VATS In an Elder Scrolls Game...sorta.

You would have to be skilled in magic to use this ability.

I was not thinking straight magic, but more like an innate ability like those from birthsigns.

I think that would be a little unfair to warrior & stealth/archer type classes.
Like i said just maybe not do exactly like vats, where it pauses the game....do it so the game knows that your next hit/strike etc, would finish your enemy off.
Just give us the option to use finishing moves & watch them in slow mo from a different angle, but not everytime you kill someone...make a little rarer,so its not as repetitive
just capture the cinamatic feel of a kill ( similar to fallout ),but dont let us pause the game.
Maybe how often that happens could be down to a certain stat ,higher luck,or the enemies fatigue etc.
It would add a liitle to an already great game if done right & not every kill.
Just my view :)
It would also be a great way for people to share funny moments or show some great kills etc.

I voted 'no', but I am leaning towards the "maybe".

Like ESC... Extra Sensory Combat.

I could see it as something for non-magical types, to give them something to use their magicka on. I can't see it for spellcasting, though. Call it "focused attacks" or something like that, have it use the currently equipped weapon like VATS does, and have it consume Magicka in place of AP, with the attacks also consuming the normal amount of Fatigue (or for marksman at skill levels below 25, a set amount of Fatigue per attack, since above 25, no Fatigue is used for Marksman attacks; below 25, fatigue drains for as long as you hold the arrow nocked). Bows would all consume the same amount of magicka per "focused attack", and melee weapons would use an amount based on their weight.

This would also impact one's ability to use magic during or after the fight, or use "focused attacks" after casting spells.

Maybe... Here's why:

There were so many times I ended up hitting a companion/bystander because they just happened to be too close to my intended target. Assaults? I try playing a goody-two shoes and end up getting bounties, assaults, and even murders on occasion for trying to survive when a monster starts slamming on me and Oblivion's AI (and my lack of real peripheral vision) sends somebody, like an idiot, runs into the path of my mighty sword. In one case, I went to go kill a daedra in the end game, a guard runs at my target and I hit him once. As there were daedra around, the guards ignored me, but the guard got himself killed by another daedra and I got another murder racked up....

If it could be done right, where you don't just hit anybody in range of your sword, a VATS-ish system would be good. I don't like the idea of a full-on system for close combat (especially the time stops), and I think that even for ranged combat, a VATS copy would be bad (sneak+headshot would probably kill anything on the field).

Devs, are you listening?

No VATS please, A better combat system yes but not VTAS its to unrealistic and takes away from the fantasy/real life experience that people so love. I thought the idea of magic time stopping was ok that someone said before, but mainly due to we need different magic but not VTAS

I'd say Bethesda is almost certainly going to implement some sort of VATS like system in TES V...

A targeting system similar to Legend of Zelda or Fable.

Why?

Two reasons,

1 Normal combat in the past two tes games svcked.

2 It was hugely successful in Fallout 3.

 Matter of opinion. I like the core combat system of the ES games, though it certainly has room for improvement. VATS was a throwback to Fallout's original top-down, turn-based combat. It was a concession to the Fallout [censored] who otherwise would have (and, in the end, still did) label the game Oblivion with guns.

Only if it were sort of a flashy cinematic for the kills. Like for instance in Fable 2, when you killed something, it would occasionally show a cool camera angle with a cool flourishing move. That would be acceptable, only to add cinematics to a mostly first person game.

I voted for Maybe because I think it would be unbalanced if used in TES and I would become addicted to it anyway :P Maybe if it was something like the Dead Eye system in Red Dead Redemption...a spell that would slow time down and make you have enough time to do a more precise hit on wherever yo uwanted it to be.
