Vault 106 Issue

Post » Wed Sep 29, 2010 12:40 pm

Correct me if I am wrong but didnt the expierments start 10 days after it closing and assuming most inhabitants were killed shortly after minus the survivors. That was in 2077 so that would make the insane survivors over 200 years old. so here's my concern/issue, I know they could have stayed aliv by using the vault's supplies seeing as how all the others were dead. but how in the heck could they have survived for 200 years? I know Vault 106 didnt have that much supplies in stock/ what I wanna know is how are they still alive?

I always thought they were recent move-in's from the outside. Most likely scavengers looking to loot the place. Problem is however that vault is like a mouse trap, you can get in no problem but you can never leave.

If they're scavvers who moved in, why are they wearing Vault 106 jumpsuits?

One of the few things that are abundant maybe? I really don't know where they came from but I really doubt that Gary and friends are 200+ years old. From what I remember from the logs one wouldn't have to be in there all that long before the affects started to take place.

Just because they went insane, why does that mean they can't reproduce?

Because reproduction isn't just about conception. I don't think the people in Vault 106 could look after a baby, and we're talking multiple generations.

Didn't think about that.

What about extended life being a "side effect" of the gas?

There are other characters of considerable age in the game so it wouldn't be a precedent..... but a part of me just thinks it's a mistake by the writers.

If they are insane though they aren't likely to be able to raise a child into advlthood.

I would go with scavengers. I noticed a lot of them have raider style hair. Did wonder about this myself though.

They're probably scavengers/raiders that went in trying to find supplies but they stayed in too long so they went insane, so they probably wouldn't want to leave. I still don't know why they're wearing Vault 106 Jumpsuits.

I see it as just bad story telling. The Vault should not have has insane vault dwellers in it (people in vault suits). The people should have just been wastelanders that moved in and went insane. It could have been a great place. A cult could have formed around the Vault. Could have been "oracles" that see the future (in reality they just went insane) living deep within the Vault.

The vault could've only just recently went to hell. It was fine and dandy until a year or two before the Wanderer emerged.

It simply has no explanation. The developers just wanted to include a vault invented by a developer of the original Fallouts, and some level designer hated empty dungeons so he put a number of half-Raiders in there.

I think that the only explanation that makes sense is that they're a bunch of wastelanders who moved into the vault. It wasn't hard to find, and the door was easy enough to open. And they might have just found the suits in lockers or whatever. If they had been there for 200 years, there would have been women, children, and old people either among the attackers or among the corpses.
