Vanilla UI compared to mods

Who likes the user interface? Maybe because I use hotkeys....and almost never have to go to my favorites menu...

I take a look at things like at SKYUI and it just urks me.

Whenever I look at the interface PC players use, that just looks confusing to me.

I actually like the ones we lowly consoles users have.

I just don't understand what all the fuss is about with pc players. I press 4, boom invisibility potion, press 5, boom, healing potion. I press 2, boom, I got my bow.

I don't get it.

I didn't hate the default UI, but I prefer SkyUI, I just like that I can see more things in my inventory without having to scroll through it as much. I have my favorties menu the same, it's larger than the default one so everything is ready to see without needing to scroll through it. Just feels more convenient for me.

I also use hotkeys and my first character was a mage so I got pretty good at flipping through them quickly as well.

I can actually see the object's 3-d model, so to me that is more effecient. SkyUI looks like something out of MS DOS, imo.

You can still see the 3d model in Sky UI, it's off to the right just like it is in the default version.

SkyUI is one of those essential mods for me. Not just the favorites menu. I mean the vanilla favorites menu is just a list. The SkyUI is categorized Which I guess it's really the separate mod that allows a completely customizable favorites menu. Either way it is a lot better than scrolling down a list.

I actually don't go into it that much as I too get my hotkeys set and I'm good to go. None the less SkyUI is a lot more than just a favorites menu. I mean you can manipulate the fonts, change the icons and don't forget the amazing abilities you have with MCM.

SkyUI, SKSE and of course iHUD make up the core that I must have or the game just doesn't get turned on.

I played with the Default UI for very long time, and I liked it fine. Then after a few months, I installed SkyUI, and I liked it a lot. I especially like the text filtering feature. If I want something, I just start typing it and it just pops up. No need to scroll through the list. I find it very convenient. If I'm forced to stop using SkyUI, I would probably feel some pain getting used to it again, and I will probably change the way I play quite a bit.

Another popular UI enhancement is Categorized Favorites. It's quite nice, but for me not nearly as important. I wouldn't it miss it too much. Maybe that means I'm not taking full advantage of it.

I used the QD Inventory mod for a long time, swapping to SkyUI as more mods started using MCM.

I like having more items listed on a page - saves a lot of scrolling, especially when teamed up with Categorized Favorites Menu.

As noted previously the filter option can also be a time saver

I doubt I could return to using the vanilla UI.

I like both. I started out on the xbox and had no issues. SkyUI was one of the first mods I installed on the pc mainly because it was recommended not because I have anything against the vanilla one.

I prefer vanilla UI to SkyUI.... I prefer the simpler design.

I still have SkyUI, because I need it to run another mod that I have.

You still see the 3D model. I don't know where you're looking that it doesn't show it. A simple search of Skyui on google images shows the 3d model.

Instead of scrolling for hours on end, I can actually see where all my items are. I could also quickly type it in the search bar.

I'll give it a try, there's a mod I had been using for a long time but can't anymore because it requires it.

I'd rather have the PC user one that Fredrick linked.

Well there is a reason why Skyui is the most popular Skyrim mod ever!

I use it because I like being able to search for one specific item in my un-passable maze of random crap. I like it because (only recently) it can help me manage some mods. It can also clean up your save files by deleting scripts from old mods (apparently. I've never used it myself). I also just prefer the look of it. It's not as cramped.

I couldn't imagine life without SKYUI, it just makes skyrim so much better to manage. Before my mouse wasn't even supported and I had to use my keyboard awkwardly to go through the menus..it was clearly build with the console in mind and the finger to PC uses.

I use a wireless trackball mouse and Razer Nostromo. Up until a few months ago I was pretty happy with the vanilla UI and any compatibility / key-binding issues present at launch were fixed for me with the first patch back in November 2011. However, I've since learned about so many cool things you can do with SkyUI's mod config menu, and it is generally faster and easier to navigate.

At this point, I don't think I could go back to vanilla.

I like the vanilla UI. I use SkyUI because it is required by some of my mods, but I think SkyUI's icons make the menus look uglier than the vanilla UI. So I revert SkyUI's appearance back to vanilla.

I do absolutely love MCM, though. I think MCM is one of the most brilliant things to happen to Elder Scrolls modding in years.
