Vampire pro's and con's? Race?

Post » Sat Feb 22, 2014 7:32 pm

Which are the bigger pro's and cons of being a vampire?

It seems you get access to some very powerful skills as a vampire

but with lower health regen and weakness to fire resistance.

Or is there something else that i've forgotten?

And what about the race?

Which race do you feel works best together with being a vampire?

Personally i would say Dunmer because of the high fire resist as to negate the weakness to fire.

But can other races work just as well. Is there a hardcap on resistence and if so can i enchant fire resistence onto my gear to negate the cons of being a vampire?

My main choice of race would probably be an Imperial but if Dunmer is much more suited for vampires, i might choose that instead.

I'd say vampire overwrites your racials, as well you died.

Watch out for players who have Silver Bolts. It's a Fighters' Guild skill and does extra damage to undead, including vampire players. Not sure how much extra, though.

The good thing about being a Vampire is you have access to some pretty powerful skills. You have a drain spell that stuns the target and drains their health and stamina, and deals damage. You also get an ultimate that deals close range AE damage and can steal health too. You get some minor passive bonuses, like increased stamina and magicka regen.

To me, the downsides far outweigh the benefits, at least in PvP. First of all, you take +50% damage from fire sources. Meaning Dragonknight skills, and Templar nukes, plus anyone with a fire staff. Secondly, the Fighters Guild skill line is basically devoted to owning you. If you fight a player who slots some of these skills, it is looking like they will destroy you, no matter how good you are. I could be wrong on that though.

I really wanted to work Vampire skills into my dark caster build, but I don't think I will since I want to pvp a lot.

IMO, the disadvantages and general butt-pain associated with doing the vampire thing outweigh the benefits ... but to each his own.

Who cares about fire resistances?

I'm going to create a Dunmer DK and he'll become a Vamfire.

i am still more concerned about vampires in pve though everytime someone brings them up they seem to only consider how they will be in pvp. each topic someone says "the fights guild line can destroy them" but what about the end game pve? are mobs going to have abilities designed just for the super natural? if not then vampires are going to destroy the end game pve content and i can see groups asking specifically for just vampires. not a vamp? get outa here

You might not be dunmer anymore though, you might just be vampire. If they let vampires keep their previous racial skills and bonuses then dunmer will be the only race worth changing into a vampire.

Well, PvE in general is much easier to balance than PvP, so I don't think people are as worried about it.

Also, I don't really see anything about Vampires that jumps out at me being worth it other than the passive stamina/magicka regen. Their spells are great not just because of damage, but because they heal and stun too. You have a legit argument though, I could see them being too good in PvE... I just don't think people are as vocal about it. The PvP community is usually more worried about balance issues.

I'm afraid that was more of a failed attempt at humor. However, I can't seem to find much about the disadvantages. I'm exhausted and my research skills have gone to bed without me.

TBH, I haven't looked at them at all, until tonight on esohead.
