Vampire? Yes, no, maybe so?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 8:34 am

Vampirism, the one thing I haven't done yet. I've been reading up on it and I can't decide if I should be one. The abilities you get seem really neat, but the disadvantages are also quite prominent.

So this is basically a quicky-thread of me asking you guys what you think I should do, since I'm such an indecisive motherf*cker.

Thank you for your time,
Shiro!

If you have the companions curse btw, you will need to cure yourself before you try it out, or you are immune.
Unless you start a new character.

I thought it was more of a hassle then it was worth. The powers are cool, but you have to feed alot. It also seems that npc's can tell from a mile away even at night.

No for gods sake DONT become one.

I did and it was a complete and utter waste of time.

Useless "powers and abilities"...complete pain in the [censored] to have to feed so often....gets sooo boring hearing npc's saying every 1.54 seconds "you look pale / hungry - are you allright?"

My advice - SAVE before trying it but even better don't waste your time.

svcks... Pun, he he...

No really it puts you on the clock, gives very little pros, and stop regeneration of health, stamina, and health in sunlight limiting effective travel to night. Don't do it unless for RP

Personally I prefer werewolves, so my vampire character hasn't had a lot of playtime, but the vampire I assassinated did have a pretty cool look - red eyes and visible fangs.

The thing is a Vampire only really becomes powerfull, even at night - in daylight he never is, when the disease reaches later stages. He becomes powerfull in form of some special abilitys, mostly magic spells that are available ingame anyway.
In later stages, which you get when you dont feed for a couple of days, people recognize you as soon as they see you and attack immediately.
Other Vampires and the other usual enemys also still attack on sight.
Besides the Quest to get a cure for the disease I dont think there are any Vampire specific Quests.
You can do some fun things, like bite the ghost of the mad king and all Jarls in the game (that dosent do anything though), but it really isnt a fully implemented feature, its more of a gimmick that gets annoying pretty soon.

Agreed. werewolves are definitely worth it, they get some great advantages like ability to go beserk and tear the stuffing out anything with their fast claw attacks, the howl ability to make enemies flee in fear. Immunity to disease.
The only downside? You don`t get the well rested perk when sleeping, which is no biggie. I got put off going Vampire when i realised your health regen is kaput outside, quite a big disadvantage in combat.
Turning into Wolf form can be a major life saver. I was struggling to take down the last Dragon Priest i met with melee, thanks to his constant fire attacks. After dying a couple of times, i reloaded and turned into a Werewolf and then proceeded to slaughter the Dragon Priest with lightning fast claw attacks. Get a certain ring and it`s even better.

My level 40 assassin is a vampire. The bonuses really fits my type of game. The bonuses to sneak and illusion are hella neat, not to mention the posion immunity and frost resistance, which goes very well with my natural resistance to cold as a nord. Since I earn a living by killing people and stealing stuff the vampire sleeping pattern suits me damn good. I feel it adds more depth to the game when I can't fight in daylight and need to feed once in a while.

Good luck with being a vampire man!

Vampirism has perfect bonuses for a stealthy illusionist character. Sneak around and slit their throats, if caught use illusion spells to disrupt them.
I'd suggest it being a Dunmer as well to get that 50% fire resistance, it will really help you as a vampire.

If you go the vampire route, it's great for dungeon-diving, lousy for civilization in general unless you keep up on the feeding. I think only the College and Dark Brotherhood tolerate vampires, everyone else will try to kill you if you end up blood-starved around them.

Greatly benefits stealth players, and anyone using the school of Illusion. I rather like the vampire sight ability, handy to have without giving away your own position with a light spell or torch.

I'd save it for when you feel more like doing a stretch of dungeon delving, because the nice thing is that it has a relatively simple cure quest and you can catch it again if you want. But if you cure it by becoming a werewolf, like someone else said it'll render you immune to it the rest of that character's game.

I'd be one right now, but I'm spending more time on completing quests and objectives and building up my skills with training. Eventually, I'm going to go back to strictly dungeon delving and I'll make my first visit be a vampire den. Nothing like being a vampire and using fire as my main magic attack.

Kinda sad.

Morrowind had 3 vampire factions and had cool vampire quests. I remember a quest where you become the apprentice of a master vampire and tried to restore his power, ending was awesome.

I guess thats the price you pay for having voice overs for every line. I'd rather they return to morrowind style texts and only do voice over for important stuff, instead of recording 100 different "I shoud go" lines.

Very disappointed in Skyrim vampires. Its actually worse than Oblivions which is just a damn shame because it has so much potential to add a new playstyle and freedoms of choice. Luckily there will be some great vampire mods that should fix the system right up in time. Its still a shame that Beth seem to have gone off vampires since morrowind, would love to see them given the proper professional treatment with custom critical hit moves and their own quest lines.

Anyway don't bother becoming one now, wait for a good mod to make it worth while.
