Various types of Khajiit in game

Post » Wed Jun 05, 2013 2:19 pm

Does each TES game have its own specific type of Khajiit that is featured? I know that there are multiple types of Khajiit but in each game we only ever see one archetype it seems like. Does anyone know which games feature which types of Khajiit (sources would be helpful!) and is there a "lore" reason why we don't see more than one type per game or is it simply a game mechanic (or both)?

Well, we've had Ohmes Khajiit to start with in Arena, Ohmes-raht in Daggerfall, and Suthay-raht in Morrowind.

For Oblivion and Skyrim, there's a bit of a debate whether they're Suthay-raht, since they just seemed like a re-occurring species since Morrowind, but some believe them to be Cathay, due to the lack of digitigrade legs, (I personally think they're still suthay-raht, the Plantigrade legs seem more of laziness, overlooked, or just ran out of time to do digitigrade)

but we can't be exactly sure since there are no remarks of what type of Khajiit are used in Oblivion or Skyrim.

Well, Beth said they tried to implement digitigrade legs in Skyrim, but ran into many meshing issues.

Yeah I saw that post, that's why I still think they're suthay-raht.

I think it has been specifically stated or at least implied that it is the Suthay-Raht in Oblivion, and IS in fact confirmed that the Khajiit in ESO at launch is also Suthay-Raht. The lore on the Suthay-Raht was retconned from being digitigrade to being plantigrade with Oblivion and was carried over into ESO, which is why I think the Khajiit designs in Skyrim were so different from the previous games, because I think they were intended to be one of the other types of Khajiit and therefore explaining why they would have had a different leg structure if they would have been able to finish them on time. After all, the Khajiit in Morrowind, Oblivion and ESO tend to be kind of lion-like (and sometimes tiger-like or cheetah-like) in appearance, while in Skyrim they looked more lynx-like and really didn't look much like lions at all.
