Vampire Follower?

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 5:15 pm

Hi, I'm really new to the whole modding scene and I've been messing around with the Creation Kit for a couple of days now. I managed to add an NPC Follower to the game (yay ) and the only problem I seemed to have was his voice (which I've now found out should only be selected follower dialogue voices and was fixed). So apart from that everything is okay from what I can tell, but I'm curious to see if I can edit him to change him into a full Vampire? I mean with the visual effects: pale skin, reddish eyes, etc. like when the player contracts the disease.

I've also tried to give him spells and perks related to Vampirism, I know there are two sets of Vampire Perks in the Creation Kit but I'm unsure what attributes they give, if they can apply to him at all or if they contribute to the appearance I'm looking for.

Does anyone know if it is possible to change him? I'd be really grateful for any help seeing as I'm still fairly new to this "

It's possible (I think).

But, if you are only 2 days into your CK experience, it might be something to store for a week (or three ;))

If I were you, I would do the big Tutorial on the wiki http://www.creationkit.com/Category:Tutorials

... but, to be fair, that only has bits and pieces on character creation (and next to nothing on advanced character creation). But, that said, it will teach you lots and lots about Quests, packages, scripting and so forth (all of which you will need for your vampire follower)

You might also take a look at a vampire in the CK. If you right-click on a vamp actor (in the object list, left side of screen) you should see a Use-Info option. Clicking that will show you all of the quests and such like that the character is involved in ... You could then start crawling through how it all works (but you will probably need a better understanding of CK/Papyrus before much of it makes sense)

It takes a few days to start getting comfortable with how it all hangs together ... Once you are over that hurdle it gets easier ;)

Yes it is possible, if you add me on steam (16-Bit Bacon) and send me the mod, I will happily make the NPC a vampire for you

Firstly, you'll have to make the NPC one of the vampire races by choosing it in the race dropdown list.

Then you have to add spells -- NPC vampires have different abilites than the player vampire; look at Alva's spell list as an example. The NPC should have the spells "crAbVampire" (the vampiric resistance to frost and weakness to fire), "crVampireSunDamage" (their health, magicka, and stamina regeneration is stunted in sunlight), "InvisibilityVampiric," and one of the "crVampireDrain" and "crVampireUnarmedDamage" spells. There are seven variants each of these spells: the higher the number, the stronger the spell. More powerful vampiric drain spells absorb stamina and eventually magicka, too, but giving these to an NPC intended to help the player can make them too powerful.

What their class is is up to you, but the "EncVampire" class that most NPC vampires use favors one-handed, light armor, sneak, conjuration, and destruction magics.

The NPC's combat style should be "csVampireBoss," "csVampireMelee1H," or "csVampireMagic," depending on their archetype.

Thanks a lot for the answers, guys, it has helped a lot! And thank you for the offer to make him for me, Sambeevors, but I find it's better for me to get to grips with the toolset myself, regardless of how frustrating it can be xD

The only problem now is that he won't actually follow me even after I select the option...which is strange. I've followed an NPC and Follower tutorial down to the letter:

I gave him 75 disposition to recruit him openly
His minimum level requirement is 10 (I'm level 16, so that shouldn't be the problem)
He has CurrentFollowerFaction (set as -1) and PotentialFollowerFaction (set at 0) in the Faction table
His Relationship to the Player has been set up

I'm not sure what's causing the problem here O.o

EDIT: I thought I'd just fixed it but apparently not. I had Lydia with me, so his follower command cancelled out. I dismissed Lydia and recruited my Vampire, no problem, but then when I went to recruit Lydia again, she now does the same thing he did: accept my request for a follower, but never follows me. I am using the UFO mod, where it allows the recruitment of multiple followers, so that's the only thing I can think of that's causing the problem...but my other follower I made (A Khajiit assassin) works perfectly fine alongside the mod, so I'm unsure of why my Vampire isn't working.
