Vampires, possible spoiler.

Post » Thu Oct 06, 2011 3:37 am

I remembered reading a book ages ago in Oblivion mentioning Vampires, so I thought I would go back and check it. It doesn't say much, but already Bethesda has mentioned Vampires so we know there is a heavy influence on them (I guess) now we can see where they are going with them, it seems they are leaning them back to the tribal state like in Morrowind. This is the quote from the book:
"He wanted to know about the vampires of eastern Skyrim. I told him about the most powerful tribe, the Volkihar, paranoid and cruel, whose very breath could freeze their victims' blood in the veins. I explained to him how they lived beneath the ice of remote and haunted lakes, never venturing into the world of men except to feed.

Movarth Piquine listened carefully, and asked more questions into the night, until at last he was ready to leave.

"I will not see you for a few days," he said. "But I will return, and tell you how helpful your information has been."

True to his word, the man returned to my chapel shortly after midnight four days later. There was a fresh scar on his cheek, but he was smiling that grim but satisfied smile of his.

"Your advice helped me very much," he said. "But you should know that the Volkihar have an additional ability you didn't mention. They can reach through the ice of their lakes without breaking it. It was quite a nasty surprise, being grabbed from below without any warning."

"How remarkable," I said with a laugh. "And terrifying. You're lucky you survived."

Volkihar are brought up every single time vampires are. How can you miss that?

Love Lore... They've been a good sign for the last games.

Loads I've read about skyrim in other games has come true in confirmations.

It's true mate. Also that's why I am taking it easy tonight, I'm at home fa gin one hand and decided why not read through some of the books while I have nothing to do and see what lore there is about Skyrim. Sounds sad when I say it though innit? Haha.

On practically every vampire thread about TES V ever made. You're a new member though so I guess you don't know. It's just not a spoiler. Lore also says there are a lot of werebears in Skyrim. We'll be lucky if we get werewolves again.

Well sorry mate, I never saw anything on them. I just thought I'd do a good deed and share what I saw haha. But yeah, I think werewolves are deffinately in. They were brought over in Bloodmoon which was obviously similar to Skyrim, and they were hinted at as well as in a lot of lore not to mention the demand for them last time when Oblivion came out.

Volkihar don't go around biting people as they sleep, which is the gameplay of vampirism in Skyrim according to Todd Howard.

"And you can feed on people while they're sleeping..."-Todd Howard on Skyrim vampires.

"They were cultured, more civilized than the vampires of the provinces, preferring to feed on victims while they were asleep, unaware"Vampire from Immortal Blood.

I believe the Cyrodiilic vampires might make a return. "There are various levels of being a Vampire. The sun will effect you more, the more powerful you will get." The gameplay sounds the same. And lore makes sense for them to return.

" By the virtue of Imperial structure and bureaucracy, Cyrodiil has become our stronghold in the third era, and we suffer no savage rivals within our boundries"-Manifesto Cyrodiil Vampyrum.

"These foes may one day threaten to impugn our sovereignty within the boundries of Cyrodiil, thus compelling our vigilance. Should and enroach upon our dominion, our wrath must be swift and total."

Their creation probably precedes their coming to Cyrodiil. And by the last statement, we can discern that vampires do travel to other provinces. Skyrim is 200 years after Oblivion. Vampires do not age. We all know that. There are 200 and 300 year old vampires in Oblivion. It is very possible that the Cyrodilic vampires travel from place to place and take over. They "Ousted" their competition in Cyrodiil. And since it was made a stronghold in the Third Era, it means that they weren't originally from there. It's no longer the third era, but the fourth. And it's very possible they went to Skyrim to take over.

I think Freezing your victims with your breath would be a cool Vampire Attribute, it'd be something that would make people actually want to become one.

It's not in the game. At least we think it's not.
