Jonathan kept following this "ghoul".

"Where are we going?" asked Jonathan.

"Back to my shack, you're going to need new clothes."

"Why?"

"To blend in more."

"Fine."

The sun was beginning to set while Jonathan and Sheena were hungry and tired.

"Do you have any food back there?"

"Yeah, Don't you worry."

They eventually came up to the shack only it wasn't a shack, it looked like a bunker.

"You call this a shack!" Sheena yelled surprised at what was in front of them.

"Okay so it ain't a shack who cares. Wait here."

"Jonathan and Sheena sat outside waiting for the ghoul to come back.

"This place looks unreal, its all barren." Sheena said looking at the horizon.

"Yeah... I hope we can survive out here."

"Don't say that, we'll live through this, we will adapt."

"I hope so."

The ghoul was coming out of the bunker.

"Here put these on."

The ghoul passed Jonathan some leather armor and Sheena a t-shirt and jeans. They both put their respective clothes on.

"Well this leather outfit fits me good."

"Mine does too!"

"Yeah they do." The ghoul said

"Come inside ill give you guys some food."

They stepped in side and were amazed at the amount of space there was. Jonathan noticed a sign that said armory above a door.

"What's in there?"

"Don't know never could get it open."

Sheena saw the terminal next to the door. "I bet I can open it!" She said enthusiastically.

"Really?"

"Yeah I learned to hack from my brother."

Sheena walked up to the terminal and activated it while the ghoul pulled out some mirelurke cakes and Brahmin steak.

"Here eat this and give sum to the lady."

"Thanks, whats your name by the way?"

"Jonathan and she's Sheena."

"Oh i'm Marcus."

"Okay, Marcus got it."

"I opened it guys!" Sheena yelled. The door began to open slowly. Everyone hoped for different things. When it fully opened it only revealed to have some meds and a few weapons.

"Thats it?" said Jonathan.

"I guess so." Sheena walked up to them grinning due to the fact that she opened up the door. Jonathan passed her her food and they began eating.

Caine awoke suddenly as he heard several blood curdling screams from just outside his shack, immediately grabbing his .223 revolver and crouching beside the door. He slowly cracked the door and peeked outside to see several emaciated creatures gnawing on the guard that was placed outside for his protection. "What in the holy hell are those things?!" he said louder then he intended. One in tattered leather armor zeroed in on him instantly and rushed the flimsy shack door, knocking it down with disturbing ease.

Caine quickly fired off three rounds into the creatures torso, each round creating large holes. Unfortunately the creature seemed not to notice and swiped at Caine anyway, slashing his face with a gnarled claw. Blood began to seep into his eye as he fired the remaining two rounds into the freaks head, blowing it apart.

As it's mangled corpse fell to the ground Caine began cleaning the gash with a somewhat clean rag, then tying it around his head and reloading his revolver with his last five rounds. "Helluva time to run of bullets..." he said as he peeked back outside to see if there were anymore of them.

He spotted two feeding on the corpse of Hannibal Hamlin and three more feeding on the woman that nearly shot him down earlier. "[censored]! I definitely don't have enough ammo to kill all of these sick [censored]s. Wait! That chicks rifle, not like she's usin' it anymore." Caine began scouring the blood soaked ground for gun metal, eventually finding a Chinese made assault rifle right next to one of the zombies.

"Alright Caine, it's crunch time. If you miss this svckers head your done, finished, absolutely and totally FUBAR." Caine took aim and leveled the revolver on the creatures head, slowing down his breathing in an attempt to calm his nerves. Eventually he got a bead on it's head and squeezed the trigger in one fluid motion, shearing off the freaks head in the blink of an eye.

Caine quickly ran over to the rifle and picked it up, firing on the remaining mutated creatures and severed three completely in half. Suddenly a clicking sound could be heard indicating that the weapon was dry. Caine threw it aside and drew his revolver, popping off a round into both of they're heads and downing them for good.

The immediate threats taken care of, Caine began to search the Temple for any survivors and found only badly mangled corpses. He looted what he could from the armory (three clips for the assault rifle he found and a box of thirty bullets for his revolver) and exited the gory scene, grimacing as he stared into the pitch black night.

He began walking east with his assault rifle in hand when he spotted a man in black combat armor, a white talon painted on his chest. The man noticed Caine at the same time and they drew on each other. As they began to inch closer to one another, the man yelled out something Caine almost didn't hear. "Drop your weapon and I'll make it quick 'n painless."

Caine chuckled at the mans show of confidence and drew a bead on his head, retorting with a scathing remark. "I don't care if you drop yours, I'm makin' it slow and nasty."

The man seemed to respect this, and lowered his weapon slowly. "Alright then, maybe there's a... whatcha m'callit... "Diplomatic solution" to this little meeting."

Caine was about to lower his weapon when he spotted several dark figures crouched on a nearby hill. Caine immediately opened fire on the man and hit him several times in the head, causing him to go down like a sack of potatoes. The figures stood up and fired several warning shots near the vault dwellers head and Caine threw down his weapon without resistance. He was brave and slightly psychotic at times, but not suicidal.

"Well, well. We got us a vault dweller here boys!", a big man in strange metal armor with spikes sticking out in several places said, noticing the vault jumpsuit under Caine's jacket. "Alright kid, the commanders instructed us to capture guys like you alive so don't make me go against my orders." Caine glared at the man and put his hands behind his back as shackles were placed on his wrists. "Fan-[censored]-tastic..."

After bypassing Old Olney, Richard and Judith continued walking southwest. At this point, it was now late afternoon and the sun was beginning to set. Richard said, "It's getting dark, and I definitely don't want to find out what lurks out here at night." They continued walking until they saw a farm. Richard saw people around a fire and was about to approach them when Judith grabbed him and dragged him behind a large rock. "What are you doing?", she hissed, "Take a closer look." Richard did as she said and noticed that these people were Raiders. One had a Combat Knife, while the other two were armed with 10 mm pistols.

Richard said, "I don't think we can get past them, and fighting them head-on isn't an option." Judith picked up a rock and said, "Then we'll have to use a subtler approach." She then threw the rock in the Raiders direction to distract them. As the Raiders looked in the direction of the rock, the duo snuck up and pounced. Richard slit the throat of one Raider, while Judth bashed in the skull of another Raider with her Lead Pipe. The knife wielding Raider dodged their blows and kicked Richard aside before knocking Judith to the ground. The Raider yelled, "I'm gonna bleed you like a stuck pig before I move on to your little boyfriend, [censored]." The Raider had forgotten that Richard was not unconsious, and he paid dearly when Richard used the pistol of one of the other Raiders to shoot him dead.

Richard then helped Judith up while saying, "Now we're even. Good plan by the way." Richard was then struck by the fact that this was the first time he'd ever killed a human, and his own brutality in doing so. Killing a Mole Rat was one thing, this was something else. Richard thought, "Am I no better than these psychos?", and judging by the look on Judith's face, she felt th same way. That feeling was replaced later by the thought, "This is the Wasteland, it's kill or be killed and those psychos would've killed both of us if they were in our place." the duo then searched the bodies, coming up with more ammo, Stimpacks, a needle of Med-X, and some strange meat (not that kind of strange meat). Judith said, clearly as bothered as he was but recognizing its necessity, "Let's find somewhere to sleep for the night." The duo kept walking until they found an abandoned house. Richard said, "I guess this'll do for now." Richard and Judith then entered the house.

Inside, they found the place mostly intact except for the main bedroom, which had a hole in the ceiling, but it also gave them a view of the night sky. As they looked up Richard said, "I've never seen the night sky before, except in my dreams." Judith said, "We're looking at it now and I have to say, it sure does look beautiful." Richard said, "Indeed, though we once again cheated death, this sky just seems to just take all of our troubles away." The duo then noticed they had unconsiously gotten closer together while talking. Since there was only one bed, Richard and Judith got on the main bed, which was big enough to hold both of them comfortably. The duo then talked for a while before falling asleep under the stars.

Steven sat up from his drug-induced sleep. The Med-X made him delirious, and his mistake Max for a raider. He whipped out his Beretta and beaded Max. Jessica saw what he did as soon as the pistol was removed from it's resting place. She lunged at his arm and the shot hit the roof, creating a small hole and a loud bang. Jess pressed the clip release button, but Steven didn't notice and dry fired a few times before his head cleared. He shook his head and blinked, quickly loaded the pistol and stood up. Without thinking, he put the gun to Max's forehead. He looked straight at Max, and sighed, dropped his aim and his head dropped again. "Dammit. Sorry Max, still a bit drugged up." he sat back down and took the slide off his gun before anything else happened. The pistol lay by his side, slide the other. Jessica looked worried and distressed. But most of all, tired. "Get some sleep, you look terrible."

"Well that's a nice thing to say to your girlfriend..." She stumbled through the sentence awkwardly.

"Just get some sleep." Steven cracked his neck and stood up again. His leg felt better, a few hours and a couple Stimpacks fixed him up. "Max, is there anything I can do?" He asked before looking around. He saw Ash asleep and pale. "Damn, he looks rough..." Steven sat on the edge of the bed and tussled his little brothers hair. He didn't show any acknowledgment. Steven stood up and put his pistol back together and stood before his father.

Nikolai walked slowly into his parents room, afraid of what he might find. His gun fell to the ground at the sight of his mother's bloody corpse on the floor.

Suddenly he heard the sound of a door sliding open and turned to see his father holding a bloody lead pipe. The two immediately hugged eachother and cried over their reunion. "Dad what happened to mom! Why is she dead!"

"One of them got inside when we were both hiding. He hit me over the head, and tried to have his way with your mother. S-She fought back, and when I came two,he had s-shot her. His dad said sobbing. His dad started acting out what happened, obviously still in shock."While he was laughing at your mother's corpse,I grabbed a lead pipe and I SMASHED HIS HEAD INNNNN!!!!!" He screamed in an enraged voice.

Hoover the security officer walked in,too busy checking the halls to see Nikolai. "Sir we cant stay here,we ar-,oh who are you?" Nikolai ignored him for now and tried to counsol his father.

"Look dad...We need to leave. Some of us are fighting back, but there are too many of them. A bunch of the survivors have already opened the vault door and escaped. We have to go too." As he tried to get his father up,he refused to move."I'm so sorry son,but I cant go."

"What! Are you insane! There is nothing left for us here. We have to go." Nikolai's father looked him right in the eye and said,"I cant leave her here alone. I couldn't protect her. She needed me and I failed, son. I'm not as young as I used to be. I wont survive a day up there. If I'm going to die,I'm dieing with the woman I love."

"Please dont do this to me. You say that now,but mom wants you to go on. She might be gone, but we're still here. We have to stay together!"

"Son I'm not lieing to myself or you. I'm scared. Simple as that. You have every right to hate me,and I deserve it. Just please,go. You live on for us,but its my right to choose where I die,and I choose to die here. Now go!"

Hoover grabbed Nikolai and started pulling him out of the room,he didn't struggle much. Nikolai was too deep in shock to fight. The last sight of his father Nikolai would ever make, was that of a man who had lost too precious of a reason to live to go on. To much of a loss to even be with his son.

Harley and Kate stepped out of the cave and into the world, to see some people running around yelling. The pair hadn't been noticed, there weren't any people around the door at this time, they were all spread out. Harley and Kate ran straight to a rock formation that was nearest the door, luckily without being noticed.

Once hiding in between the rocks, Harley looked at the people. He could see that they had guns and weren't like the freaks in the vault. They were wearing practical clothing, and weren't screaming and behaving oddly like the freaks were. But they still obviously weren't there to share stories around a camp fire.

"Ok, when we have a chance we'll run up that way and keep running" Harley said to Kate, who was now shaking with fear.

"a-a-alright" Kate replied.

"Take this" Harley took the wrench from her hand and replced it woth his loaded .32 pistol "If I start shooting, you pull this hammer back and point it at the bad man and squeeze the trigger, don't pull, squeeze"

He opened the toolbox and put the wrench back in, took out one of the other .32 pistols and loaded it.

"Ok, I'll try" Kate said to Harley, looking at the gun as though she was terrified it would go off in her face"

"Don't worry Kate, it won't go off unless you want it to" Harley tried to reassure her that the gun was as safe as the wrench was.

They hide in between the rocks for a while, until the people started moving around and had mostly gathered at the far side of the door. Harley grabbed Kate's hand and told her it was time for them to run like hell. And they did exactly that. The two of them took off running along the dirt with great speed, and reasonably silently.

Harley couldn't believe how fast a person could run when their life really depended on it. There wasn't much reason to run around in the vault, and when you did there wasn't much room to run far. As they ran they looked back to see....nothing, or, well, nobody. Nobody was chasing them, or shooting at them, nobody had even seen them.

Well that was the best luck they had so they decided to make the most of it and keep running like never before. After they had cover a great distance away for the vault they stopped to catch a breath. They couldn't even see the vault cave door or the people they were so far away.

"where do we go now?" Kate asked, "Which way do you think the others would have went?"

"I don't know Kate, I think we should keep going that way and see if we can see the area over that hill" Harley said pointing to a small mountain.

They started jogging towards the hill. After a while they managed to get to the hill and they climbed to the top the see what was around. And the Harley saw something that would give them some shelter until they figure out what to do next to find the others.

"Look Kate! Over there, houses!" he shouted at Kate. It was a small suburb of houses, most of which were completely destroyed there were a few still standing in reasonably good condition.

They ran down to the houses as fast as they could, only to find most of them boarded up. Some were locked but they found one unlocked. Judging by the condition of the door and the lock it was obvious it had only recently been opened. It was good enough for them, they pushed the door open and went inside the house.

"Oh, jeez" Harley said as he smelled the musty oder. They went in to the kitchen and found nothing, there was nothing of use. After looking around each room all they found was a dead body in the bathtub.

"Oh Damn! They've taken everything!" Harley yelled. Someone had gone into the house and removed anything and everything of any use, pillows, mattresses, everything.

"Maybe we should check another house?" Kate asked, "I'm sure you could smash the door open".

"Yeah lets go check the one across the road" Harley replied as they walked out the front door.

They crossed the road to a house with the doors and windows boarded up, which soon changed after Harley ripped the boards off the door with a mini crowbar from his toolbox. They went inside to find the house smelling of the same musk the previous house had. Only this house wasn't looted like the other, there was a couch, table, beds, everything they could use to get some rest.

They sat on the couch, put the toolbox and all their stuff on the coffee table in front of the couch so it could all be sorted through and added to from stuff from the house. Harley put his arm around Kate as they talked about if they would meet up with their friends, or if they were all dead. After a while they dozed off.........

After a few more trips with the trolley to collect everything from the house including the mattresses, he decided it was time to investigate the concrete building that was in the quarry. He took his hunting rifle with him and stepped inside...

It seemed to be some kind of quarry headquarters. As you walk in the main door there was a large room home to a lot of mine carts and mining equipment. At the back there seemed to be 3 small garage style rooms with big metal shutters. Maybe to lock vehicles away at night... On the right there was a metal staircase leading up the side of the building to a second level. Max followed it up...

Upstairs he found 3 office rooms, 1 medical room probably for the injured workers, and some kind of security room with tv's that were monitoring the whole quarry. Max wondered if the cameras would still be around and if they would even work. The power station was up here too as was all the power controls. They also must have repaired power tools up here. It seemed to be a rather high tech room. Max decided that the concrete building was the safest place in the quarry and much easier to protect so he was going to move Ashley into one of the offices.

He set up a bed with a few pillows and the cleanest single bed sheets he could find in there. Once he had made a comfy bed he put the teddy bear on it and carried Ashley to it. He woke Ashley up to drink some water and eat some food and then tucked him up into bed. Ashley seemed to grab hold of the teddy bear almost instantly and hugged it, falling asleep.

Max stared at his sleeping son for a while and decided to tell Ryan about what he had found and that he should set up shop in the Medical Bay. After going down and telling Ryan, he asked Sarah if she could be in charge of the food and cutlery. Sarah took it upon herself to set up a kitchen in one of the huts outside and tried to get the gas cannister and pilot light working to start cooking some food for everyone.

Max took it upon himself to try and get the power working so they had light and heating...

OOC: Thanks for talking to me strive2b, heh XD BTW just for feeling, try listening to the Terminator 3 theme while reading this. I dunno why, but it makes it feel stronger to me :/

IC: Steven helped Max with all the stuff he did, if Max wanted his help or not, it didn't matter. Steven leg hurt a bit still, but his stomach had healed up well. When they finished, Steven sat against the wall and looked up towards Max. "What are we going to do now? Well, I don't know....I'm going to see if I can get some juice flowing and get out Pip-boys charged." Steven grabbed his toolbox and walked up the stairs to the power room. He pried off a panel on the console and assessed the damage. Broken conductors and a couple frayed wires, plus a few other burned out components. Steven looked around for anything of use before going to work, and found an empty bag. It had a lot of pockets, and was bigger than his toolbox, so Steven moved his stuff into the bag. He then walked back to the panel and leaned in, starting to unbolt an old capacitor. Jessica's shoes made lots of noise coming up the steel stairs. It was slow, but there. The clunks and bangs vibrated through the console. Steven stood up and glanced over to Jessica. She stood with a concerned look on her face. "What's the matter?" She shifted uncomfortably.

"That raider....he did bad things to my parents. He tortured my dad to death and [censored] my mother. If you haden't came when you did......" Steven cut in.

"Don't worry. I wouldn't let anything happen to you. That raider deserved to die." Steven walked over to Jessica, and hugged her hard. Her arms were hugged against her chest, and Steven still kept his grip. He pulled back and looked her in the eyes. "Nothing will happen to you."

"Something already has." Jessica snapped and spun on her heels. Tears flowed from her eyes as she thumped down the stairs. Steven felt helpless. His eyes got warm and his hand started to tingle. He fell backwards and leaned against a panel. It had a sharp edge, but Steven didn't care. A single tear rolled down his cheek, and he did nothing about it. Grime flowed down in the salt water, making a trail of clean skin. He stood back up and took a breath, and went back to work.

Jessica reached the bottom of the stairs and slumped against a wall, across the room from everyone else. She started to sob, and didn't stop. She half hoped someone would come talk to her, but half hoped not. The wall shook with her, rhythmically vibrating. Jessica put her head on her arms and curled up on the wall.

Richard woke up some hours later after falling asleep. He looked outside the window and saw that the sun was rising over the horizon. Richard just said, "Wow." The sunrise was made even more wondrous just because it was the first one he'd ever seen before. Judith woke up shortly afterwards and said, "I've never seen a sunrise before, but I've read about them in books." Richard answered, "Those books didn't even begin to describe its majesty." The duo reset their Pip-Boy clocks 12 hours backwards to fix the time, and left the house shortly afterwards.

As they continued traveling, the duo came across a traveling caravan. It consisted of a merchant, a guard, and a two-headed cow laden with goods. The merchant said, "You guys look like you're straight out of the Vault. Anyway, I'm Crow, seller of clothing and armor, and you look like you're definitely in need of those." Richard said to Judith, "We should buy some new clothing, it'll make us less conspicous out here." Judth said, "I agree, let's do it." After buying some new clothes, the duo started asking Crow some questions about the Wasteland, namely about the fauna, factions, and any major settlements. They'd even gotten a map of the Capital Wasteland for free, which they scanned into their Pip-Boy's. Crow then pointed them in the direction of Megaton, the nearest settlement, and the duo started walking in that direction.

Richard was now wearing a blue hoodie zipped open over a Pre-War Parkstroller Outfit with a Shady Hat and goggles, while Judith was wearing a Wasteland Wanderer Outfit with a Stormchaser Hat and goggles. The duo still kept their Vault jumpsuits to remind them of their roots. Judith said, "I can see a building in the distance, it looks like some sort of power station, let's check it out." The duo then started walking towards it.

What seemed like days had passed since Caine had been taken prisoner by a group he'd recently learned the name of, none other then the Talon Company. They called themselves a "company", what a joke. Caine could tell they were glorified raiders in fancy armor, they just didn't violate folks before killing them. As far as he knew anyway...

They'd kept him in a dank cellar below their headquarters, feeding him in regular intervals and giving him a bucket to handle business in. These things hadn't bothered him as much as the nagging question in his mind; Why hadn't they just killed him? Surely it was a waste of resources to keep him alive if they planned on doing so, so they must've had bigger plans in mind. Caine had just finished his dinner of the day (something he could only assume was meat and Instamash potatoes), when the man he encountered with dark steel armor and various spikes sticking out at random lengths walked in the room.

"Hope you enjoyed the grub. The boss wants to meet you now, go figure why. To me you seem like a lil' pissant grunt that should've been ended back near the Temple of the Union. Whatever, not my call. Get the hell up runt.", he set with a spiteful tone.

Caine took his time rising to his feet, spitting a wad of saliva and mucous on the mains shiny black boots. He received a pistol whip to the back of the head for that show of insolence, and decided it was worth it. Either Caine was used to the confined quarters of the old vault or the facility these mercenaries were using was quite large, most likely it was a mixture of both.

They walked through corridor after corridor, the barrel of a .44 magnum pressed against the back of Caine's head all the while. Eventually they came to a big, lavish room with a red velvet rug and actual furniture. The man Caine could only assume was the "Commander" old spikey armor had referred to on several occasions was sitting in a slightly tore up lazyboy sipping red wine and reading an ancient issue of "Guns and Bullets".

He closed the magazine and set it aside, setting his wine down as well. The man was huge, at least 6'8 and built like a tank. His arms were about the size of Caine's head and covered in scars. "Alright boy, tell me your name.", he said in a deep raspy voice.

"The names Caine Deckard and I wanna know what the hell your keepin' me alive for.", he said in a irritated tone. First thing Caine wanted to do was get an advantage on the guy in terms of getting information, and he did so by showing he wasn't intimidated. The Commander shook his head and laughed a little, suddenly wrapping one massive hand around Caine's head and applying a small amount of pressure. Needless to say Caine was giving the man his apt attention.

"Good, now that your listening, I heard about what you did to my lieutenant back east toward the old Temple of the Union. Normally I'd have old Captain Dexx over there cut your balls off and watch you squirm for that, but you seem to have a survivors instinct. The fact that your still relatively young means you can dedicate your entire life to the Talon, to me. We can start your training today and turn you into a force of destruction by the end of the week. And no, that's not an exaggeration. Here at Talon Co. we use... Well, what some may refer to as "questionable" training methods that get youngbloods like yourself accustomed to combat in the wasteland double-quick."

Caine was obviously a little confused, and decided that this was some sort of ploy to make him drop his defenses. He smirked and swiped at the massive mans hand, frowning as it remained wrapped around his head like a flesh-colored stocking cap. "You must think I'm the dumbest dweller out of the bunch. Why don't you take your Talon and stick it up your ass, eh?"

The Commander replied with a backhanded slap, knocking Caine to the ground with almost pathetic ease. Caine got to his knees and wiped the blood from his lip, glaring up at the man with the eyes of a rabid dog. The Commander grinned and lifted the young man to his feet with one hand.

"Yeah kid, you got what it takes. That fire burnin' inside you is all you need to make it in the Wasteland. You just gotta learn how to turn it against those that need to be burned. I'm offering you a life you could only dream of back in that vault. A life full of riches, women and power. Not to mention plenty of punks to slaughter along the way."

Caine began to seriously consider the mans offer now, balancing the pro's and con's and finding that they invariably leaned in his favor. It had occurred to him that he didn't even know the guys name, and decided see if he'd give it up just for the asking. "I told you who I am... The hell are you supposed to be? Some kinda body builder reject?"

The Commander burst out laughing in his baritone voice, hurting Caine's ears in the process. "The name is Jabsco kid. Commander Jabsco to you.", he said as he extended one of his massive hands to seal the deal.

Caine nodded and shook his hand. He began to wonder what awaited him in the future, be it what Jabsco promised or just a slow and painful death. Time would tell...

"Max was trying to fix the power control panel when Steven walked in... "Hey kido. Good to see you are back on your feet again... Look i'm really sorry if you think i haven't been there for you, I have just been really wrapped up in our current situation and trying to stay on top of everything... Please forgive me..."

Max and Steven conversed for a while and then Max said, "I can't seem to get the power generators back on in this place. I will try again later, but right now i'm shattered and in pain. I need a break... i'm going to go lie down for a while. If you need anything, i will be in my office down the hall ok?" and with that, Max shot him a smile and limped out of the room.

He walked into his office where Ashley was asleep in the corner, lay down next to him and put his arm over him and instantly fell asleep...

While he was sleeping he had a lucid dream... He was in the quarry... there were so many people... everyone seemed happy... everything seemed more organised... As he walked through the quarry he spotted his dead wife walking towards him smiling. She opened her arms wide and looked around her and said, look how many people you have saved... you truely are a great man, and that's why I love you..." Max reached out to touch her but as he did he woke up...

He had only been sleeping for about an hour but he woke up more awake than ever. He had a vision... he had direction... he had a plan... He struggled to get up, and limped down into the quarry caught yard and then shouted, "Everyone can I have your attention please!"

Steven, Jessica, Ryan and Sarah assembled infront of him and were all enquiring along the lines of, "What? What's going on?"

Max then said in an upbeat motivational manner, "Ok, I know everything is quite a blur at the moment. We have all been stuck in a series of life changing traumatic events that I don't think any of us will ever truely recover from... but we have to make the best of a bad situation... Now I don't think it was an accident that we came across this place. I think we can turn this place around..."

"If we work together, we can clean this place up and it can be our new home. We could clear out the main area in the hq and turn it into a communal dining and relaxation area, we could turn the garages at the back with metal shutters into shops, creating local trade between towns, clean up the medical bay as we have one of the finest doctors in all of Vault One-Ten, convert the huts into living quarters, and we can search for the other Vault One-Ten dwellers and eventually organise scavenging teams and station guards at the gate... We can do this I know it..." Max said enthusiasticly...

"...and i think giving us all something to work for and keeping our minds off some horrible memories is just what we need... " What does everyone say? Are you with me?

"If so then this will be our new haven... new haven...... and that shall be it's name..." Max held his arms out either side with a smile on his face. He was looking forward to it... "Everyone..."

"Welcome to New Haven"

Ryan looked around his new med-bay...It just wasn't the same without John or Rob. He set his rifle down on the counter.

Oh well. Max is counting on me to keep these people healthy and safe. This will have to do.

Just as he finished unpacking all of his supplies on the counters, Max called them outside. his announcement was shocking. Ryan thought this place was nice, but he never considered restarting life here. But if Max said so, Ryan backed him 100 percent. Ryan returned to the med-bay and did inventory on his supplies. they only had two stimpacks left, but everything else looked good. Stimpacks weren't necessity anyways. Ryan repacked everthing back in his bag, and picked up a dirty rag and began cleaning down the place. He cleaned everything. The floor, the tables, the beds, (as best he could) everything. He came across a large metal cabinet. He opened it to find doctors fatigues. Ryan inspected the clothes, and decided that his vault 110 jumpsuit had had enough. He stripped down and pulled the white t-shirt over his head, followed by the dirty brownish pants. He slipped his bag over across his chest so that the sling crossed his chest and the bag hun on his left side. Ryan dug deeper into the cabinet. He found some Tan, ankle high hiking boots, a red and white bandanna, a pair of aviators, and even a jar of red paint. He put on the boots and laced them up. Then he reached in and grabbed the bandanna, tying it around his head, keeping his hair out of his eyes. He grabbed the aviators and put them on his head so that they weren't over his eyes, but resting on the red bandanna. Ryan looked at the red paint. He walked over to his pile of bandages and ripped a strip off. He took the paint and, using his fingers as a brush, painted a red cross on it. He let the strip of cloth dry for a minute before taking the strip and tying it on his left bicep. Ryan searched the walls for a mirror. he found parts of one still tacked to the wall, but they were covered in grime. He spent another fifteen minutes scrubbing the mirror shards back to a moderate shine. A few black spots still shone on the mirror, but it would do.
Ryan stood back and observed his new look...
fits me good

He smiled, and started putting away his varius medical supplies.

Jonathan was outside and Sheena next to him. The moon was full and bright, it was the most beautiful thing they had ever seen. They just sat there looking, staring. They ad a little fire going on in front of them, it was peaceful and quiet. Marcus was already sleeping and they had this night to themselves.

Jonathan finally spoke up to break the silence. "Its beautiful in its own way isn't it?"

"Yeah."

Jonathan took a sip from some nuka-cola next to him.

"It's going to take some time to get used to this food."

"Yeah."

"Not talking much huh?"

"Oh sorry."

"It's okay."

After a while the fire started dieing down and they decided to sleep till the next day.

"Wakie wakie." Marcus was looking down at them both.

"Gah you scared me!" Jonathan said

"Heh, We have to go."

"Where?"

"You'll see."

Jonathan shook Sheena so she could wake up. Marcus threw them their guns and gave them each a beer. Marcus quickly drank his and waited by the doorway. Jonathan finished his next and also waited for Sheena by the doorway until she finished hers.

Marcus looked out into the distance and said. "I found some gasoline in that armory yesterday, it could power an dune buggie I made."

"It still uses gasoline?"

"Yup, I found an old gasoline tank and reformatted the buggie to use it."

"Are you sure the gasoline is still good."

"Yup, checked it this an hour ago."

Jonathan and Marcus went over to where the buggie was. There was a 50. cal machine gun attached to the back.

"Do you have any bullets for that gun Marcus?"

"Yeah, only about 100 rounds though."

"Okay, good enough."

"Hey Jonathan do you know how to drive."

"I could try."

"Sure, I really don't want to drive."

"Scared?"

"No!"

"Okay sorry."

Jonathan saw this countless times in movies. He turned on the ignition and began to slowly drive forward until he came to the front of the bunker to pick Sheena up,

She looked surprised and said "Where did you get that?"

"Back there." Jonathan pointed towards the back of the bunker.

"Where di- never mind."

She got in and Jonathan marked the current location on the pip-boy and started to drive towards he last saw Max.

Steven walked down the stairs to Max. The announcement balanced itself in his mind. It would give him time to patch things with Jess, and himself. He needed to meditate, but he need power on first. Jessica walked up the stairs back. Steven looked back and saw her, showed a weak smile and went back into the panel. He heard her sit down across the room and sob a bit. He kept working, felling his eyes well up a bit too. he blinked back tears and finished soldering the last wire in place. The console panel fit nicely back where it used to sit, and the terminal whirred to life. A few lights blinked, and the only light was still Steven's LED light in his teeth. Steven walked over to the console and activated it.

RobCo Terminal
Welcome /USER!

[Initiate Power-up]

Initiate Protectron

Begin Power Cycles - Power-up first!!

Warning! Protectron not connected to server!

Steven started the power up. Things began to whir to life around him, lights flickered and beeps emanated from various pieces of equipment. Everything shut off and the terminal read Power-up complete. Please begin power cycles Steven gladly obliged. The building spurred up again and stayed on. A few hoorays and the such were heard as the building lit up like a Christmas tree. Steven sat down next to Jessica ang wrapped his arm around her. She started talking.

"Down in the vault.....that raider....he...he started kissing me when he tied me up...where he shouldn't have...he laughed at my squirming as he [censored] mom and killed dad. I.....I knew you were coming but you were too late....I don't blame you for it but....I wished you had come earlier." Steven started to cry a bit. Hot tears ran down his cheeks and he hugged her even tighter.

"I'm so sorry....I did my best....I did my best!!" He half yelled half sobbed. He completely broke down and fell over. The thing that kept him from killing Caine in the vault. What kept him from killing the raiders in cold blood. The only thing kept him honorable was his Max. His father before had helped as well, but Max had always been like a dad to him. Taught him life. Steven calmed down a bit but still sat sobbing.

Hoover smacked Nikolai in the face to snap him out of his trance. Nikolai glared at him for that, but Hoover didn't seem to care.

"Okay,we can do these introductions later, but seeing how you got to the armory without dieing, you aren't useless in a fight. Every one of those [censored]ers heard that [censored] announcement on the intercoms,so we can rule out using that exit, but maybe we can still get out of here if we use their exit. The terminal in the security office reported fires and explosions in Residential Block A at the same time the attack started. That must be where they blew in from."

Nikolai didn't like the sound of this plan, but then again he didn't have one in the first place. The two men carefully walked through the battle torn halls of the vault, encountering very few raiders along the way."I guess most of them are distracted like you said huh",remarked Nikolai.

From the way things sounded, the fight was officially over. The two heard screams echoing all over the vault. They belonged to the few remaning vault residents being [censored] and tortured without resistance. As far as they knew, they were the last of the vault residents still alive in the vault.

They were in Block A when they started seeing some real raider activity. They were almost spotted by a patrol before sneaking in the bathrooms. The two went into a stall as they heard some raiders come in.

"Ah man, these vault rats really had a sweet gig going on down here."

"I dont know, these guys were a bunch of pussies. I'm worried we could get soft like they did if we stay down here to long.",responded a woman's voice.

"Ah you say that now,but wait till you eat some of their food. Its like living in Tenpenny Tower down here! I cant believe the boss is pigging out with everyone else, and we have to stay here and look for more of those vaulties."

"Waste of time if you ask me",replied the female raider. "These people dont know how to fight or [censored]. I went through three of three of their men,and they only satisfied me when I cut them up.",she said making a disturbing laugh.

"Hey maybe I can make up for that baby,ha ha",said the man. They went into the stall next to the one Nikolai and Hoover were in,and got started.

Hoover immediately shot through the stall wal seven times. Apparently not willing to let those to get away after what he heard. Blood slowly started oozing to the floor of their stall, confirming the kill.

Nikolai took some ammo from their corpses, and most importantly,a frag grenade off the man. "This is going to come in handy.",Nikolai said with a sinister smile on his face. From there it was a quick walk to the raider tunnel.

When they got there, four radiers were guarding the exit. Hoover put out his hand for the frag grenade.

"What are the boys doing up there?",said one of the raiders. "I wish they would stop [censored] around out there, and switch shifts with us. We brought up all that purified water out there fr them, and I have yet to see one drop of it myself. I swear if they drank it all I'll cut off their ba-". He stopped after hearing the familiar sound of a grenade hitting the ground.

The explosion killed all four of the raiders at once."Come on before more come!",said Hoover. The two men ran through the tunnel ready for a firefight with whoever waited on the other side.

The light blinded them as they exitef the tunnel. No matter how hard they tried, they couldn't help but cover their eyes. At that moment,Nikolai could only think how they were at the mercy of whatever stood before them in this new world of blinding light.

Nikolai opened his eyes to an empty camp. To their luck no one was here. The camp obviously belonged to the same people who were attacking the vault, but it was compleetely empty with the exception of a lone corpse tied to a pole. The corpse was dressed like those people, with a note attached to it.

Hoover waked up to the body and took a look at the note. "Whats it say?",asked Nikolai. Hoover started reading it aloud for Nikolai.

"To our distinguished business partners. The haul was not as good as you promised. Please dont mind us taking compensation. Your friends, the slavers. P.S: You can keep this guy."

Hoover laughed a little, saying,"It looks like these guys got double-crossed. Serves them right, animals. Hoover then spat at the radier corpse, and walked into the wastes the wastes beside Nikolai. The two looked back one more time at their former home, and walked away as the last sons of Vault 110.

James was staring at the fire thinking of what had transpired. "Hell of a past couple of hours. First I was in my comfy bed, then attacked by raiders, then slavers, now I'm sitting down with slavers!" James looked at the large man. "This guy seems to friendly for a slaver.... I'll have to keep my guard up."

A few minutes passed before the large man talked. "My names Joseph."

James looked at him. "James, and this is Lisa."

"So where are you guys from?"

"Uh down south. Small settlement by the river in mountains. Pretty secluded." James tried to lie as best as possible.

"Hmm..." Joseph tried to locate the mountains to the south, but gave up. "So where you headed?"

"We actually lost some friends, we are trying to make it back to them."

"You need supplies? Joseph asked.

"Yes, that would be good." James became excited. He looked at Lisa and nodded. Joseph turned to another slaver and motioned for him to go get supplies. The slaver looked at Joseph for a couple of seconds but got up and left for them.

"We'll get you some supplies. We're headed to Paradise falls in the morning, so we'll get some more."

James pondered the name. "Paradise Falls? Sounds like a good place. Maybe we can come?"

The man with supplies walked to the fire and stood by Joseph. "It's not." Joseph threw a confused look at them. "You haven't been in the wastes for long, have you?"

"No," james said, taking the bag of supplies., looking at them. Two chinese assault rifles with 90 .556 ammo, 15 stim packs, 5 rad-away, dirty water, and a crude map of the wastes. (Just the geography with major locations)

James and Lisa stayed by the fire till the sun came up. 'Well, we better get packing up." Joseph told Lisa and James.

"Thanks for everything, Joseph, we appreciate it."

"No problem."

James and Lisa left the camp, looking at the map trying to find where his friends would be.

Kate woke up and heard an odd sound from outside the house. She hit Harley's arm to get him up.

"Harley, uh theres a noise outside" she said nervously.

They both kept quiet to try and hear the sound, and they did hear it. It was coming from outside and it was like something big being dragged along the ground. And it would have been something hard as they could hear the sound of it being dragged over small rocks and stones.

"Wait here, I'll go check and when I come back I'll knock three times before I open the door" Harley said as he stood up and walked to the door, "If someone comes in and theres no knock, shoot, even if its me".

He walked to the door and slowly pushed it open while looking out to see anything. He couldn't see anyone or anything so he went outside and closed the door, with his pistol at the ready he had a look around.

There was nobody out here, and if there was they were now long gone. He looked around some more and saw some odd tracks on the ground in the dirt. They were like, two parallel lines, and they didn't end. The parallel lines went as far as he could see, but it was probably not a smart idea to follow them.

Harley walked back to the door and put his hand on the door handle. He nearly opened it before he remember he had to knock, so he knocked three times and went inside. Kate lowered the gun and smiled, relieved that it wasn't someone else. He told her about what he saw, and they both agreed it was quite odd indeed.

Harley left the house again to have a quick look through some of the other houses, while Kate stayed inside, with the same three knock plan as before. He went through four of the many available houses, and managed to find a great amount of foodstuffs and a large backpack to carry them all back to their house.

He also found a few lighters, a pile of candles, some more cushions and sheets to make themselves a little more comfortable, some basic weapons and tools such as kitchen knives and spanners, some bowls and plates, a some other odds and ends. All of which he packed into the bag and took back to the house to set themselves up a bit better.

He knocked three times and went inside. He unloaded all the stuff he had got, and they started setting up candles around the place to get some light. Harley also had brought in an old metal gasoline drum and all the bits of wood from the doors that were boarded up and lit a fire in the drum in the corner of the lounge to get some heat into the house, and it worked great.

Soon enough the shelves had heaps of boxed and canned food on them, and the house's taps worked so they had the dirty water, the house was warm from the fire and they had blankets and pillows. They had set up quite a reasonably comfortable temporary home, until they figure out what to do next to regroup with their friends, presuming they were still alive.

Nikolai took a careful look at this new, depressing, world."Really hoped there were more plants than this up here. How else am I supposed to make new friends",he said laughing. Hoover just gave him a strange look.

"Seeing as we're not at risk of dieing for now. Lets introduce ourselves,I am Nikolai, hydroponics management." The two men shook hands with eachother as Hoover introduced himself. "I'm Hoover,my last name isn't important, and I was a waste management specialist."

"So Nikolai,do you have any idea where to go from here? Because I sure dont."

The two men looked into the blasted nothingness all around them. It was nothing like any of them had seen. They had yet to encounter anything, besides some dead trees and shrubs, and they had no way of knowing where to go from here.

"Well...",Nikolai said. "I guess we stick together, and wander around until we find something or someone. I dought anyone from the vault is sticking around here."

Suddenly the lights lit up the whole quarry. Spotlights switched on, the lights in the huts and the main building filled each room, the generators booted up and everyone could see what they were doing.

Those who were left of the group let out a cheer as things started to look up for them...

Max went upstairs and into what he now called his office, gathered what paper he could, found something to write with and started working out a plan... Things that needed to be done, things to aim for, things to look out for... etc, etc...

the problem was man power... he wished he was still with the rest of the survivors of vault one ten... Max was going to have to go look for them...

Nikolai and Hoover walked all day long through the wastes without finding much of anything. The sun was coming down and the only thing that might act as a shelter was a cluster of hills. They came across a pool of water and decided to stay there for the night.

Hoover started drinking from it immediately, but Nikolai took a sample scanning with his pip-boy. After the computer finished its anolysis, all these warning signs popped up. The water was riddled with impurities, radiation, and bacteria. Nikolai gasped at what he saw and tried to get Hoover to stop drinking it.

"Hoover,HOOVER!! Stop drinking that [censored]. Its going to kill you!",exclaimed Nikolai. But he just kept drinking it. The man was too thirsty to care.

Night soon fell, and Nikolai volunteered for the first watch. He had counted on his insomnia to keep him up for the watch, but the rigors of the day had exhausted him too much. He was tempted to take out one of the stimpacks he never used to keep going, but decided it was a good time to kick the little habit. There was no telling how precious they were going to be out here in this new world.

Rummaging through his old bag,he found half a bottle of purified water, and some vegetables. It was enough for maybe a day,but only if he kept it to himself. He wasn't sure how Hoover was going to make it. Not willing to go through that kind of thinking he took a small sip from that precious water bottle, and left the food alone for now.

Nikolai was on the verge of drifting off into sleep when he heard some distubing noises. He looked up to the site of Hoover throwing up that water he drank.

When morning came,Hoover still looked in bad shape. In time they both found the strength to keep going. It was around noon when Nikolai took out his water again. Hoover asked for some, but Nikola was a bit reluctant.

"I said give me the water dammit! I'm dieing over here!" Hoover even reached for his gun, before Nikolai handed it to him. Apparently he thought Nikolai intended to keep the water for himself, which Nikolai honestly considered for a minute. Hoover drank every last drop of the water,as Nikolai anxiously watched.

Jonathan kept on driving around, He was beginning to get used to the way the Dune Buggie worked. Marcus was scanning for any possible threats though the only thing they came up with were a few mole rats.

"Where we going?" Marcus asked

"Where I last saw all my friends."

"How long is that going to take?"

"Don't worry we're almost there."

Jonathan stopped. They were finally where they last saw Max. He didn't know in which location to go and hoped someone would send him a message. Thats when he came up with an idea.

"Marcus is there a working radio in here?"

"Yup, why?"

"Can it transmit radio signals?"

"Yup and again why?"

"I can use it to Transmit radio signals to the survivors of vault 110 though anyone can hear them lets hope that the survivors hear it first." Jonathan grabbed the radio and turned on the microphone.

"To all vault 110 survivors this is Jonathan, Meet me north west of the location of the vault, I repeat meet me north west of the location of the vault."

"Marcus set it to a continuous loop." Jonathan turned off the car and hoped they would come to him.

Ryan looked over his new Med-bay. it was relatively clean, and even had one or two mattresses for any patients he might get. While cleaning it he found a very pretty knife. The blade was close to a foot long, and had a slight curve to it. A slick blood vein ran down the middle. The hilt was twisted and curved at odd angles, obiously for looks, but was still quite effective. The handle was a simply wrapped in old leather. Ryan spun the weapon around his hand, testing its balance and weight. He smiled with satisfaction when it came to a rest in the palm of his hand once again. Ryan had always been good with a knife. His hand eye coordination was at the top of its game. He was a doctor after all.

Suddenly, the lights flickered on in the room. Ryan jumped a little, but then smiled. Power is good. Ryan slid the scabbard and blade under his belt on his right side, for easy access to his left hand. Then he went to the rooftop of his building, where he could get a better view of the surrounding area. He got up to the roof and sat down, leaning his back up against something protruding out of the roof. His eyes felt extremely heavy. Ryan tried to fight the urge, but was soon fast asleep under the wasteland sun.

The two had walked longer than they ever had in their whole lives, and things were getting tense between the two of them. They ran out of food fast, and have yet to find anything. It was starting to look like nothing was out here.

"Are you sure we're out of food Nikolai?"

"Yah,we ran out. We need to get more fast."

Later that day they ran into another pool of water. They couldn't believe what they saw there. A two-headed cow! "Jesus whats that!",exclaimed Nikolai. He had read up on pre-war animals for years, but nothing was that freaky in any of those files.

From atop a hill overlooking the pond, more of these two-headed cows started showing up. Nikolai volunteered to go up and see if they were dangerous or not. He slowly walked up to one with his gun at the ready. One of them noticed him,but didn't seem to mind his presence. Nikolai got closer and closer with the animal staying calm the whole time. Nikolai even started petting it on one of its heads.

"There there, your not such a bad girl aren't you." Nikolai started complimenting the cow in a high-pitched voice. He usually only talked to kids that way,but he figured this thing was sorta cute in its own way. As he looked over the beast,it seemed covered in soars and half-starved. All the animals looked that way,and it got Nikolai thinking. If the animals of this land were barely holding on,how were they going to survive much longer out here.'

Nikolai's train of thought was suddenly interuppted by the sound of gunshots. He went prone and checked all around, and saw Hoover had shot two of the brahmin."What the hell did you do that for! They weren't going to hurt us!"

Hoover looked at Nikolai with a suprised look. "Thats the idea, they're easy to kill, and now we have something to eat. We need to start making a fire and cook this up. Nikolai check the water with your pip-boy. If those things are drinking it,then it must be better than the last pond."

Nikolai was mad at Hoover, but knew he was right. At this point they needed food where they could get it. A boardwalk that went into the pond, seemed like the best place to scavenge for what they needed. There Nikolai found a chair and pates that seemed to have been used at some point. Apparently someone lived here before. Nikolai took a sample of the water and noticed it was slightly less polluted than the other water.

Using an old pot, some cloth to use as a strainer, and the fire Hoover started,Nikolai was able to clean the water into something more drinkable.

The two stay put for the rest of the night, resting by the fire. Things were starting to look up,and the two men finally stopped getting at eachothers throats.

Richard was listening to the radio while he and Judith were walking to the power station. While walking, Richard and Judith had discovered that there were two main radio broadcasts in the Capital Wasteland, as they learned this region was called. The first, Galaxy News Radio, was run by a DJ by the name of Three Dog and talked about life in the Wasteland and played 30s and 40s classics. The other, Enclave Radio, was run by a man named John Henry Eden, who claimed that he was the President of the United States, whose goverment had become the Enclave, and played American patriotic music. However, the duo liked the former more because Eden seemed to be talking about certain aspects of his life that would be impossible in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Richard said, "That Eden's full of [censored], his childhood sounds far too idllyic for anyone out here to have. I'm switching it to Galaxy News Radio." At the moment, the radio station was playing "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire." Judith said, "I agree, this guy's probably just some pre-recording from before the war." As the power station loomed closer in the distance, the duo started getting thirsty as the sun beat higher in the sky. Richard said, "Judith, did you bring any water?" Judith answered, "No Richard, I was with you the whole time, remember." Richard said, "Well anyway, we're here, let's just hope we don't have to end up drinking from the Potomac. According to the map, this is the MDPL-13 Power Station, let's see if we can find anything useful."

The power station consisted of a small Power Substation and a Power Plant right across from it. Judith said, "Let's check out that substation first." The duo then entered the smaller building. Inside, they found a computer terminal, first aid box, and a workbench. Richard hacked into the terminal, and a safe on the floor opened, containing a Scoped 44. Magnum, ammo, bottlecaps, and some Pre-War money. Richard said, "I guess we could sell this money since it's useless out here, or use it for kindling." Judith looked around and picked up schematics for something called a "Railway Rifle", and checked the first aid box to find some Stimpacks and a bottle of Purified Water, as well as some bandages. Richard said to Judith, "Nice scavving Judith, now we have some drinking water." He then noticed a bottle with some glowing blue liquid. Richard read on the bottle, "Nuka Cola Quantum". Upon testing the liquid, it came up as slightly radioactive on the Pip-Boy's sensors due to the presence of a radioactive isotope. Richard said, "That's strange, who'd make a purposely radioactive drink?"

Judith said, "I've heard of Nuka-Cola, it was a really popular drink before the war, but none of the history books talked about this." Richard said, "I figure that it must've been released not too long before the bombs dropped, probably within the span of the last week before the world turned ablaze if not earlier." The duo then looked up to see a clock. If there was one thing that the duo had found creepy since they'd come out of the Vault, it was the fact that every clock stopped at the same time, 10:45 am. It was a chilling reminder in the duo's eyes of what hatred could bring to the world.

Richard and Judith then left the Power Substation and walked over to the Power Plant. Richard said, "I feel a strange vibe coming from this place, let's keep our guard up." The duo then entered the power plant. Once inside, Judith started looking for supplies while Richard booted up a personal computer. The duo then heard a raspy cry and turned as they saw what looked like a zombie from a horror movie heading towards them.

Judith pulled out an Assault Rifle she'd found in a Eat'o'tronic 3000 of all places and shot at it, blowing its head off. Richard said, "What the hell was that?" Judith said, "It matches the description of those "Feral Ghouls" Three Dog was talking about." Richard heard more cries, and could see that more of them were coming. Richard yelled, "Let's get out of here!", and tried to run, but the door was stuck. Richard said, "We'll have to find another way out." More Feral Ghouls started coming, including one that seemed to glow with radiation. The duo noticed that this "Glowing One" appeared to be the leader of the Feral ghouls, as the others and concentrated their fire unto it.

The Glowing One emitted a radiation pulse, and the duo was thrown into a wall. As they tried to get up, the Ghouls tried to rip them to shreds. Richard blew away several with his Magnum, but was given a nasty gash on his arm from a Feral Ghouls slash, knocking him to the ground. The ghouls then tried to smother him. "Richard!", Judith yelled as she shot the Feral Ghouls off of him. Judith then dragged Richard to the other door, keeping the Ghouls distracted with her Assault Rifle while Richard got up, opened the grate and kept it open with a box. Richard yelled, "Come on!, and the duo rolled under the grate and ran as fast as they could from the plant.

One hour later...

"Damn that stings.", Richard hissed as Judith wrapped a bandage around his gash. Judith said jokingly, "Quit whining, Richard, it's just a scratch." After escaping the Feral Ghouls, the duo had found a small warren and were now tending to their weapons and wounds. The warren had been inhabited by wild dogs, but they were currently rotting on the road outside. Richard said, "Looks like the Wasteland hasn't killed your sense of humor, no matter how messed up your statement was." Richard then tuned into Galaxy News Radio, sat down, and started reading along with Judith while "Into Each Life" was playing, glad for the supplies they'd found, but happy to be away from the Feral Ghouls inside that place.

Hoover and Nikolai had finished off the water and meat they got for the day. Though the other brahmin Hoover killed was going to waste, they did eat well. And thanks to Nikolai boiling their water before drinking it,everything was staying down.

It was Hoover's turn to keep watch for the night. Which gave Nikolai a chance for some much needed sleep. That night,Nikolai didn't dream. He rarely ever dreamt, but when days are overly eventful he tended to dream about. Though it was probably for the best that he didn't dream. The only things his dreams could offer him that night were nightmares.

Nikolai was awoken by this bizzare hissing sound that seemed all around him. The campfire had gone out and the night was pitch black. As he peered into the darkness he saw strange figures quickly russling all around him. At the same time, something was making the unused cow carcass move.

"Hoover",he whispered."Hoover whats going on? Are you awake?"

From the darkness he heard Hoover's voice. "Be quiet,I'm going to get the fire going again. Dont make anymore noise.

Nikolai sat perfectly still, the sound of eachothers nervous breathing was all he could hear. Then the sound of Hoover squeezing the contents of a turpentine can onto the glowing embers of the campfire ushered the flash of light made by a reborn fire. The sight it illuminated was horrific. All these giant cockroaches surrounded them. They were crawling all over the brahmin carcasses, tearing bits of flesh of the bones and devouring it with their fast moving mouth parts eating like wood chippers. Several of them were only a few feet away, flapping their wings and hissing,as the fire startled them.

Nikolai screamed like he never had before,a deep fear of insects becoming overwhelming at the sight of those monstrosities. Out of fear he pulls out his 10mm and shoots wildely at the radroaches. Most of his shots miss, except for one that spews one of the roaches apart. This causes the others to charge on them, covering Nikolai as they furiously bit at him. After dropping his gun when a radroach bit his hand,Nikolai pulled out his police batton and started swinging it at them.

Hoover made the mistake of relying on his gun. When hs first clip ran out,the raroaches had jumped all over him before he could reload. He let a blood curduling scream as he was covered by them. Nikolai started wacking his own body to get his radroaches off him. Luckuliy the body armor of the vault security suit absorbed most of the blows and bites. In his panic,he toosed his police baton at the roaches, and grabbed a burning branch from the fire.

The fire terrified the roaches, and made them keep their distance from Nikolai. He noticed this and grabbed the old turpentine can off the ground, and emptied it all across the ground. When it lit up,a small wall of fire burst out before the roaches, making them scatter. The sight of them scattering, gave Nikolai a sense of incredible triumph, that he released screaming into the nights. Cursing the vermin that ran away from him.
