Vampires and Molag Bal?

Post » Wed Feb 19, 2014 3:07 pm

Hey so here's a lore question...

the player character as we know, has no soul at the start of the game and I guess the main storyline would involve getting it back from Molag Bal....but, doesn't he technically own the soul's of all vampires? so what is the point of trying to get your's back, if he just ends up reclaiming it anyway if you become a vampire lol? or if you became a vampire before you regained it, does he not get it lol? just seems sort of counterproductive in becoming a vampire and losing over your soul, again lol.

He created the first one when he savagely assaulted that Nedic chick in Skyrim. She was the first and then he's got the whole Daughter's of Cold harbor going for him. However, Clavicus Vile created a strain of vampires in Cyrodiil with another one of his "deals".

Is skyrim set before or after oblivion? I remember being a vampire in oblivion but not in skyrim, or you talking about the place not the game (confused hehe)

The place. The Nedic people came to Skyrim from Atmora and later became the Nords.

in the lore molag bal is the father of all vampires so when one dies their soul goes to cold harbour, just wanted the above answered lol as its kind of confusing as to why one would fight to regain their soul, only to lose it back to him.

I'm sorry, I have no idea what that is.

There are lots of books, like this...

I ask again, where you read that a vampire's soul goes to Cold Harbor?

No question he's the father of vampires, but where their soul goes after death is not set in stone, lore wise. Yeah, if you got your vampirism by pleadging yourself to Molag Bal (ie. Harkon), that's probably where you're going to end up. But if you got it "second hand", there's no guarantees.

The Nedic woman is not the only tale about this, any of these 2 can be true. I don't know about any other on this matter. Just that Molag Bal is the creator.

I am not sure there is a connection between the prisoners in cold harbour and vampires, as you are not a vampire yourself when you get there either.

The thing that I found odd is if you go the vampire route (werewolf all the way for me!) then why would you be closing down bal's anchors? Surely he owns your a$$ now either way

I do not think he "own" the vampires, Most vampires do tend to venerate Molag Bal and clavicus for the gift they have given them. That does not mean that all vampires want Molag bal to come down on earth and capture all mortals and abduct the to cold harbour, what will the vampires have left to feed on then.

Lore-wise, Bal doesn't have an automatic claim on vampires' souls (unlike Hircine and werewolves); many vampires do implicitly or explicitly pledge themselves to his sphere, but it's their choice.
