[RELz] VASE - VAcuity's Spirits and Ephemerals

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:59 am

I hope you enjoy the challenge! Heavens, I hope they *give* you a challenge: they should be decently balanced...

Well...I could always modify them in the CS to make them a bit harder. :toughninja: That's not uncommon for me to do. :D

No specific plans, no. I've got some mockup meshes to make for someone we won't name (he may not need them anymore though  ), some boss creatures for Iliana, some resources for Koniption and I'm waiting for Haama to send me a pre-release version of Cobl so I can update II (and there's a *lot* to update there). Those are my immediate plans. I should also write wiki articles on what I learned while doing VASE as there's a lot of stuff I learned by trial and error (and error, and error, and error) that isn't to be found anywhere on the internet. And then, I guess a new project. I have to pick which of my ideas I want to see come to life the most.

Vac

Wow! You certainly have a lot on your plate! And those Wiki articles might prove very helpful for some ideas I have for my current project. :D

Edit: Almost forgot, I'm also going to update this with lighting effects and possibly new sound sets sometime soon-ish as well.

Sweet! Looking foreward to it!

[edit]Woops, talk about being blind. All of this was asked and anwsered in http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?s=&showtopic=1055519&view=findpost&p=15391934. That's what I get for not reading up before I bother people with my questions. :embarrass:[/edit]
It happens to us all. And I've always got more time for people who spot their mistakes.

You're welcome to make them harder for yourself, but bear in mind that there's 2185 creature entries there, so it'll be a little tedious to edit them all just for a personal tweak. Your better bet would be to make the spells hit harder and make the resistances tougher.

Yes, I've got a fair bit of stuff I want to do. And doing wiki articles would be useful for a lot of people, I suspect. Not least if it got more people capable of working with particle systems, but seriously, when I was trying to work things out there was just no documentation of use on stuff like the Turbulence Fields and Vortex Fields. If I write up how to configure them then more people can use them.

Hello! Thought I might give this a well deserved *BUMP* as well as announcing that I have updated my scripts for light effects, with one especially designed with wisps in mind (ie that it removes the light when they go invisible whilst running) I've not made a new token for them, but the script is done, and it is simplicity itself to make one (check the readme from the first files I sent you)

This is an excellent resource, and a fantastic mod! Good work Vac!

Just a question about installation. Please forgive my opacity in advance, and without further ado:

vi) Remove the files you installed back in step i. Rebuild your Bashed Patch and wait for x number of days all over again or until you're bored.

Does this mean that we are supposed to remove the ESM and ESP files we installed earlier, after our characters have rested sufficiently to cause the new critters to spawn in the game?

I downloaded this a while ago and have been eagerly awaiting seeing one of these magnificent creatures ingame, but as of yet have had no luck. Is there any way for me to check whether things are appearing correctly, and where am I most likely to come across them?
Edit: Never mind, just came across a virvatuli in Black Marsh. Too bad I had swapped by silver longsword for an akaviri 2h :P

Bump, per my question, above. I figure anybody who's successfully installed the mod should be able to tell me whether to follow the instruction, above. ;)

fable2, if you read the readme carefully you'll notice that each part is labelled, and that section is labelled "uninstallation". So, if you're trying to uninstall VASE then you should follow those instructions. Otherwise, don't follow that step.

Bodenvalot, glad you found something worth finding. Blackwood and creature dungeons are the best places to find these creatures. Bad luck with having swapped out your weapon though!

Vacuity, thanks for the response. The problem is that you have each step labeled correctly in your List of Contents, but not in your Instructions. This is your list:

1 - Installation/deinstallation
i) Preamble
ii) Plugin choice
iii) Load order
iv) Bashed patch
v) Respawn
vi) Deinstallation

...and this is your sixth step under Installation, with no mention of "deinstallation":

vi) Remove the files you installed back in step i. Rebuild your Bashed Patch and wait for x number of days all over again or until you're bored.

If you're like me, you go directly to any readme area touching on conflicts, and then to Installation, which you read through carefully. The fact that the way to remove the mod is simply stated right as part of installation is a bit of a problem.

Just a thought if you do another version at some point: consider creating a separate section for Deinstallation. Both for accuracy and continuity.

Best of luck, and thanks again for your quick response.

Hmm, fair point that separation of installation and uninstallation instructions could be clearer. I'll see about editing that part of the readme for when I get around to making an update in that case. As I'm now into my sixth week with bronchitis I'm not too sure when that's going to be. -_-

Hah, I've had asthma pretty much all my life: bronchitis+asthma=not much fun.

Anyway, just a note that VASE is now http://hazevalley.ru/downloads.php?page_id=198 as well.

There's also an update on the way, but nothing too amazing, just a few tweaks. Here's some WIP shots of the new Higgs attack systems: http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll61/Revanchism/WilloftheWisps/NewHiggsCircle.jpg,http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll61/Revanchism/WilloftheWisps/NewHiggsCircle2.jpg,http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll61/Revanchism/WilloftheWisps/NewHiggsCircle3.jpg,http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll61/Revanchism/WilloftheWisps/NewHiggsCircle4.jpg. It'll be a little different to that when I finish though.

I think I just crapped myself a little  To hell w/ the gas clouds, Vacuity should be writing new books and lore  The op is a masterpiece, lol. On a serious note though, fantastic work m8. I'm curious, how will the 'Command Creature' spell affect these delightful monsters? My Warlock seeks ultimate magical power, domination, and perhaps a small village up the coast (bonus nerd points for anyone who gets the reference). So I would love to have one of these guys as a familiar (pet), or even a regular summon. Bookmarked for immediate trials, once my new hdd arrives.

cool mod. :) good job, I would deffo dl if I was still at Ob.

just wanted to point out the linky in the first post to dl the russian version, is a photobucket link.

and I'll also point out that in all likely hood if you, or someone, does something similar in tes5(hopefully possible as exporting custom particles into f3 is beyond me), the particle effect file sizes would drop considerably. nifs that end up being several meg, would be a fraction of that. Just one improvement to the game engine and nif format since F3.

Heh, thanks for the compliments. Command creature should work much the same on these as on any other creature in the game, but as for pets or summons, bg2408 has had some custom resources supplied to him for a higgs in LAME and that's about it. I've had a couple of requests for custom creatures for other mods which I will do when I have time and these are resources as well. There's no reason for people not to use them in their own mods.

Fixed, cheers for pointing out the copy/paste error. :)

Hmm, that's a good way off though, I guess. And I did all of the work in NifSkope anyway, so no issues with exporting were involved. Lots of other issues, but not that one.

Is that the result of the "Phoenix inspiration" you had mentioned earlier? It looks great. Also, I've tested both techniques I mentioned (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_pZCd1hKe_w and geommorphing) for morphing complex particles and to my surprise they both work. This engine is amazing. I'll be happy to share the work if you'd like.

My apologies for not replying last night (my time) Xilver; once again life is throwing stuff at me to make sure I have no free time.

That looks *very much* like what I had been trying to achieve previously, obviously different in the details, but the idea is very much in the same vein. If you've got a sample mesh then I'd be very interested to take a look at it. I think I need to look at the meshes Midas Magic uses in greater detail at some point as well.

The new Higgs attack circle is indeed the inspiration from the Phoenix, but it's just a mock-up and needs serious tweaking/refining (and the fact I'm wanting more of an in-your-face explosion of light also differs).

Cheers for the interest/response!

The Higgs is named after the so-called "God particle", right?
