Vampirism: Life and Death.

Post » Tue Jan 11, 2011 1:43 pm

Hey guys,

So... I've played through Oblivion many hundreds of times, with many hundreds of characters. One thing I've only ever done once is become a vampire on purpose. This evening I picked up my copy of Oblivion with the aim of living is a vampire. Could you please answer me a few quick questions?

1. Where to live? - It seems that the constant thirst for blood would mean that easy access to sleeping NPC's is required. Ideas?

2. How to turn? - Where is a possitive place to begin looking for vampires. (No spoilers please!).

3. Skills? - Can you suggest any skills that would be either an advantage or disadvantage to a vampire when choosing Majors?

Thanks in advance,

George

1. The Waterfront is a good place since there are usually a few beggars sleeping near your house.
2. During the Dark Brotherhood quest you will have the opportunity. Hope that isn't a spoiler :)
3. Sneak would probably be good for when you feed.

Any city would be a good place to live, as all of them have at least a few beggars. They sleep out in the open, so they are easy marks.

As gmdon said, a good sneak is helpful. Or perhaps getting to 100% chameleon. I also second his suggestion about joining the Dark Brotherhood.

If I may suggest, someone posted like a month ago one very creative and challenging character concept: a Paladin (or Knight or Crusader, whatever u wanna call it) cursed with Vampirism. Someone sworn to uphold a code of true virtue and honour, facing the dillemma of giving in to the physical needs or suffering the consequences of keeping an unstained soul.

I personally saw no better example of a deep character. Gold Medal to that one (if I could remember it, if interested, research topics dealing exactly with vampires / vampirism).

like kacj321 said the vile lair is your best bet (assuming you aren't on PS3). Otherwise for roleplaying you could live in skingrad (you feel safe living in a city ruled by a vampire) cheydinhal (the darkest city of them all seems fitting) anvil (so many drunken pirates and sailors, who would notice if a few went missing) or Kvatch (too soon?). You could really have an explanation for living anywhere but those were the best I could think of.
I don't really have a recommendation for when to turn, maybe in sundercliff watch
As for skills, what I do with characters I know I want to become a vampire on is choose one of the vampire enemy types and make a spin off of it, so you could really go anywhere with your majors. Sneak and blade are the only 2 I would say you need to have. All my vampires have mysticism too.

1) rosenthorn manor is good 'cause of the maid who sleeps in the basemant. I like anvil waterfront with the two inns with sleeping victims. Every mages guild around cyrodiil has sleeping victims and no stupid porter following you around.
2) vamp dungeons, of course
3) sneak
4) you didn't ask this, but dunmer is the best race to be a vampire due to the high fire resistance to balance out the vampire weakness to fire.
