Vampirism bug when changing race

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 7:22 am

Just reporting a bug not sure if its been stated before or not, did some looking but didnt see anything.

Anyways when I have vampirism on my guy, and I change my characters looks via 'showracemenu' in console.. It makes me unable to feed on people. I still retain everything about being a vampire, the spells and whatnot.
I have to load back to a much earlier save file now because my character cant feed and is more or less screwed.

I agree. A bug is something that's not supposed to happen when you do something that you are meant to do. Changing your race mid-game is not something you're meant to do. So it's your own fault

Yes, it counts as a bug or at least a technicality. You obviously missed the point as to why, Ill explain again.. Its the fact everything stays the same in every aspect for vampirism except being able to use the feed option. The feed option completely disappears.
Cant tell me its intended to do that. Bethesda knows full well people will use this cheat to change their appearance, it shouldnt screw their character over.

Changing your race mid game is something everyone does or has tried and if they havent they will at some point. The beauty of the pc version is mods and manipulating the game. We are encouraged to do those things. People use the change race/six option to cure bugs. Doing this though completely destroys your save file as the character is useless, unless you go cure vampirism assuming its possible as a level 4 vamp.

Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should.

Except what you're talking about is using a debugging and testing command and expecting Bethesda to change it to suit your needs when it's a feature NOT in the vanilla game. That's exactly what mods are for, so you'll have to wait until the CK comes out.

People use the change race/six option to cure bugs.
So they should fix those bugs instead of working on trying to make this debugging and testing command behave perfectly in every situation.

Doing this though completely destroys your save file as the character is useless, unless you go cure vampirism assuming its possible as a level 4 vamp.
I know plenty of ways to destroy your save file using console commands, and they're all not bugs. The console is there as a modder's resource, as a way to fix some bugs, to tweak your game for your own amusemant, with the caveat there can be undesired results.

This exact argument was used with the problems concerning using "Immortal Mode" (tim) and I think most of us stand by that Bethesda has way too much to do already, so many real bugs to fix, to add something like this to their plate.

its like saying you made it possible to kill an important npc and then killed it via console and now you can't continue on your main story line and ask bethesda to fix it. some actions in console will cause bugs, and even in oblivion there were bugs using that command, you should have known bugs may occur.

That's the developers console. That's like saying "I turned on God mode in Morrowind, but when I walked through a door I died, please fix thig bug" (this actually happened back then) - if you're using console commands, editing your ini files or using mods = you hold the responsibility, not bethesda. If there is time, maybe they can fix something that I'm sure not a whole lot of people use. Now if the game specifically said: "you can change your race at any time, just blablabla", it would be worth looking into.

@OP:
Have you seen any console commands to remove vampirisim completely? I'm thinking about a work around... Like, you remove it all, THEN change your race, and THEN re-activate vampirism? Have you tried that?

I agree, the commands are not for using while playing, they are for debugging and not for every day use.

Yes we can use them, but I was positive people understood that by using them it can have unforeseen outcomes.

This isn't a bug, definitively. Here's why: Vampire races are not "Playable" so, in the race menu, you've chosen a selectable, "Playable" race that is not a vampire. To change your race and remain a vampire, use ~Player.SetRace , that is the EditorID of your character's races vampiric equivalent.
  • ArgonianRaceVampire "Argonian Vampire" [RACE:0008883A]
  • BretonRaceVampire "Breton Vampire" [RACE:0008883C]
  • DarkElfRaceVampire "Dark Elf Vampire" [RACE:0008883D]
  • HighElfRaceVampire "High Elf Vampire" [RACE:00088840]
  • ImperialRaceVampire "Imperial Vampire" [RACE:00088844]
  • KhajiitRaceVampire "Khajiit Vampire" [RACE:00088845]
  • NordRaceVampire "Nord Vampire" [RACE:00088794]
  • OrcRaceVampire "Orc Vampire" [RACE:000A82B9]
  • RedguardRaceVampire "Redguard Vampire" [RACE:00088846]
  • WoodElfRaceVampire "Wood Elf Vampire" [RACE:00088884]
Oh! Don't forget to ~Set PlayerIsVampire to 1
