You would need high Agility, you actually can get more starting AP in New Vegas then in Fallout 3. You should take Kamikaze as a Trait obviously, but it definitely seems doable.

Note: It's not Fallout 3: New Vegas, it's just Fallout: New Vegas. It is not an expansion of Fallout 3, its a whole different game. I'm going to warn you now that the title of this thread is going to really annoy a few of people.

What he said, the Agility pays off too.

But a question if you don't mind. What do you mean by 'effective'?
Because IMHO, I've found VATS in Fallout 3 to be an instant unbalanced god-mode.

FO3 Vats reduced incoming damage by like 85% or some ridiculous amount, which made it broken as hell. I remember I would specifically enter VATS just for the hell of it if I saw a rocket or mini nuke about to hit me for that very reason.

New Vegas, VATS only reduces incoming damage by like 35% or something, so VATS actually makes you pretty vulnerable, since now you can't dodge.

Personally I think pure VATS is kind of difficult. Fast Shot allows you to stay in VATS but nerfs your accuracy, Trigger does the opposite. End-game? Sure, but that's end-game...

Only reason I ever use VATS in FO3 is because of the non-iron sites or whatever

Vats was never effective except close up IMO. You're better off learning to shoot on your own.

I mainly use VATS with high RoF weapons that have good ammo capacity and high 'per shot' damage. That way I can quickly snap off a couple rounds precisely into some heads to reduce a swarm to managable size, or to pick off enemies with explosive weapons.

I agree in terms of handguns, submachine guns, etc. But with high small guns skills and a few perks using rifles was insanely accurate and overpowered and would one shot everything. Except a reaver or overlord.

To answer the question in your thread title, no, VATS is not as effective in New Vegas as it was in Fallout 3. I only used VATS once throughout my time playing New Vegas. The refined shooting mechanics of the game make the feature obsolete.

True, But in general I use my silenced sniper rifle, no need for VATS if you know how to aim

@Thread- Grow up people. There's been many times people say 'Fallout 3:New Vegas', and it will happen again, if it bothers you that much, you really don't have much of a life if something so petty sets you off.

I usually don't use VATS. With Guns Ironsights is simply better and with Melee VATS is just completely unnecessary. It usually just ends up me watching my character stand stock-still and slack-jawed like a [censored] while my enemies pummel me in slow motion when I use VATS.

Probably because it's just stupid on its face.

Now I'm off to play Final Fantasy VII:Tactics:XIII-2.

Whats Fallout 3: New Vegas, is that a spin off of a spin off set using the primative style of Fallout 3 - I hope it uses Mothership Zeta as a base plot.

V.A.T.S is V.A.T.S, is only as effective as pausing the whole living world and firing in slow-mo Matrix style can be.

The refined shooting mechanics of the game make the feature obsolete.

Only if you like having a Call of Duty:Wasteland experience.
There are people who like having options that prevent the game from being a pure FPS in the first place.
Also, VATS helps a lot when it gets to saving ammo.
I happily use both systems, depending on the situation and my personal mood.
