vampire troubles

After clearing out a nest of vampires I became one myself. Rather than go through the long process of finding a cure, I went back to an earlier saved game. What precautions should I take in the future to keep from becoming a vampire again ? Thanks for the help.

Check your stats for diseases after every vampire encounter.

Carry the ability to cure disease. The simplest/easiest thing is just carry some pieces of mandrake root. Eating it is one of the simplest ways to cure disease.

If, after a vampire encounter, you do have the disease and can't cure it right away, then DO NOT sleep. Rather, make your new job #1 getting some sort of cure disease (mandrake root, potion, pray at a chapel, learn a spell, etc).

Save your game routinely so if you mess up, you can reload.

Carry lots of Cure Disease potions,
or if your a mage
Make a Cure Disease spell.

Other precautions are keeping vampires at range with ranged spells and arrows.
If you ever have the time...do the Vamp cure quest, you will no longer have to worry about Poryphillic Hemorphillia (vamp disease)

Damn, ninja'd by Acadian :toughninja:

I just did the Purification on the Dark Brotherhood lodge and in the process of looting the place, I found several bottles of human blood. Can you use these instead of hunting for victims? If so, where can you find more? Seems handy for vamps who go dungeon-diving for days at a time and find themselves too monstrous/undead to travel safely during the day.

Human Blood is a potion that can be found in Vicente Valtieri's room of the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary. Also in Castle Skingrad, by the Pale Lady in Castle Skingrad's wine cellar, and in the last room of Fort Crowhaven (the Fort you go to in the Origin of the Gray Prince Quest). Please note that unless you have the appropriate updates, this potion doesn't "satisfy your thirst" if you happen to be a vampire. Strangely it has the same in-game appearance as wine.
