Valve did it...

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 10:58 am

Well Valve is deciding its time to make Pc mods available on the Xbox through DLC so why shouldn't Bethesda do this with Skyrim. Just release good mods that have been looked over and approved and then release it as DLC on the Xbox that way they can make some really good mods Cannon if they felt that they were good enough which would make many mod developers happy because they would know that there "Mods" became something that happened in the Elder Scrolls 5 story. They could also release Weapon packs with weapons made by the community. The same goes for Ingredients, potions, spells, Armour, ect. Who agrees with me.

Start the vote.

Mod please change Title to: Valve is going to do it...

If they did this they better be free or the mod creators better be getting compensated.

User created content should never be canon.

Although I support user created content being available on the Xbox.

User made mods are NEVER canon, they are all "Hey! Look at what I can do with modding software!" and that's it.

Some of it is really damn good too.

Yeah i have to agree with you guys but who knows something might come out of the community that really tips Bethesda's idea of good cannon material.

This isn't really fair. Thanks to Steam, Gabe has become God-Emperor of the Universe, so he can say he wants hardcoe pormography with a terrorist subplot released as a G rated film, and it'll happen.

Let's say somehow Bethesda can get User Created mods as DLC on the 360/PS3, it would take a veritible army of QA and moderators to filter out all the harmful/obscene things, sort of like what happened on LBP and LBP2. For every 1 awesome level, there was 322 Genital-inspired levels, and copyright violations. That's not even including the thousands of daily, just plain bad, user generated content.

Which mods are these? Is this the popular custom campaign thats just been released for Left4Dead 2?

One instance does not open the floodgates. And Bethesda have already confirmed 'No mods for Consoles'

It's not going to happen. Not with Skyrim anyway.

Might as well be in Skyrim general, I seriously doubt they'd implement it for Oblivion.

I put none that will make my game laggy, even though I will be getting the PC version. And it has been done with games on the PS3 too, by the way. It would probably have to stay in the realm of tweaking numbers, re-texturing within strict limits, and new quests that don't add many new items/props/structures to the game. Basically anything that would require a noticeable amount of additional memory would likely be problematic.

If Bethesda wants to go for it, good for them. But it seems to me it would be too much work on their part (as in making sure the mods won't crash the game, corrupt saves, etc.) to be feasible, but I could be wrong.

No they said that it might not happen on release day but that they will be talking with Microsoft and Sony about it to try come up with a compromise and to all the people saying that valve didn't do anything then my answer to you is at least they are trying.

You want mods, buy it for the computer.

It's not going to happen for the xbox. The consoles are closed systems and companies need to jump through red tape to successfully implement modding features.

Let BGS actually focus on official DLC and expansions. User-generated content usually consists of half-naked anime character models and random add-ons that are in no way relevant to the actual gaming experience.

If it's made and released by the developer it's not a mod, at least in the common usage of the term.

Links and details of what mods, what games and which way they're going to make it happen, or I don't believe a word of it.
