Vampires or Werewolves: Which is more "morally repugnant

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2016 8:03 am

Reading through some threads, I've answered that I detest vampires. Mainly because they feast on blood, only come out at night (as "urban legends" have it), etc. They are typically viewed in the same light as necromancy has become to be viewed. Ironically, I've realized I don't view werewolves the same way. Perhaps because I RP in a way that I use it more as a vengeance super hero ability than a "fun" or "nice to have ability." It does have its drawbacks too. It doesn't make sense to me though that a werewolf would gain greater abilities through basically cannibalism vs simply feeding on whatever prey they have hunted down. I mean why should a person gain the werewolf abilities any faster or better than a deer the werewolf has hunted down.

In any case, eventually I realized that werewolf really is no better off than a vampire. Both can be quite "morally repugnant," yet I seem to view lycanthropy as relatively more "noble" than vampirism. What do you people think? Do you think one is more "morally repugnant" than the other? Both are equally repugnant? And why?

Looking at the daedra behind each of them, the whole Molag Bal thing irks me more than the whole Hircine thing.

The companions "Werewolf light" version or real Werewolfs? The companions aren't forced to transform at night or full moon and are not required to kill people.Real Werewolfs from previous TES game need to kill humans regulary or become very weak(down to 4 max health in Daggerfall). The "Werewolf light" can choose to eat humans but that is not required nor forced just as he could technically eat humans in human form too(lore wise not gameplay).

Or short=I don't see the Companions as real werewolfs.

Actually if you don't feed in werewolf form in Skyrim, you'll eventually change back. This by default is 140 seconds I think and eating extends that by 30 seconds, and you can only transform once a day.

True. I had forgotten that Daggerfall requires you to feed on an "innocent" vs killing a foe while a werewolf. Not technically required I guess to survive, but required if they want to advance further in their lycanthropic abilities.

Aela does mention that weres can have control to varying degrees. Her obviously being one under more control of her lycanthropy, while others seem less capable of separating the person from the beast side. The "Physicalities of Werewolves" book also hints at varying degrees of control, at least for transformations. Although maybe the one "specimen" had the Ring of Hircine.
