet, or if he'll fit in the RP at all, but here it is anyways. (Not in this RP's character sheet format though)

Spoiler

Name: Rithe Veloryn
Age: Born 3E 269 (368 years as of 4E 204, appears in late 30’s early 40’s)
Race: Dunmer, of the Telvanni Bloodlines
Gender: Male
Height:6'0"
Birthsign: The Mage

Appearance: Rithe is in extremely good physical condition and boasts a large amount of strength, yet remains lean and slender. He stands at roughly 6’0” and weighs in at about 180lbs. His cheek bones and jaw line are hard giving him a harsh look. His black hair falls down to his shoulders, but is tied back to keep it out of his deep crimson eyes. (http://i865.photobucket.com/albums/ab216/asapp152/TESV2012-03-1822-06-04-43.jpg)

Class: Arcane Assassin

Skills: Rithe was an arcane prodigy, therefore from an early age he was tutored in the arcane arts as well as the trade of the assassin. Due to his extreme arcane potential the Morag Tong tutored him to the best of their abilities. After years of tutoring, sparring, and training Rithe was finally inducted into the Morag Tong as a full member and began his own research into the arcane arts. He is one of the very few living beings that can truly claim a complete mastery of the school of Illusion. Never has he met someone of equal talent in the art of deception, except Mephala herself. Adding to his knowledge of the arcane Rithe has also mastered the schools of Destruction and Alteration. While they do not compare to his prowess in the school of Illusion he has found very few who can match his talents in either school. Rithe is also quite adept at the schools of Mysticism and Conjuration; however nowhere near the level of mastery he boasts in the other schools. Rithe knows little of the school of Restoration and has only studied it briefly.

Adding to his immense arcane abilities is his mastery of the blade. The Tong had no finer swordsman than Rithe Veloryn. Rithe prefers to wield Dunmeri katanas and does so with deadly efficiency. Centuries of training and honing his skills have shaped him into a mer who makes even the Daedric Princes tremble, Mephala in particular.

Weapons: Since his rise to the rank of Master in the Morag Tong Rithe Veloryn has carried only one weapon. An elegant curving Dunmeri katana forged from the finest ebony. The blade is honed to a razor sharp edge that can easily cut through the flesh of anyone who finds themselves unlucky enough to be on the wrong side of it. The cross-guard and pommel are made of tempered adamantium. The tang of the blade is flanked with two pieces of fire tempered hardwood and wrapped with netch leather in a cross pattern. When it was first forged the blade was brilliant and its well polished surface shone brightly. However many centuries have passed and the once vibrant brilliance of the blade has dulled. The hardwood and leather handle has been weathered and worn. The adamantium has been dulled to a satin finish, and the black blade scarred by many encounters. However it still holds an edge as it did centuries before when it was forged in Morrowind, before the fall of the Ministry, and before the invasion.

Armor: Rithe, now free from the obsidian black raiment of Mephala, wears his old armor from his days with the Morag Tong. The netch leather armor is unique in appearance, as is all Dunmeri armor. In Morrowind no two sets of armor were the same, except for those that were imported by the East Empire Company from the other provinces. The leather armor itself is earthy brown in color and is accented by the deep maroons of the Dunmeri scarves that accompany it. One is wrapped around the waist and draqes down near the tops of his knees while another is wrapped loosely around his neck and shoulders. The one thing that is most unique about the armor, however, is the insignia branded on the leather of the left upper arm. http://media.steampowered.com/steamcommunity/public/images/avatars/72/7299d5873a30ab8412d5bd97a4b478577bb073c2_full.jpg was beginning to get worn down, yet one could still clearly make out the insignia. However it is an entirely different matter when it comes to recognizing it. The Tong, along with most of Morrowind, was almost entirely eradicated during the Red Year and the invasion of the Argonians. Rithe is probably one of the last few surviving members; most likely the only surviving member born before the 4th century of the 3rd era. Around his shoulders he wears a worn dark brown hooded travel cloak.

Miscellaneous Items: In various pockets and pouches tied to his belt Rithe keeps an assortment of small items. Namely an extremely potent powdered poison commonly used by the Morag Tong in the 3rd Era called "bane". He also carries with him a few small vials of a deep maroon liquid, a concoction of ingredients used to rapidly heal wounds, he derived the formula from a similar potion used on him by a Ra'Gada medicine man while in Hammerfell. He also carries with him his signet ring of office, a token showing his high rank among the Morag Tong. It is almost useless now, but it holds some sentimental value to Rithe. He also carries a few small blank pieces of parchment, a purse of gold, and a small steel knife used as a tool.

Personality: Rithe's personality is a hard thing to put in words. Depending on the situation his moods can vary slightly, altering his attitude towards others. However Rithe maintains a calculating, anolytical, and sometimes cold personality. He is not aggressive or abrasive, yet he rarely shows any emotional extremes. Rithe instead hovers in the middle of the spectrum. He is neither overly friendly nor unfriendly, nor harsh nor soft. He maintains a calm demeanor almost all the time, as if he has reaches some sort of inner calmness and is in-sync with the world around him. This is most likely a result of his training. A calculating, anolytical, mind untouched by strong emotion was a necessary trait for any Morag Tong assassin. When it comes down to matters of importance or things Rithe has set his mind on he will execute them with ruthless efficiency.

Rithe also holds to the philosophy that any action one takes in the world gives off ripples, and that it is better to strike one man and cause a tsunami than strike a thousand for the same result. He does only what is necessary and no more, he believes the smaller the wound the smaller the scar left behind.

Major Flaw: Rithe has the wrath of a Daedric prince pitted against him. Two centuries ago his mind and his soul belonged to Mephala, but now he is free again. However his enslavement left its mark. Even though his soul and mind is his own again he is still haunted by memories from his past and from the torments Mephala put him through.

Background: Rithe was born to a Telvanni Mage-Lord in the grand city of Sadrith Mora. Being an illegitimate child his father cast him away and refused to recognize him as his son. The young babe was taken in by the Morag Tong, as was custom at the time. They raised him and ensured that he was well fed and educated through his early childhood. When he came of an age where he could begin learning the trade of the Morag Tong he was tutored and trained by the Guild-master at Sadrith Mora. It was not long into his tutoring that his talent was recognized. Rithe, even at an extremely young age, was capable of manipulating the arcane better than the trainees that were ten and fifteen years his elder. After his talent was discovered Eno Hlaalu himself paid for the best tutors and mages to train Rithe in the ways of the arcane. Eno envisioned a new breed of Morag Tong, one that pulled on the arts of the arcane as much as the traditional arts. Rithe was to be the first of his kind.

Many years passed, and Rithe’s abilities quickly grew. At the age of 23 he was inducted as a full member in the Morag Tong; over ten years earlier than most recruits were inducted. At the age of 32 he was promoted to the rank of Knower, the youngest to ever achieve such standing in the guilds history. Over the next 40 years Rithe continued his training and became one of the guild’s most lethal and efficient assassins. At the age of 78 he had surpassed all his mentors and teachers in the ways of the arcane arts and took up his own studies and research to further his abilities. After the death of the Sadrith Mora Guild-Master Rithe was given the title of Master of the Morag Tong, a title only 6 others held.

Rithe managed the Sadrith Mora Guildhall and its members with great efficiency. It was no surprise that the Grandmaster favored him over the other ranking members of the guild. Rithe completed his writs with cold and calculating efficiency, never making a fault or failing to complete an assignment. He did as he was commanded and never thought twice about it. The guild was his life, all he had known, all he had cared for. That is until Rayden Andrethi came into the world.

Rayden was the son of two of Rithe’s most loyal and committed assassins, Adren Verethi and Elmera Farandyl. As was expected the boy was raised in the ways of the Tong and Rithe grew rather attached to him. Even though he would not admit it openly, or even to himself, he had grown to see the young mer as a son. This, however, would lead to his eventual downfall and spiral him into a series of events that would forever change his life and the lives of many others.

Five years before the Oblivion Crisis Rayden’s parents were killed while completing a writ in the northern wastes of Vvardenfell. It sent the young mer in a fury of rage followed by a sadistic and numb inner fury that sparked the fire that would lead to his exile. Rayden, emotionally and mentally broken after the death of his parents, faulted two writs. The first was pardoned. However after Rayden ruthlessly murdered an entire manor’s residents while attempting to kill their Hlaalu master, his fate was sealed. The next day Eno Hlaalu issued a writ of execution for Rayden Andrethi. Master Rithe Veloryn was tasked personally with its completion.

Rithe, after many weeks of tracking, finally cornered his apprentice in the town of Balmora. He had Rayden pinned in an alleyway with five of the Tong’s best mer at his back. However he faltered, his emotions taking hold of him for the first time, and in a quick flurry he slew his five brothers leaving Rayden alive. After refusing to leave Rithe knocked Rayden unconscious and took him captive. They travelled south to Vivec, the last place Eno Hlaalu would expect Rayden to go. Rithe proposed that they go into hiding, yet Rayden in his headstrong youth refused and set off to take revenge on the Tong.

Five years passed and Rithe remained in hiding as his apprentice carried on his reckless vendetta against the Morag Tong, against the order he had sworn to serve for life. Time and time again he advised his apprentice to stop his foolish search for closure, but Rayden wouldn’t listen.

When the gates of Oblivion opened and the Daedra poured out onto Vvardenfell Rithe became trapped. During the invasion there was no way to leave the island, and fearing for his life he contacted the patron of his order, Mephala.

Rithe asked for safe transport for himself and Rayden, Mephala obliged. However Rayden would not follow his master to safety and instead decided to remain on the island in hopes that he could finally vanquish the last of the Morag Tong. Rithe called him a fool and continued on without him, yet he was truly the fool for trusting a Daedric prince. Mephala was angered at Rithe’s betrayal and exacted her cruel vengeance on him as he prayed at her alter.

Rithe was enveloped in the void of her realm and upon his face a black hand was branded. Mephala had deceived him and claimed his soul as payment for his life. From that point on Rithe reluctantly served Mephala, seeking out her enemies and smiting them. Over the years she finally began to break the mental barriers he had spent so long building, and he collapsed into a shadow of his former self, a broken and tortured shell of what he used to be.

Yet his enslavement did not last forever. With the help of Arethan Andas, a former Hand of Almalexia Rithe managed to track down the Telvanni magister Aryon in Hammerfell. After a large conflict with a local Pirate Queen Rithe was left in a shatter state of mind. Mephala once again had his conscious in her grasp and struggled to once again regain control of his soul. It is at this point that Rayden Verethi tracked down his former master and helped Arethan bring him to Aryon.

Rithe was in possession of a gem, a token of his enslavement to Mephala and a way for her to torment his mind. Inside where the souls of every man and women he had killed in Mephala’s name, each one haunted his every dream. This gem was used by Arethan and Aryon to kill Rithe’s mortal body and capture his fleeing soul. Since the compact with Mephala stated that only death could release him from service Rithe was now free. However his soul still remained outside his body. Using the remaining power in the gem Aryon, through a long and laborious process, managed to rejoin Rithe’s body and soul and repay in full Rithe for his services from many years before.

Rithe was once again himself, his mind whole and his own again. After this he parted ways with Arethan and travelled back to Morrowind with Rayden. Since then little is known of Rithe Veloryn and Rayden Andrethi. They have effectively remained under the radar for centuries or are in fact deceased as is believed by remnants of the Morag Tong. However, since Rithe never resigned his position he is, after Eno’s death during the Red Year, the highest ranking member of the Morag Tong.

That is the longest background to a character EVER

That's the condensed version (Only 2,000 words). His original character sheet that's on my other HDD is much longer.

Not to mention the part where Rayden (His apprentice) is sentenced to death and he disappears off the face of Nirn is detailed in a 15,000 word fanfiction called http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1203476-the-exile/page Speaking of that I still need to finish it.

A wild GM appears.

Oh gosh, I'm sorry for my absence. I've been omni-busy of late and haven't had the time to catch up with this beautiful RP. It's great to see so many new faces though, Valton looks as healthy as ever .

Eh... who are you?

Just kidding! Please don't smite me with your infinite GM power!

I think the main events were the clearing of Shimmermist mine and a bandit's attack near Valton. The man that brought the farmer to Valton, left to Riften. Soon after that, his horse appeared in town with an arrow in its back. The shopkeeper found it and kept it. The farmer identified it. The captain of the guard went looking for him and found his body but no bandits. In the meantime, Gorbad, Nelis, Elarian and a couple of guards cleared Shimmermist mine of wolves, spiders and a chaurus, finding different ore veins in the process. These are very broad strokes.

By the way, just an idea. It could be cool to make a proper summary of everything that happened in Valton since day one. No detail, just the essential. And maybe put it in the OP? This could help everyone that joined recently and others that might be thinking of joining.
