Vampirism Improvements

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:16 pm

Now, being a vampire certainly Has its pros and cons (pro:stat boost) (con:sun damage) now i dont lnow about you but i really hated the sun damage because it wouldnt let you fast travel or even just travel during the day. So i think we need to change this.

First: Vampires should not be affected by tge sun if they are in any type of (fully covered by) shadow. thick forests should offer shade with few sunspots that need to be avoided. Sun rays do a crapload more damage but vampires are warned before they exit buildings.

If a vampire is fully clothed from head to toe in thick clothing then they should be protected ( hood, boots, robe).

I hate how ugly vampires get in such a short time, i want to maintain my normal looks, except pale skin.

Please comment and add ideas. Feel free to disagree on anything i have already mentioned.

Well vampires are completely different in Skyrim, so I'm guessing if they're in then there will be quite a few new game mechanics.

I think being directly in the sunlight should apply a major debuff to the player, for example, reducing health magic and stamina by 50% while in it. Once you're out of the direct sun, your max health mana and stamina is restored, and they slowly rejuvenate.

Sun damage was a decent game mechanic, but ultimately was annoying because of the restrictions it put on travel and resting, but I don't think vampires should walk in the sun with no downside (this isn't twilight >.<).

I agree with the OP about the vampire appearence, in Oblivion it looked like it instantly aged you 50 years lol, it should just give you fangs and pale skin.

We should react like this:

Much more damage when being hit by something while in direct sun light in addition to always. Basically a weakness to everything effect that depends ont he level of "sun weakness" we have at the moment. But the overall though of getting weaker when drinking blood should also be taken away, we should start suffer from sun weakness if we don't feed regulary, and would slowly lose the bonuses we have of being a vampire, making us really want to keep us fed, instead of purposly starving us :/

One cool feature to the possible survival/hardcoe mode: Vampires wouldn't need to eat, drink or sleep, only feed on blood :)

Maybe the possibility to join a vampire clan? Kind of like a guild or faction.

I kind of like how it was in Oblivion, except how Khajiit, Argonians and Orcs all got the same set of red eyes, if they need to really improve something, it would be that each race has it's own set of eyes and maybe remove the constant updates of all the vampire abilities and other things being added and removed.

Well, in the elderscrolls world, vampires aren't a single type of race. The Volkihar Clan that is supposed to dominate Skyrim will likely be different from the Cyrodillic vampires in Oblivion. There is a reference to them in older games of being able to reach through solid ice.

A minus resistance to all forms of damage depending on the level of sunlight would be cool. In full, glaring, sunlight you can die in a single hit because you're so weak, but on a cloudy day you're not as affected.

Or there could just be the damage system (I don't see what's wrong with it).

Wrong. People with Xeroderma Pigmentosum can't go outside without UV blocking clothing, and even then, it's dangerous. XP is sort of like Vampirism, in that your body doesn't heal from exposure to the sun, or any UV light for that matter. Half an hour in the sun would cook you, literally. Now a good mage who has an interest in vampirism may decide to make a cloak that prevents sun damage, but normal clothing is next to nothing against the sun.

Whichs why i stated that the clothing must be THICK or like you mentioned, uv blocking. Say perhaps a potion that is added to an item of clothes making it uv resistant

Sorry i want sun damage and to only be able to go out at night. One of the cons of having the immense power of vamparic ability. Also it makes it really cool when you see the daytime again after the cure quest.

Shouldn't water them down bro

You are thinking in terms of light. It's not the light, it's the radiation. Vampires aren't affected by candles, or light bulbs. Radiation from the sun penetrates a heck of a lot. You'd have to wear a tank. Or drive a tank.

Yes. Burn in the sun for vampires. Cyrodilic vampires should walk in the day like they could in Oblivion(Yes, if we fed we can walk in the day, so don't complain that you took freaking sun damage! It's YOUR FAULT)

I want to see vampires in Skyrim actually come out at night to seek out victims instead of wating in dungeons, and NPC's that can contract porphyric hemophilia.

and joinable vampire clans

When it comes to vampires, here's what I want:

1. I do want sun damage; maybe let you go out in the sun for a short time (with severe weakness) if you stay well fed.
2. All the benefits of vampirism should be tied to staying well-fed. None of this starving yourself to gain power.
3. No old man face. A well-fed vampire should look normal, maybe just a little pale, and with the red eyes, but that's it. When starved, they become increasingly more gaunt in appearance.
4. Don't bring back Morrowind's "everyone knows your a vampire, and shuns you" system. If you feed, you should blend into society.
5. Multiple vampire clans, if not as guilds or factions, then at least as the bundle of abilities you get. And put a little more thought into what each clan is, I don't want a repeat of Daggerfall's "each clan is just the generic vampire with one other random ability tacked on" system, or Morrowind's need to use the fighter-mage-thief system for everything.

That about sums it up

I would like to see the uglier look taken away. It would be real cool to join a clan, i'm sure there are more then just one in each province/realm. Sun damage is all part of being a Vampire, that's why they are called creatures of the night. Please keep all Twilight-like stuff out, that would totally kill it for me. Maybe be able to heal your vampirism, and then if you want to become one again, have to go through a ritual of sorts to become one again. I think you should get younger as you drink blood, and all the special powers should be like perks that you pick when you level up, so that maybe you could become one of the most powerful vampires in all of Skyrim. i also think that you should be able to bottle human blood when you kill human bandits and whatnot, and when you need to feed, if you want, you can use the bottled human blood. Clothing i dont think should protect you too much, maybe lessen the damage by like 50% or something. I also think NO sun damage when it's cloudy, or when you're in deep shade, like under a bridge or something like that. That's all i got for now.

And it would be cool to turn NPC's into Vampires.

I think the pros and cons of vamprism in previous Bethesda games were well balanced. Sun damage could be minimised slightly, perhaps with the use of cloaks like you said, or maybe just inherently. If wearing a certain type of clothing distinguished the primary weakness of being a vampire almost everybody would choose to be one. The choice should be suitably difficult.

He wanted to know about the vampires of eastern Skyrim. I told him about the most powerful tribe, the Volkihar, paranoid and cruel, whose very breath could freeze their victims' blood in the veins. I explained to him how they lived beneath the ice of remote and haunted lakes, never venturing into the world of men except to feed.

"Your advice helped me very much," he said. "But you should know that the Volkihar have an additional ability you didn't mention. They can reach through the ice of their lakes without breaking it. It was quite a nasty surprise, being grabbed from below without any warning."

I really hope their gonna stick to the lore of these vampires.

It would be good to come across a vampire out hunting, although I don't know how difficult it would be to have an NPC get p.h., seeing as they would have to change all of their routines when they got it, and you might run the risk of ending up with towns full of vamps if they stay at home and feed on the neighbours. :P
